We are at 500ft elevation, overlooking Kailua Bay, about 5 minutes drive from the center of town as well as waterfront restaurants and stores.

There is limited bus service around the island, it is about 1 1/2 mile walk to the bus-stop. We recommend you get a rental car, as the walk from town is uphill.

There is good snorkeling at Kahalu'u beach, about 12 minutes south of us, with easy ocean access for beginners. You can rent snorkel equipment at the beach.

Maximum length of stay is five nights, since we have to use the laundry which is in the guest bathroom.

Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • Colin and Rowena were incredibly gracious hosts. The room was comfortable, quiet and just as pictured. Our last night in Hawaii was spent there and it could not have been better. We were grateful to be able to meet such nice people and would go back anytime. Breakfast on the deck overlooking the city and ocean was wonderful.

  • Colin and Rowena were great hosts. Every morning they prepared a gorgeous breakfast with fruits, bread, jam and homemade banana bread for us. They accompanied us for the breakfast and we had a nice long talk.
We also liked our room and the private very spacious bathroom. From the terrace you have a beautiful view on Kona and in the evenings you can admire sunsets that paint the sky in all shades of red, orange and purple. Colin's place is a great base for adventures on the east side of big island.

  • We had a really nice time staying with Colin and Rowena! We stayed there just for one night, but we appreciate how really helpful and kind they were. The house is beautiful with great ocean view from the balcony. The bedroom is big enough and beautifully decorated. The bed is very comfortable. They made us delicious breakfast [fresh fruits, home made jams and banana bread!] in the morning, we sat together at balcony for long time and had a really nice chat. If we ever go to Big Island again, we will definitely stay with Colin and Rowena again!

  • Colin and Rowena were very very gracious, friendly and hospitable hosts.
The room was fully furnished, and felt like a hotel room. They provided toiletries and laundry supplies as well.
Colin told us some of his life stories and gave us information about what to do and not do, all while feeding us a scrumptious breakfast. The banana bread and mango jam are to die for.

    Till we meet again,

  • Wonderful hosts! They were very accommodating, and provided us with a lovely morning breakfast on their porch. We only had a small time there with them, but they made it well worth it.

  • We were by Colin and Rowena 2 nights only, but we can say that the house is very beautiful. There is a nice bedroom with a large private bathroom. Colin (his life i an adventure) and his wife are very nice and helpful and prepared a great breakfast.
We definitely recommend their home that is in a good position to visit the west coast

  • We definitely enjoyed our stay in Colin's beautiful house. They have a gorgeous garden and patio to enjoy your meals on. The room and bathroom were very neat and comfortable. Colin and his wife were great company. We had fun conversations with them and got to enjoy a tasty breakfast of fruits, bread, and tea. Their house isn't too far away from the Kailua-Kona shopping area near the beach and the airport. I would highly recommend them if you're planning to stay in Kailua-Kona.

My wife Rowena and I moved to Kailua-Kona in 1996. We love it here in Kona, this is our last stop on our voyage through life! We have a catering business (email hidden), we coordinate and cater private parties, weddings and special events up to 70 guests. If you would like to enjoy a gourmet home-cooked dinner instead of going to a restaurant, we will be happy to accommodate you. Before moving to Kona we ran a 65ft charteryacht in the Virgin Islands, showing guests how to sail, snorkel and windsurf, providing 3 meals a day and open bar. In 1983 I sailed a 41ft sailboat from Los Angeles through the Panama Canal to the Virgin Islands, so we have lots of sea stories to share. I spent 20 years in LA in the aerospace business as well as studying law, having met my first wife Barbara In 1963 in Israel. We moved to LA from the Isle of Wight , England where my parents had a hotel, and where I had studied French and German. Our interests include international cuisine(of course!),, gardening, backyard bird watching, photography.
