Some info has been automatically translated.
Nestled into the Sellicks foothills as they meet the ocean, amongst our organic/biodynamic Shiraz vineyard and almond grove, the Old Chaff Mill Retreat dates back to the mid-nineteenth century, when it provided grains and chaff to bullock teams as they hauled their mighty loads across the picturesque countryside. Gutted by fire a century ago, the building is now reborn: a unique luxury accommodation experience, with a spectacular, architecturally-designed fitout celebrating its rich past.

The space
Perfect for that special occasion- babymoon, anniversary, proposal, elopement, or just to completely unwind; the building consists of two completely private, self-contained, double-storey luxury suites: “The Millery”, and “The Granary”. Both display rare historic artefacts, have super-comfortable king beds, fully equipped kitchens with European appliances, handcrafted Japanese artisan knives, complementary NBN wifi, smart TVs, and bathrooms complete with soaking tub for two and double rain-head showers. Electric vehicle chargers are in each suite’s private car park. Fluffy bathrobes, slippers and all linen are provided. Everything from towels to cutlery is the highest quality. Come and pamper yourself!

This listing is for “The Millery”, which is approx 120 m2. Originally where grain was processed into grains and husks (the "chaff" that gives the Chaff Mill its name), it features a spectacular repurposed Winnower, now a 2-metre chandelier. As well as a toasty-warm combustion heater, it has two generous seating areas, and a gorgeous, reconditioned outdoor clawfoot bath, that opens to a private garden via 200-year-old solid teak Indian doors. Up to two additional guests can stay in a super-comfortable fold-out queen sofa bed, located in the downstairs living space.

Relax into your plush armchairs and lose yourself in views of rolling vineyards with a nibble plate of local produce and complimentary bottle of estate-grown biodynamic Shiraz. Or soak in your private outdoor bath under the stars, before tumbling into bed for a night of blissful, peaceful sleep in complete, country silence, then enjoy a delicious Continental breakfast (ingredients provided) the next morning. For a relaxed morning in, full English breakfast provisions for two can also be provided, consisting of organic, free range farm eggs from our own chooks, gorgeous local smoked bacon, tomatoes, mushrooms and croissants, for $30. All the above can be adjusted for dietary requirements. Please contact us direct if this is of interest.

Special babymoon packages are also available, with pregnancy-friendly catering and non-alcoholic wine/champagne.

We also have an onsite day spa: “Hidden Beauty”, housed in the property’s century-old reconditioned former dairy, which you can find in your search engine under “Hidden Beauty Sellicks”. Enquire about special packages such as a 75 minute relaxation massage, and wonderfully relaxing babymoon pamper treatments.

If you would like to know more about "The Granary" please go it its individual AirBnB listing: "The Old Chaff Mill Retreat-The Granary"

We can’t provide links here, but you can also see video walkthroughs of each suite and watch a 4 minute story on the Chaff Mill that aired on channel 7's "SA Weekender" show if you go to our website, discoverable via your search engine.

Guest access
Each suite is separated by lockable, soundproof double fire doors for complete privacy, which can be opened up for friends to have the run of the whole building. If that's what you'd like, please go to the listing for “The Granary” and book that too.

Other things to note
Please be aware South Australian vineyards are phylloxera-free. Phylloxera is a tiny insect that destroys vines from the roots up, and with no known treatment, is responsible for destroying some of Europe’s great vineyards. If you are arriving from interstate, especially from NSW or Victoria, please make sure your car tyres and shoes have been throughly cleaned. Please avoid wandering around the vineyard unaccompanied- we would be more than happy to give you a tour if you like.

In the event of any COVID-related travel restrictions, your booking will be fully-refunded.

Please note this is a former industrial building with exposed metal surfaces and staircases. It is not suitable for children and does not cater to people with special physical needs.
