This bright spacious room boasts a comfy full size bed and writing desk. In a rad neighborhood in Chicago, and on the ground level of the building is an amazing coffee shop, perfect to start the day!
Private room with a full sized bed in a sunny apartment on a residential street in the Buena Park section of Uptown. It's a large 4 bedroom apt. on the 3rd floor, with 1 1/2 baths. The kitchen is neither small nor big, but full of everything you might need to cook a feast!
Guests should feel completely at home at our place - cooking, hanging out, relaxing in the living room, etc. I am mostly a "hands-off" host, meaning I can provide the tools and insights to see the city, but I leave the explorations up to the guest. Occasionally my guests and I make plans to sightsee or I will offer to take them to "secret" local spots off the beaten path, but generally I find myself giving privacy to the guests.
There's a great coffeeshop, a pizza joint, and a small grocery on the first floor of the building. Located in one of the more diverse neighborhoods in Chicago, there's tons of shopping, bars, restaurants and music venues within walking distance. We even have a wikipedia page! (website hidden)
I live with one other roommate - we're both twenty-something females, very relaxed, down-to-earth, and easy to get along with. Come stay with us!

Interaction with Guests
I'm not around very often, but when I am I'm happy to chat and give advice on where to go and how to get there. Otherwise, I'm pretty hands off, and appreciate guests who appreciate that this is meant to be a peaceful, low key kind of place to stay.
I love my neighborhood because although its so close to the hustle and bustle neighborhood of uptown, it's tucked away just enough to feel extremely welcoming and homey. Plus, we are super close to everything you might need or want. Coffee, bars, food, transportation.. It's all right there a short walk away!
We are walking distance to the red line train, which gets you right downtown as well as to other great Chicago neighborhoods. We're also an even shorter walk to major bus lines that also come in handy, although the train is usually your go to option.
I just ask that you generally be a respectful, decent person. This apartment is meant to be a quiet haven for travelers, so no unannounced guests are allowed. Also, while I'm perfectly willing to share a beer with you if we cross paths, this is not a party house or anything like that. The most essential rule, so to speak, is to simply keep the peace.
The room was indeed cozy and sunny, Peter was helpful in getting a key to me when I informed him that we'd be getting to the apartment late. Their recommendations book was super helpful. I think someone threw away my soap and washcloth? That was kind of a bummer. Other than that, the stay was pleasant.
Our stay there was absolutely perfect. The room was as described and the flat was very nice! The neighbourhood also was nice and public transport can be reached within minutes. The room and the whole flat were clean and well heated.
We only saw Peter once, but as we appreciate our privacy it was perfectly ok for us seeing him only once as he was highly helpful and could easily be reached via mobile phone.
We would definitely recommend this place!
We stayed at Katie and Peter's aparment for two nights. Katie was traveling so we only met Peter, who was kind and helpful. The room is spatious and the bed is comfortable - all in all a nice stay in a great city.
This is a good place to stay if you need a room and not much else. Peter was nice and polite when I checked in. Unfortunately, I only saw him once more in passing during my 5 week stay. When the listing says "hands off" it really means it. While the other girl who does actually live full time in this apartment was cordial, this is definitely not a place to stay if you are looking to make new friends. I never met Katie, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and say that the experience is probably much better when she is there.
Some positives are:
The room is fairly private.
The radiator keeps the room very warm
The location is great. Super close to the lake, and only a few minutes walk from the train.
The neighborhood feels safe. I never had any problems.
Communication could be better overall. Several times my food in the fridge was thrown away without warning.
Should be noted that there isn't a microwave.
Not as nice as the pictures, which can be expected anywhere.
It was great! Simple, comfortable and clean. I'd definitely recommend it.
Staying at Katie's was quite nice and exceeded our expectations. The location of her apartment is great; the neighborhood is extremely nice and safe, I always felt very comfortable being outside and walking around even when we arrived late from our daily activities. She was very flexible with check in, as we arrived a bit on the later side, it was 100 percent hassle free. She was very kind and offered us water upon arrival, later she helped my bf make tea. We felt extremely comfortable from the moment we arrived. Since we were out most of time we did not have much interaction and did not see much of her; however whenever we were there her presence was barely felt, at any time day or night. Her apartment was very quiet as well as clean and smelled really nice, specially the hand soap bar in her bathroom. She was very respectful of our privacy which I loved. The room was very clean, with a nice view of the neighborhood, there were two towels and some hangers for us to use, the bed was clean and nicely made. Thank you Katie! :)

Sometimes, I like lists.
- Born and raised in Chicago. I've left my city many times for periods of time but always come back, I love it!
- I'm a do-it-yourself Kind of person. You name it - grow it, cook it, create it, fix it... I like doing work with my hands
- Travel style? Always try to do it on the cheap, but most importantly in ways that will lead me to long hangouts with people from the place I'm visiting. Love talking with people, hearing stories and other perspectives... I've travelled mostly in southeast Asia, but also have spent quality time in France, Morocco, and Nepal.
-Love the local music spots in Chicago for Indie bands and beyond.
Hosting Style? Both Katie and I provide all the basics for you to feel at home, just trying to provide a relaxing space where my guests can feel comfortable and cozy. Peter will be coordinating with guests more than Katie in the coming months, but rest assured he has managed airbnb rooms for years as well! I really enjoy it when guests feel like they have a place where they can feel at home, no matter the length of the stay. Understanding that this is a shared living space, I strive for a mutual understanding of respecting everyone's privacy. If time allows for both parties, I can definitely be down to take guests out and about, showing them the best hole-in-the-wall spots to eat, drink, see architectural treasures, parks, beaches, etc. I grew up in Chicago and love showing my city off when I get the chance to.
