The Guest house is situated in the heart of Olympic Estate a bustling Nairobi neighbourhood. Although you feel in the middle of a vibrant community there is also a strong sense of security as the guest house is beyond two guarded gates.
Transport into town is incredibly easy as you are only a stone's throw from Olympic Bus terminal, with round the clock buses going directly to the centre of Nairobi.
Olympic is an estate which borders Kibera, the biggest slum in Africa and this is of interest to many guests who may have work or interest in Kibera. We can arrange tours or assistance with navigating within Kibera, and if you just want to soak up the atmosphere we can help you with that a well!
We had the pleasure of staying with Edwin at Olympic Estates. Edwin was friendly and personable and really made our stay enjoyable. The place was clean and comfortable and we enoyed the food so much! Internet wasn't working, but Edwin was thinking it would be fixed soon. The location is safe and took Diddy's Kibera tour, which was great. We would definitely recommend staying here.
After the first uncertainties about the location of the place, I felt instantly at home. Edmund understood the first impression and knows well how to make visitors feel at ease. He took me at the arrival evening for a short stroll into Kibera which made me feel at home. I felt no agression or other conflict potential in the neighbourhood.
The fact that Edmund is involved with non profit organisation enables you to contribute if you are interested (I did volunteering one morning with his work colleage Sharon in a home for disabled people).
I would return any time and see Edmund and his friends again.
Special thanks to Maureen, she is just the best!
I've really enjoyed my stay here! The staff are wonderful people that are very welcoming and helpful. The food is local and delicious, and the neighbourhood is vibrant and gives you the opportunity to learn about how the majority of Nairobians live.
I had an excellent stay in this guest house! The food provided by Julie was varied and the rooms and bathroom were kept very clean and tidy. There was also inclusive laundry service which was useful. Edwin the manager was both knowledgeable and helpful and tours of the local area in Kibera could be easily arranged which helped with getting your bearings in an unfamiliar environment. Security did not feel like an issue since Olympic is certainly one of the nicer areas of Kibera and there were two security gates to pass through, both manned 24/7. It's also only about a 2 minute walk to the bus stop for easy access into the centre of Nairobi by bus/matatu-about 30 mins into town depending on the time of day/traffic. Overall a very reasonable, comfortable and friendly place to stay and definitely recommended whether you're only in this area of Nairobi for a few days or volunteering etc. for a longer period of time.
The staff at this Guest House (particularly Edwin and Julie) were welcoming and very helpful. The food was great – eggs and coffee for breakfast and often a choice of what to eat in the evening. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom clean and the shower hot. I was initially apprehensive about the location of this B and B but I felt safe the whole month I stayed at the B and B. The road where it is situated is guarded 24 hours a day and the Guest House itself is gated. In fact, I would say that if you want to stay somewhere unique and authentic then this is definitely the place.
This is another great guesthouse, the rooms are clean and there is hot running water, a luxury for the area! There is a full time security guard for the estate as well as very secure looking gates, creating a very secure environment. Julie provides you with all the food you can eat, and Edwin the manager is extremely helpful. Edmund the owner, has so many ideas of things to do in the area, and contacts to make your stay extremely eventful. I would thoroughly recommend anyone looking for an excellent value authentic experience of Nairobi to stay here, whether it is just for one or two nights or for an extended period of time.
