Summer in the Cruz, steps from the beach!

1905 Beach House adjacent to all things Santa Cruz! The Beach Boardwalk is a stone's throw away as is the Mike Fox Skate Park, The BMX course, Boardwalk Bowling, Arcades, Laser Tag and the Big Dipper!
We are a ten minute walk from Pacific Avenue and more adult pursuits or jump on your bike and cruise the river and the ride is 3 minutes! Power walk up East Sea Cliff Drive to Betty's Burgers or the Seabright Brewery. Walk in a different direction and in a half mile you will get to my favorite lunch/breakfast destination, THE BUTTERY. UCSC has a local bus that cruises past the house if you are headed that way or take your car and see the local sights from the Roaring Camp Railroad to ziplining through the Redwood Forest.
Our house has wood floors so a little sand following you home from the beach is not a problem. We have an outside surf shower to clean off the wetsuit before peeling it off. Lock your board and bikes in the basement next to the driveway that parks 3 cars, no need to pay for parking.
She's a 3 bedroom, one bathroom house. There are four full-size beds and one Queen and a twin.(kid sized). They are all dressed with 100% cotton sheets so you can sleep well, following long days at the beach! The kitchen has service for 8 and includes all basic kitchen ammenties and tools, blender, microwave and a gas range with five burners. This is not the house for fancy dinner parties but the house to bring your family and friends and enjoy all that Santa Cruz has to offer!
We have Comcast Wi-Fi and one centrally located TV/DVD player with a selection of family friendly movies but between the free Friday night concerts at the beach or live music downtown, it's hard to imagine watching it?
This is a summer rental only and summer 2014 looks to be starting around June 20th and wrapping up around the middle of September. Otherwise our house is home to UCSC students.
The $10 surcharge after four people is simply to cover water usuage. As with most of California, Santa Cruz rations water. We wash our linens, beach towels and bath towels onsite and the $10 covers the difference between what we use at a regular rate and what we use at a higher rate because we are over our allotment. If your party number changes, simply leave the difference on the dining room table, it has worked well for us on the honor system.
***NEW FOR SUMMER 2014***If you are hosting a family re-union, party, in town for a wedding I would encourage you to try and also book the rear apartment, Called the SURF SHACK. It not only gives you an extra bedroom(queen) 2 cots for kids or spry 20 somethings but the coveted EXTRA bathroom and two additional parking spaces.-if you let me know you are interested in booking both when you put your reservation request in I will give you a deal on the SURF SHACK.
SUMMER of 2015:The City of Santa Cruz levies a 11% tax for the privilege of occupying a room or rooms or other living space in a hotel, inn, tourist home or house, motel or other lodging wherein living accommodations for periods less than thirty days are customarily offered for hire. The tax is paid by the occupant and collected by the operator. The operator then remits the tax to the city. You will be given a receipt for this tax at the time of your stay. It will add approximately $15.95 a night to your stay, to offset this my prices will not increase from their 2014.
In addition to the house: Locked storage for bikes and surfboards, washer and dryer. High speed internet/wifi/TV/DVD player and BBQ.
Interaction with Guests
I don't live in Santa Cruz but closer to SF. Most of our transactions are done electronically. I will be in town the day of your arrival and probably your departure as well. I have missed some guests because they arrive late and depart early but we have a system that allows you to check in anytime after 4pm and depart anytime before noon. You also have a cell number for me which is on and with me 24/7 during the summer. I like my guests to enjoy all Santa Cruz has to offer and will leave you suggestions in addition to my electronic guidebook.
We are in Beach flats and two blocks from one of the last Boardwalk Amusement parks that I think is ranked #1 in the country? The summer is bustling with people, there is a lot to do within a few blocks of the house! Surfing at Cowell's Beach, riding the roller coaster, splashing in the surf, bowling, laser tag, skateboard park, walk ten minutes in the other direction and there is downtown and Pacific avenue, full of places to eat, shop or catch a movie!
The bus to UC is across the street. It is a ten minute walk to the main bus termil in Santa Cruz that runs buses from all over the Bay Area and to SJ Intl. Airport.
No Smoking in the house. If your furry friend travels with you please keep them off the furniture and bring a kennel or bed for them to sleep in, we expect our pet owners to clean up after their pet. We ask you to lock the basement and yard as it's shared with our permanent tenants onsite. We want you to have fun, but we don't expect to see our house in a Girls Gone Wild Video?

En revanche, lorsque nous avons dû annuler notre séjour la veille de notre arrivée du fait du décès d'un très proche parent, et malgré plusieurs tentatives pour joindre Air B&B et notre hôte afin des les informer de notre situation ... silence radio ... aucun n'a répondu à nos emails ou SMS et l'intégralité du coût du séjour nous a été débité, prestations annexes comprises (ménage ...).
En synthèse, une entreprise Air B&B complètement décalée d'un point de vue déontologique et éthique ... mais performante pour conserver le cash des Clients.
Nathalie-I'm so sorry about your trip being cancelled. Unfortunately NOTHING came through via airbnb.com texting, here on the website, my private line or my cell phone, all options you are given as a confirmed guest? I was out of town during your trip, my kids started back to school on August 20th so my cleaning crew simply left me a message at the end of your "stay" that the house was clean and ready for the next guest and that you had left it in "great shape"-I had sent you the welcome letter in advance because I thought Google translate would be helpful, my french is rusty but I could have managed a conversation by phone. You were slated to stay on August 20th and today, September 10th is the first time I was notified that there was any problem with your reservation? Had you noticed me I could have approved a cancellation and more than likely rented out my house for part of your stay which would have offset any costs to you...Again, I'm really sorry.
Sydney is an awesome host. There is a lot of communication prior to arriving. She is very easy to get a hold of. She is wonderful leaving us notes on local places to go eat and play. She left us wine in the fridge too. There is a lot of items in pantry for one to use to cook.
The home is decorated so cute. We also rented the back house which gave us extra space and parking this year. The home is in a prime location, maybe a block from the beach and boardwalk which allowed us to save on parking $$ and walk home for lunch and save $ that way too. Thanks Sydney & Roger too!

Such a nice place, I almost don't want to write a review so I know it be so overbooked.
Firstly, this is a really nice house that is clean and well kept. Next, Sydney is super nice and actually keeps the kitchen stocked with stuff you need. I'm not just talking about salt and pepper, but she has spices, oil, vinegar and lots of handy cooking things. Then, there are nice beach things we can use like towels (super soft), umbrellas, body boards, beach umbrellas and even toys.
I knew what I was getting into booking in the neighborhood by the Santa Cruz boardwalk. There is heavy traffic on the street and it's not the most "up-kept" neighborhood, but it is 1 block from the beach so it's WORTH it.
Al in all, we had a great time and we felt like we were in a home rather than just someone's house trying to get some extra money. Well done.

About the Host, Sydney
I was lucky enough to have lived in France for a few years and traveled extensively throughout Europe. Many of my adventures were with three small children in tow so I'm fairly well versed in all things children and how to vacation with kids successfully. I still have two boys underfoot(12&14) so while we were putting our beach home together I was trying to make it comfortable and functional. I spent many summers in a lakeside cabin in Michigan and never once worried about whether I had sand on my feet as I traipsed through the house. We have a slew of furry friends and while WE DON'T TAKE them to Santa Cruz, not a dog friendly town, we do travel with them. Therefore, I understand folks who schelp their four-legged friends along. To that end most things in my house are washable and we simply ask you to keep your furry friends off the furniture and beds. My idea of a perfect vacation is to be able to walk everywhere, life as a mom requires far too much driving! Our girl in Santa Cruz allows me to stroll to Pacific Avenue(groceries, restaurants and movies) as well as a one block mosey to the sand. In my opinion if I can avoid getting in my car, it's a WIN!
I'm outnumbered and live with all guys so my movie habits seem to involve a lot of exploding robots or superheroes. I'm also more apt to be found at the pizza place with the Samurai wielding pizza thrower than I am at the "new place." My youngest is an avid hamburger fan so currently we are eating our way through the Burger Joints. Betty's Burgers is the top ranked in Santa Cruz to date. (one location up the hill and one on Pacific Avenue) Their happy hour pitcher of mojitos is not bad either. Keep in mind the food critic is a 12yo boy-he will agree that the Buttery on Soquel Ave. (with their outside picnic tables) is still our top ranked destination to eat breakfast or lunch in the Cruz.
