The Victoria Family
We have spent a good week in alma's appartment. It's near the subway and the food shops. When we were arrived, the room was ok, clean and luminous, exactly as the photo. We just would like meet alma.
Our stay in New York was amazing and the apartment was great.
The apartment was in a perfect location with easy access to Manhattan and all the sights New York via the very near subway.
The apartment was very cosy with lots of character and perfect to relax in after a day shopping and sightseeing.
The lady who hosted us was really nice and very helpful.
We shared a bathroom which I am not a big fan of but it was fine as we didn't once see any other people.
The stairs to the apartment are very steep which was fine for us but might not be for older people.
Overall I would recommend this place to my friends and family and would stay here again if I returned to New York.
We enjoyed our stay at the Alma as it was in real New York but was within 15 minutes of Manhattan. The subway weekly unlimited trips card was a no-brainer and we used that plenty. The room description was exactly right and although modest was good value and convenient to have a kitchen in the deal. Might have been good to have a kettle and microwave as equipment was limited to a 2 ring hob, toaster and mini oven. The location was really convenient for The Pratt Institute, Clinton Hill, Prospect Park (a real gem) with a shuttle running direct from the nearest subway station. We also went to the massive Green Park cemetery which was stunning. Also went to Williamsburg by subway on the Sunday which was a good day out. Recommend Egg for brunch. We would definitely consider staying again even though we had no contact with our host except to receive emailed instructions on getting from airport and door codes plus recommendations. The area might seem a little intimidating on arrival but we felt safe and the low cost supermarkets were brilliant. Worth noting that there is the biggest laundromat in my experience within 200 (website hidden) the bed was sumptuous.
We stayed for a week and it is a very nice, modern room, everything in there that you might possibly need. Sharing a bathroom was not an issue at all. Neighbourhood is nice, we were 2 girls, but felt quite safe at all times. The system the figured out for Check in and Check out is nice and very convenient. Metro is in walking distance (about 30 minutes into the city), there is a bus stop on the corner, grocery shopping opportunities are right around the corner as well. Downside was that sometimes the internet signal was lost, moving around the room helped, but was sometimes a little exhausting.
Some of our mails were not answered, but we figured it out by ourselves in the end.
Would recommend it to my friends!!
Jenny and I were visiting NY for the first time and for Jenny's 40th birthday. We wanted to experience all the main activities, but being from Lambeth in London, we also wanted to experience where real life goes on.
The Alma Victoria is in a great location for transport and places to eat. The guest house and the street has lots of the NY charracter we were hoping to find. We always felt safe and really liked all the people we met and heard.
The room was large, clean and the bed was very comfortable. The house was quiet as to was the surrounding area - except on Saturday night when a very loud sound system plaid up until 2am. But that's why we came to Brooklyn.
The only downside for us was communication with the host. We had sent a few mails via Airbnb over the months before our trip and none were acknowledged or responded to. Crucially, two mails sent requesting information on how we would gain access to the property were not responded to which resulted in us making 3 or 4 unanswered calls to the emergency number after landing and then spending an hour on the street in front of the guest house before a neighbour let us use their mobile phone when the host then answered. She was very apologetic as it seemed she had been driving and that she had been responding to my mails the whole time but thst some issue had prevented me from receiving them, an issue I will now seek to take up with Airbnb as this technical failure did create a very stressful start to our holiday.
I did also use the office and out of hours number on the Sunday night as I needed the phone in the hallway number to get a Taxi. Again these were not answered.
As such, my advice is at least a week before your visit make sure you have the front door security code, and make sure that your mobile phone is going work when you arrive (we had to try contacting the host with the cabbie's phone and passers by in the street).
I enjoyed the place alot. It is realy private. We only shared a bathroom with other guests which we never saw. Room is big and nicely furnished. Everything was clean. The only negative thing was that the internet was very slow - to a point where you could not watch youtube anymore or use it at all. I used my cellphones data. :)
Everything was as described. a nice, quiet little studio apartment perfect for a few days stay in NYC. there were bus stops right on the corner and a train station a few blocks away. we had everything we needed. even sharing a bathroom with another room was no big deal, as we never even encountered each other. thank you so much!
