An eclectic Georgian townhouse over 3 storeys. Its vantage, on Compass Hill, means commanding views over the harbour and across to Scilly and the Bulman. There's lots of space inside and out to allow your head to breathe. It is perfect for families.
This beautiful holiday home offers luxurious and spacious self-catering accommodation in the centre of Kinsale for up to thirteen people.
This accommodation for so many guests does not mean that there is less room or comfort for more people to share; rather, the house includes all the best aspects of a comfortable holiday : There are three shower rooms, one with a bath if that’s your preference; there is ample space to relax too, with two large living rooms, both comfortably furnished and equipped; and perhaps the greatest benefit to any large group taking full advantage of the house is the additional kitchen. This ground floor kitchen has a little courtyard that is a real sun-trap on summer afternoons and which also leads, by steps, up to the main garden behind.
There are other advantages of having a large house available during your let. Maybe you are two or even three families sharing, who get on well but need some separate space. The ground floor feels very much like an apartment within the house, while not feeling separated from it. It is self-contained, and with the small courtyard off the kitchen, even the garden is at the same level.
The house is conveniently located only five minute's walk from the town centre. A small beach at Castlepark is ten minute's drive away. There is another, much larger, beach at Garrettstown (12.5 km away). Kinsale is famous for its gourmet restaurants, traditional music in its pubs and its many historic sites. Important heritage sites include Charles Fort and the Old Court House and Museum. The coastline boasts stunning rock formations, making this a hotspot for rock enthusiasts and photographers too.
Compass Hill House is the ideal base for a large group or families from where to explore this part of county Cork. There are lots of activities for all to be entertained - from golf at the world famous Old Head Golf Club to surfing, sailing, fishing and other outdoor activities. If you have time, you can put your feet up; relax and watch the to-ing and fro-ing of the harbour.
Compass Hill House is owned by an Artist and a Geologist. Their respective interests and careers are reflected throughout the house; from the sea shells found on exotic shores around the world, to the eclectic collection of art works. We hope that you will find this house a wonderful adventure in itself.
If a door or a cupboard cannot be opened easily, it is not intended that you do so; These spaces are private or are storage for the housekeeper. Please respect them.
Interaction with guests
You will be sent key instructions and a house manual via email a week before your arrival. We like to know that our guests have received them, so please reply to that email.
Other than that, you are at liberty to enjoy self catering in such a spacious house.
We are available on the phone for urgent situations.
Other things to note
This is an OLD house; 230+ years old in fact. If you visit in the cooler months of the year, be prepared to dress according to the season. There are night storage heaters; portable, on-demand radiators; and two stoves to make the house warm.
All that is required is respect - anything less is not enough.
I am an artist living and working between Dublin and Italy. I make original print (if this needs explaining, visit my website, a quick search on my name will get it for you).
This house in Kinsale town is a fabulous Georgian period three storey townhouse that is our escape from the Dublin.
