Kosmic Kabin is conveniently located close to everything Big Bend has to offer. It's a very short 3 minute drive to the National Park's west entrance for hiking, birding, boating and exploring, it is
a short drive to the local gas and grocery store, more restaurants and art galleries!
Just a 5 minute drive west to the historic Ghostown for more restaurants, galleries, shopping - the Starlight Theatre and local hot spot "The Porch".
The Big Bend Ranch State Park is a 20 minute drive west for the Best Scenic River Drive and more hiking, birding, boating and miles of mountain bike trails.
The Kabin offers a private bathroom with a large step-in shower inside the house; and a kitchenette with a fridge, microwave, coffee pot, crock pot, dishes, pots & pans, basic cooking necessities and a sink. There is NO cook stove inside, but there is a gas grill outside for your cooking needs. Keeping in mind that there are several restaurants in the vicinity for a cook free vacation.
This space is suited for two, but will sleep 4 utilizing two small futons. If you have more than 4 guests, this location is shared with Kozy Kabin that has room for 4 more (8 guests total).
In order to comply with the local "Dark Sky" initiative, I ask that all lights be turned off when not in use. Big Bend is one of the darkest skies in the nation and star gazing from the hill behind the house is awesome. The community's efforts in this manner will keep us one of the darkest skies in the U.S.
I have lived in Big Bend for 40+ years and have first hand knowledge of everything Big Bend; and I will be happy to help you plan your trip..!
NOT SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN UNDER 6 YEARS OF AGE. Please understand that Desert living is different than City Life. There is no bathtub, not child-proofed, no plugged wall socket, latched cabinets, etc. There is potential for all sorts of critters that small children don't know to be afraid of: snakes, coyotes, scorpions, packs of dogs as we have no leash laws here. If you insist on reserving our space, you are taking full responsibility for the safety of your children. Be aware that the closest hospital is 80 miles one way and not well liked by locals.
Pets: Pets are better left at home. There are very few places you can take your pets in Big Bend. Not allowed in the National Park and very limited in the State Park. They are not allowed to be left behind in the Kabin. I have packs of dogs that come thru the property on a daily basis, & coyotes. I want my guests to have a relaxing quiet vacation without worrying about their furbabies. The closest vet is 80 miles one way and closed on weekends. Safety first. One of my closest friends lost her pet to a coyote in broad daylight right in front of them. This is a valid concern.
Guest access
The entire cabin is for guest use. It is located near my home and I will be available for anything that may come up.
Other things to note
-Please read the entire listing and house rules to avoid any confusion later.
-Flashlights or headlamps are a must for moving around at night.
-The Nat'l Park does not allow dogs on its trails and the State Park offers a limited area. Your pets are truly better off at home with their 2nd best loved one.
-Bring proper footwear for all your activities and spares in case you have a blowout.
-We have a small grocery store packed with great stuff, but it's a very good idea to shop on the way - especially your favorite snacks.
-If you are thinking about going to Boquillas, Mexico for lunch, I would recommend it. you will need to take cash to Boquillas. You must have a passport at this crossing. Just a Birth Certificate will not work.
