  • Rahul was a lovely host and the room was clean and airy as was the shared bathroom. The fridge in the room was nice and there was plenty of closet space.

  • Rahul and his wife are lovely to chat with. Their spacious apartment is super centrally located and very convenient to three subway lines. Rahul and his wife provided cereal, toast, coffee, tea, and milk. Fantastic location for exploring all over and especially Upper West Side.

  • The neighborhood is terrific -- one block from Columbia campus, a few steps to Morningside Park. There were a few problems as I arrived (refrigerator wouldn't close, light bulb out, etc.) but Rahul immediately fixed everything with great energy. I appreciated very much the combination of privacy/quiet, and welcoming spirit. I appreciated that Rahul made the kitchen available including tea and coffee. An extra enrichment was the very Indian environment of the household. All in all a very positive experience.

  • Rahul and his wife were the best hosts! They welcomed me upon my arrival and made every attempt to ensure that I was comfortable and wanted for nothing.

  • Although I meet Mr. Bedi only one day, he was extremely helpful.
His apartment is a very warm place to stay and it is extremely well located.

  • For someone visiting Columbia University, this is as close to the university as it can get. Just 2 min walk from the main gate. Very convenient location. Nice hosts. Although the room is small for 2 people. Its meant either for couples or single person.

  • Couldn´t be closer to Columbia uni and also it couldn´t be a better basis to explore New York.
I enjoyed it very much to stay at Sushamand and Rahuls place and will definitely come again. Very lovely hosts. 5 Stars.

  • I stayed Bedi's place for a week. It's an amazing experience. The location is perfect to catch a subway and taxis. I enjoyed to walk around the beautiful collage town. There is a little refrigerator, a perfect closet, a drawer and a computer desk, They are very useful for visitors. I had to attend my son's performance. (He is an opera singer/student) I could prepare for attending with a fancy dress in this room.
Mrs. and Mr.Bedi are very friendly and kind. I enjoyed to talk with Mr.Bedi who has a sense of humor and Mrs.Bedi who is interested in other cultures. If you are a just sightseeing traveler or looking for a very fancy bed, I can tell you that you can go down to the midtown. But if you are interested in real NY life, there is! I truly recommend this place.

  • Rahul and his wife were very kind and hospitable hosts. The area is fantastic, the house is old and beautiful, and the apartment was decorated with wonderful carpets and animal skins. Thanks.

  • Pros and Cons for this accommodation. The pros are: pleasant non-intrusive hosts, close to Columbia campus, secure building with elevator, safe neighbourhood, fair sized room with fridge, TV and air conditioner. Apartment is at back of building and away from street noise.
Cons are: old building with old plumbing and frightening wiring! Bed is most uncomfortable - it's a flattened sofa bed topped by a thin mattress which does not disguise the ridge running down the middle. The air con is poorly fitted allowing drafts directly onto the bed. The only table is a computer station and only seating a wheeled typist chair. Not a kitchen to cook in - although I had free access to kettle and microwave. Subway and shops are on Broadway - a 7 minute walk through Columbia campus. It's a fair traipse back if you forget something.
This place is best for students or relatives visiting students for a few days. Those looking for a base to sight see NY for more than a few days would probably be better off paying a little more and getting accommodation nearer downtown - with a proper bed!

Tip: The best shops on Broadway start around 113th Street - so walk down a little. And if you get a chance, check out Riverside Church opposite Grant's Memorial - it's amazing and not well known.
