A very clean flat with all mod cons. We had a lovely welcome from Andrea's sister as Andrea was away on business. We were welcomed with a bottle of wine which was a nice touch. The rear balcony was great for breakfast - absolutely fabulous view of the coast. We slept in the rear bedroom so the noise of the road was not too much of an issue although we slept with earplugs in. Great location for exploring Etna.
When we entered the apartment we were very disappointed about the fact that the front door is literally one step away from a very busy road with cars and even trucks passing by every 10 seconds.
However, the traffic stops after 22:00 pm and if I look back to the three days of our stay, we have slept quite well in the double room at the back of the house. Next to that, Andrea was a very friendly and great host.
Conclusion, don't go here if you like to enjoy the apartment during the day. Great stay if you only use it for sleeping.
What a fantastic stay we had at Villinei dei Kiwi! Andrea is the best host ever! We got picked up from the bus terminal in Taormina and when we arrived at Villa Kiwi we were immediately ushered in to join him and his friends for some sciacciata and Passito de Panteleria (YUM!) at the apartment downstairs. Andrea really went out of his way to give us tips and pointers on the best places to sight see, restaurants, pasticcerias and gelaterias to test out and even took us out on a day trip to Siracusa and Ortigia, Noto, Modica, Ragusa Iblia, and Cala Mosca beach.
The villa itself is very roomy and 6 people could stay there comfortably, and it's nice and airy, with gorgeous views of the Etna and the ocean.
I am kind of annoyed at the previous 2 comments which state that it's right on the road and thus noisy: did the people who left these comments travel around at all? Show me a house in Sicily that's not right on the road. And in any case, around 10:30-11 at night everything quiets down completely, unlike if you were to stay in Taormina or Giardini-Naxos with thumping music and screaming people in the streets all night.
I am very glad we chose the Kiwi Cottage: close to Taormina and Isola Bella, but far enough to be away from the tourist trap that those can be and closer to some true jewels such as Linguaglossa, Riposto, Castiglioni di Sicilia, the Alcantara Gorge and so much more. And new friends to boot!
Thank you Andrea for helping us make our Sicily vacation such a success.
Very noisy - we booked 3 nights and left right after the first.
The apartment is just beside the road (40cm) - the main room and one of the bedrooms are on the road facing side, cars are passing every 2-5 seconds.
Très bel appartement avec une belle vue sur la mer. Malheureusement, situé le long de la route d'accès à l'Etna, il est bruyant.
About the Host, Andrea
My name is Andrea, I'm 30 years old and I live in Varese, near Milan.
Seven years ago I fell in love with Sicily and decided to buy a cottage near Taormina.
I would be very excited to share my place with people who want to discover this marvelous island, that is full of art, archeology, sea and sun, for almost 365 day per year.
I'd be really glad to suggest you how to plan your holiday in Taormina and in the rest of Sicily
