Beautifly Renovated Historic House in the heart of Oak Bluffs. Enjoy the best of Martha's Vineyard. Walk to nearby restaurants, shops, parks & more. Stroll 2 blocks to the beach. Each floor aptmt can be rented separately.

The space

This lovely, in-town, impeccably renovated 1800's historic Oak Bluffs cottage is adored by all who stay here. With landscaped gardens, a beautiful patio with a HOT TUB, outdoor shower, and an outdoor designer Rais FIREPLACE, ruby glass windows and original architectural details, the house is truly an oasis in the heart of Oak Bluffs.

This beautiful historic house, which can be rented as one house or as two individual apartments, (see other airbnb listings for the single floor apartments) is nestled between picturesque State Beach, Oaks Bluffs' finest restaurants and bars, the Campgrounds Gingerbread houses, Oak Bluffs Harbor with its magnificent sunsets and waterfront restaurants and nightlife, and the shops, movie theaters, pubs and the live local music of Circuit Ave.

The breathtaking bike path from Oak Bluffs to Edgartown, with water on both sides, begins just a few blocks from the house, and running and walking paths through nature trails are a short jog away.

The downstairs apartment has a large and sunlit gourmet kitchen with skylights, a viking stove, designer refrigerator and super quiet Miele dishwasher, a lovely living room with a Crate and Barrel pull out king bed, french windows and doors, antique furniture, and a small but zen queen bedroom that opens out to the gardens and patio. The upstairs has a sunlit living room with beautiful breezes through many new windows flanking both sides, a kitchenette, full bath, and a lovely and spacious sunlit queen bedroom with meditation nook and skylight.

Surrounded by all the vibrant and colorful life of Oak Bluffs in every direction, there is never a need to commute into town for the islands most popular events. The August Fireworks, Illumination night, concerts on the park are all around the corner. And while parking is available to the downstairs or to the whole house, cars are unnecessary to many vacationers in this location.

Other things to note

The tale of a perfect little house

I fell in love with this house the minute I saw it. It took me a full winter to be able to purchase the house because the owner did not want to disappoint another person who'd looked at the house previously, even though there was no contract of any kind. She risked losing the sale to do this, but felt it was only right to try to find this person who was by then out of the country and difficult to track down. She knew how much I loved the house, and after several long months she called to say it was mine if I still wanted it, and I could take a few days to let her know. I told her I didn't even need a few minutes. No other house that I had seen captured my heart as this one had.

It took great amounts of work to prep this house to be my massage center, as it would be for some years before I could make it my home. One day, at my other massage center in Vineyard Haven, I interviewed a lovely massage therapist from Louisiana. I had no idea that she had a Vineyard connection, but I instantly knew she was special. I hired her on the spot and sent her here to do a massage on a client who had just come in. Twenty minutes passed, and the phone rang. “You are not going to believe this, Sharon, but this is the house my grandmother grew up in."

Oma (grandmother in German), came right over the next day from West Tisbury, where she then summered, brought me this photo of her parents and this house as it was in 1908, and gave me a tour of the house, telling me where all the original details used to be. Oma was beautiful, and her granddaughter is beautiful, as was the previous owner. I just kept feeling that it was no wonder that it feels so special in here. Since that time, my friends, family and guests have only added to that beautiful feeling. Time and time again, people walk in and comment on the energy of the home. I feel it deeply myself.

To top off all of this wonder, the last bit of amazement for me was the dog in the photo - a dog with a half black and half white face, split down the middle. On the other side of the couch, you can see the photo of my dog, Haffa, at the time. A dog with a half black and half white face, split down the middle, almost 100 years later.

Life is magical, mysterious and beyond imagination.

There are two real bedrooms with excellent queen beds, one tempurpedic, one traditional top-of-the-line firm with pillowtop. Additionally there are two living rooms with 2 brand new high-end sofabeds, and there is a full-height queen airbed that can be set up if needed.

In general, pups are more than welcome. I love dogs and try to do my part so that they can be with their families on vacation.

I only ask a few considerations if you would like to bring your dog, and please do let me know if any of these could be an issue. It is much better to discuss any of this ahead of time if it could be a concern. There is a one-time pet fee of $80/pet.

I ask that all dogs be leash walked, or that IF they are let out in the fenced in yard, that the yard is not dug up and that any and all messes are cleaned up. I can't ask that of the cleaning crew, and I wouldn't want the next guests to step in anything. I also ask that dogs not get on the furniture, that they are not left home alone barking - which would disturb the other guests - and that they of course not be allowed to cause any damage.

For flea/tick control, please confirm that your pet is using a total body product. If not, please administer a single dose of Capstar within at least 12 hrs of arrival.

If your dog has the unfortunate accident of being sprayed by a skunk, you will need to make OTHER arrangements for accommodations for him/her until your pup is completely free of skunk smell (boarding, grooming kennel, friend, car, etc.) Please do not bring a skunked pup into the house under any circumstances as you would be responsible for all damages.

With these provisions, I can know that the house and the other guests are taken care of. Other than that, puppy love just adds to the lovely energy of the home. So far, we have had wonderful experiences with dogs, and we hope that yours can join you too!

Best wishes,
Sharon Strimling

My husband and I came to Martha's Vineyard on our "mini-moon" for a few days to relax after the craziness of planning and celebrating a wedding. What a treat Sharon's house is. I am SOO happy we found her and her lovely home. It made the three days we spent on the Island even better and we truly can't wait to come back and wouldn't dream of staying anywhere else. The location of the home is absolutely perfect. Right in the thick of oak bluffs but still serene and peaceful and quiet, while only minutes away walking from all the greatest restaurants and shops. Don't even get me started on how amazing and comfortable the beds were! Everything about this house and how responsive Sharon was, was amazing. Can't wait to come back!!!!

We rented the entire house for a long weekend and had a fabulous time. It's a beautiful house, within 1-3 blocks walking distance to the beach, the ferry, and everything in town. We also made good use of the grill and hot tub! Sharon was also very helpful and hospitable. Thanks for a lovely visit!

This is a heart house with amazing craftsmanship deep to the bones of the space. Sharon has poured her heart and soul into this place over 10 years, and is now renting out the space for others to experience. The quality and feeling of the space is amazingly restful. The space is BEAUTIFUL, and the main living room feels like a ship. My boyfriend is an engineer by trade, and a meticulous craftsman in all else, and he loved the floors, walls, beams, space, Viking stove, fridge, cabinets -- everything done to great and fine detail. We rented this space as our family was staying nearby -- 16 of them in one house -- and we wanted our own retreat. It was perfect. I loved the front gate wit the roses, the two-person hot tub, the outdoor shower, and the courtyard where we cracked crab. And Sharon herself is an amazing person, who supplied us with all the guidance and resources for an amazing trip. Perfect. This is also a place I would feel quite peaceful in renting alone as a solo woman traveler (I do a fair bit of travel). It just feels safe and lovely;restorative.

About me: I have lived on Martha's Vineyard full time for 20 years now, but vacationed there as a child. Martha's Vineyard has always been a very special place to me, and I love it dearly. I found this home about 12 years ago and fell in love with it immediately. A massage the…
