About this listing
Big 1 bedroom with hardwood floors in a 2 bedroom, 1 bath apt in the historic Clarksville neighborhood. Located near the cities biggest outdoor art park called the Hope Outdoor gallery and is in within walking/biking distance of everything downtown.
The downstairs bedroom, my old bedroom. Everything you see here is now in the upstairs room with hardwood floors.
I have 1 room for rent in a 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom apartment in the Clarksville neighborhood in Austin, TX. It is .8 miles from the Texas State Capitol building and 4 blocks from 6th st and Lamar st (at which intersection you will find the 80,000-square-foot Whole Foods flagship store). A perfect downtown location to access ACL and SXSW with the quickness. The amazing Hope Outdoor Gallery is a stones throw away where artists paint artwork on "walls" (a defunct building foundation) to promote art in the community. There is also a beautiful Victorian castle (built in 1870 and the former Texas military institute) at the top of these walls. On top of the walls of art is one of the best views of the Austin skyline.
There are air conditioning units in each room, Wi-Fi and plenty of street parking available (there is currently an off street parking spot you can have too). My place has full kitchen, living room area with a loft area above it. Room is private, has a queen sized bed with memory foam topper, is furnished and the apt has a washer and dryer as well. Walking/biking distance to almost anything in downtown Austin. There are city bike rental kiosks nearby. The house the apartment is in is quite old (built in 1928) and has character which I love. I mention the house's age and character because if you are looking to rent a new apartment with perfect 90 degree angles this isn't the place for you (my room is fine but the living room is a bit sloped due to foundation). A few reviews say "great location/place if you don't need amenities" which means: there is every amenity you could name other than a TV/entertainment center so what is meant is "great place if you aren't coming to Austin to watch cable television".
The apartment is located in the historic Clarksville area which includes a pharmacy, an old style diner fully equipped with a soda fountain (Nau's), Fresh Plus grocery Coop, Bistro, Cafe Medici, Cafe Zocalo and Galaxy. One block from bus lines, 24 hour gas stations, Castle Hill Fitness gym, House Park Bar-B-Q (70 years old), Thundercloud Subs, Bacon and other restaurants too (but none with as cool a name as Bacon).
It is extremely quiet here as it is set away from the street. In addition to my room there is a loft space available up the stairs in the living room (see photos) for up to 2 people to sleep comfortably. Available only if you were to chose to rent both mine and my roommate's room which would be about double the price listed for the whole apt. The loft is small but I have had friends stay up there for a week at a time and they have found it very comfortable, just not super private.
Upstairs room with hardwood floors and closet. It is the biggest room in the house. Living room and kitchen area as well as laundry and bathroom. The backyard is open to sit on the steps or use it to get to the Hope Outdoor Gallery through the backyard.
Interaction with Guests
I enjoy being a proper host and offer Austin advice and knowledge to anyone staying here. Some guests want to interact, which I am happy to do, and some guest like to go it alone. I am not around much during the day and evening when I rent the apartment but I often sleep in the loft area above the living room when renting the apartment since it is an unused room and great for sleeping just not living in.
Historic, artistic, great landscaping, flora and fauna. Cafes and grocery stores are very close by. Bus stops, car2go and bike rentals are also in the neighborhood for transportation.
definitely easy regardless of what mode of transportation you are using.
Other Things to Note
Please do not lock the top deadbolt on the entry door as there is no key or keyhole for it and it will lock my roommate out. feel free to lock the bottom deadbolt but rest assured also that this is a very safe neighborhood.
Respect out property and especially my fully furnished room. Though I don't mind you having guests, I would like that kept to a minimum so as not to let the friend of a friend over that then cases my house, ect. So please only have people over you know well and trust. Feel free to treat the place like your home, all i ask is that you clean up when you make a mess.
Got the job done nicely for me while in Austin for a few days. I just need a place to land at night and a shower Cool historic area of Austin.
Tyler was super flexible and responsive in accommodating our stay. The apartment's location is great (right by the graffiti park!) and close to downtown Austin.
Fantastic host and communication!
I found the room to be the perfect no frills arrangement in a great location. If you really just need a place to crash and leave your stuff while you go out and explore this awesome city, this spot is ideal for you. Not only is it right next door to the very cool Hope Outdoor Gallery (public graffiti exhibit) it is also walking distance from all the fun things 6th Street downtown ATX has to offer. It was incredible easy to get around the DT area with this room as the starting spot.
Though I never met Tyler, he was also quick to respond to my questions and make sure that I had what I needed for my stay. Very pleased with my experience here.
I stayed at Tyler's home for SXSW. The bedroom was clean and spacious, and the house itself was located in a pretty good area, right next to the Graffiti Park at Castle Hills. It was about a 20 minute walk from all the chaos around 6th/I-35 (or about a $10-15 Lyft ride back at the end of the night), and 5-minute walk to the Waterloo Records and the big flagship Whole Foods (both essential stops for me during SXSW). Tyler was not around, but he was easy to get a hold of by phone/e-mail, and his roommate Chris was a good and amiable host. I would highly recommend this place!
Tyler welcomed me to his home on short notice and it was as advertised. He gave me some good places to eat and left me to myself. The location was great! it was very close to everything that I wanted to do on west 6th and also close to my office. I would definitely stay again.
Tyler wasn't here during our stay but it was easy to email him. The location was great (Whole food and 24 Dinner). However I don't recommend this place if you are looking for a clean and warm (during winter) place to stay, and the minimum of furnitures (no chair in the bedroom to put our towels/cloths). The price seems too high for what it is.
I was backpacking in Europe during this guest's visit and I believe my roommate was away as well. Though it was understood that I was away, I would have happily offered where to locate these things elsewhere in the house had she contacted me with questions. My guess is my roommate had taken the 2 chairs from the room for guests he had over and failed to put them back. It's too bad for both of us as I usually have the chance to prep the room for guests and leave an extra space heater out for them in winter. The room is basic, clean and does always have a heater and extra blankets available for the 6 weeks that Austin is actually cold each year.
