The best ! Quiet and friendly ! But close to a lot like great snorkeling and hiking trail.
Best to have a rental car. There is a public bus.
Other Things to Note
Common kitchen. Snorkel stuff (limited).
No Smoking in rooms or near houses. Go to parking area. No noice after 9. Common kitchen closes at 9. Please be considerate. Have fun !
We enjoyed the privacy of the boat and its ocean view. Only drawback is very low water pressure (OK for washing thin hair, but impossible for thick hair) and the accommodation could be cleaner. Breakfast was more than adequate. Christian is very knowledgeable and helpful. The rental car rate he got us beat any other I could find. He also got us a good deal on a half-day fishing trip, which he joined. The Rainbow Plantation is within easy hiking distance of Captain Cook monument, which has great snorkling. You can even swim with dolphins there! We had a wonderful stay.
What a lovely experience!
The Jungle Boat was great fun & the bed was so comfortable.
Christian is a gracious host & his banana pancakes are the best.
Everything was just as posted & we'll certainly stay here again if we get back to the Big Island.
The rainbow plantation was a magnificant place to stay on Big Island. Christian hosted us very well. If something has to be organized like the manta ray snorkling event he did it for us. The breakfast was great - cereals, fresh bread, jam, fresh fruits like mangos, passionfruit, avocados, bananas etc from the own garden. We really enjoy the self picking of the fruits. It was a quite area like in the jungle. Only the chickens make some noices in the morning but this was for us no big deal. The condo has a large bed, a bathroom and a small fridge. There is an open kitchen in the "jungle" which need some cleaning. Nevertheless we would stay again at this place.
Christian was very nice and knowledgable; more than happy to answer any question about the island. Even though I arrived late to the B&B, Christian quickly showed me the way and let me settled into the room. The room was awesome- a boat that has been remodeled into a suite with bathroom and living area. This is definitely a great place to stay!
Lovely place, gracious host. Excellent, very comfortable two night stay in the "Jungle Queen," a real boat now high and dry on a lush mountain slope with a sunset view from the back deck all the way down to the ocean.
Christian and his family live in the middle of the paradise. The rooms are very nice and clean next to the jungle with a large view all over the ocean. Breakfast was delicious. He made the banana pancakes with own grown bananas out of the yard next to the house where he lives. Eggs from the chickens around and fresh brewed coffee, also own bread and a lot of fruits from his yard. He knows everything of the island. We had just two full days for sightseeing but with his support we saw 8 of the 10 have to see in big island in just two days. I will stay here again when I will come back to Big Island. Thanks a lot for everything!
The Rainbow Plantation is a lovely hideaway tucked in a mountainside of Captain Cook. The lush grounds are rich with beautiful plants, colorful flowers, chickens and Romeo, the peacock. Also the Hawaiian style outdoor communal kitchen has a rustic charm. Christian's place is secluded yet centrally located enough that moving around The Big Island was simple. Christian and his team are friendly and very accommodating. Christian offers a lot of good tips and connections for seeing and experiencing the sights and attractions. Next time I'm on The Big Island I will be back at The Rainbow Plantation.
