A beautiful countryhouse of the first years of the 20th century. Original structure, surrounded by an hectare of land. The apartments have been obtained which can accomodate from 2 to 7 people. The apartment "Le Civette" is exposed towards south-east, it has three doublebedrooms, a large "living" and two bathrooms. In the kitchen there is a large fireplace which has been restructured as it was in origin. The same road that takes to the beautiful countryhouse takes to "La Scarzuola", the surreal construction designed by Tommaso Buzzi.
This large, traditional country house is in the hills near Montegiove Castle. The town of Montegabbione is not far. The house is around 470 metres above sea level and is in the Province of Terni. The country house has two guest apartments. The owner lives in the house with his three dogs and three cats. Grounds of one hectare with olive, fig and apple trees surround the house. It is 700 metres from the main road. The apartment have recently been renovated and have antique terracotta tiles and wood beamed ceilings. The surrounding area is perfect for exhilarating walks. Beautiful Lake Trasimeno is thirty-five kilometres away. You can enjoy interesting day trips to the historic cities of Orvieto, Perugia and Todi and the to ancient town of Citta della Pieve.

The house happened to be just what I was looking for:comfortable, warm, close to all my old Umbrian friends, lovely hosts Paola and Paolo...... I can only recommend it wholeheartedly.Thank you Paola and Paolo to make my long planned return to Umbria over the Holidays a very special event that I will never forget. Donata and Maurizio totally agreed with me.Grazie, grazie: ci rivedremo!!I
We spent just under 4 weeks at Paola fabulous country house in Umbria. Our stay was comfortable, with very nice kitchen, with two ovens, big fridge, lovely fireplace, nice beds and two bathrooms and a small sunny balcony. Everything you need for a decent stay. There is serviceable wifi but the reception can be tricky. ended up using a 3G ipad with wifi hotspot enabled as the download speeds were faster than the adsl connection. Lots of cats and a couple of dogs, that were all very friendly. We used the house as a base to explore inner Italy, visiting many towns including Sienna, Orvieto, Assisi and took a train trip to Rome and back. If you have a car, it's great. the supermarket is a good 20 mins on a very windy road. Cooking is highly recommended as we found eating out with small kids was a bit hit n miss especially in the later afternoon when one starts to get hungry. Highly recommended if you like country life, cooking and driving.
We just loved our stay at Paola's Countryhouse in Umbria! The apartment is on the second floor and is very large. It has been recently renovated and Paola has a very good aesthetic that we really enjoyed. Most importantly, the kitchen had every thing we needed, the bathrooms were very nice and modern, and the beds were the best we have had in 10 weeks of traveling in France and Italy! The location was rural and beautiful. It is a nice place for resting in the country or as a base to travel to the wonderful towns of Umbria. Paola was a wonderful host who was responsive to our questions and our needs. I highly recommend the Countryhouse in Umbria!
It is such a lovley place. We stayed there the entire month.
Who ever is looking for a quiet and calm surrounding, this is the perfect place to get away from city life. A wonderful garden filled with fig, olive, hazelnut trees and rosemary, mint, sage and tomato bushes rounds off the Mediterranean feeling.
We found two restaurants which are not far with local food and good service. One is "Gatto Giallo" (Montegabbione) Alexandro speaks a very good english and you can feel that he loves his job.
The other is in the village Carnaiola. The signs will guide you there "La Locanda di Desideria".
A car is highly recommended as the next closes supermarket is 20 min. away.
The friendliness of Paola & Paolo made this stay even more special. And you feel never alone as you are surrounded by 5 cats and two dogs which are so cute and kind.
We would go back any time
The place is very quiet. If you want to get away from the city and hear nothing in the night (beside some dog barking) - this is a perfect place. If you are a stargazer - this is also the right spot, though the view is best after the rain (which we had 2 times only). Countryhouse is big and lovely. We spent time cooking, baking bread, reading books, drinking local wine and feeding the cats :)
The hosts provide you with what you may need (like towels for example) and in Fabro Scalo (about 20km) there is a supermarket (coop) where you can buy all the rest.
Among the places that you may want to visit we loved Orvieto best. The city has a true soul, old stone monuments, beautiful cathedral and wonderful small boutiques with italian (!) handmade products.
So we really loved our stay and we hope to be back in the future.
Grazie mille Paola and Paolo.
Very nice home. Perfect for 2 couples with 2 children. The owner (living on the other side of the house) even had cats and dogs, which were a huge plus to entertain the kids every morning. Quiet place with huge yard, one hammock and a nice view over the valley. Absolutely need a car to get there and around, but excellent starting point to visit Umbria (Orvieto, Trasimano lake, Perugia, Assisi), South Tuscany (Cortona, Montepulciano, Siena) and even north of Lazio (Bolsena lake). Easy to get there from Rome. No real downside :)
We spend a very relaxing week in the wonderful Umbria countryside, the house is spacious and light and very comfortable, even for 6 persons, and has a very practical kitchen and grill. Paolo and Paola are great hosts and were very helpful, both for practical and for sightseeing questions. Highly recommended!
Paola's country apartment was absolutely gorgeous. It was spacious for all of us-- 6 adults and 1 child. We enjoyed cooking meals and eating outdoors on the terrace or indoors in the beautiful dining/ living room. Paola and Paolo invited us to a delicious dinner, which we enjoyed with two French guests who stayed in another apartment. Paola and Paolo were very friendly and helpful. Grazie mille, Paola and Paolo!
A little rural paradise!
We had the pleasure to stay in the house for four nights. Me & my friends had a lovely time.
This place is really something special and if you´re looking for a calm, magic getaway in the mountains this is for you.
The house is beautifully restored with a kitchen to die for.
The hosts Paola & Paul are really cool cats. And the dogs are a fun duo.
Don´t hesitate It´s a true gem!
Le Civette (the owls) is a beautifully restored stone building, in a remote area of the forest near Montegabbione. We stayed in the upstairs 3-BR 2 Bath apartment. Very clean, with beautiful rough brick stone floors, full kitchen, large living room, wifi, a nice TV (Italian only but with computer hookups if you have movies). Great fridge. Big fireplace for winter nights. The fully fenced property is very pet friendly. And the hosts Paola and Paolo are very people friendly! They will help you with whatever you need.
We were there for 7 weeks, and spent many fun nights trading dinners and stories with Paola and Paolo. Laundry machine available at a moderate cost, with plenty of clothes lines.
The birds and forest sounds are wonderful. It is very quiet and peaceful there. Don't miss La Scarzuola, (website hidden) , a church and architectural wonder just down the street. Assisi and Orvieto within 1 hour drive. Siena 1.5 hour. Deruta, a mecca for Italian pottery and ceramic plates, is 45 minutes away on the way to Perugia.
There are restaurants in the hills to the east towards Marsciano and in nearby towns. The closest is Peperoncini in Montegabbione, though I recommend L'Ape Regina (Queen Be) in Monteleone d'Orvieto about 20 minutes away. But you have plenty of supplies to cook at home, too. Paola will give you cooking lessons if you ask, and you will end up having a grand night!
There is a "romantic getaway" single room on the ground floor which is also very popular.
We will be back some time in the future when we are in the area. It is a wonderful place to stay.
