About this listing
Private room w/ comfortable queen bed, desk, HDTV. You are welcome to use all areas of the home. Home is currently available for 30+ day stays only. If you need a shorter stay, please send us a message w/ dates & guest count as we have other places.
Thank you for checking out our listing. Jon, Ringo and Roxy (the dogs), and I hope you will be our next roommate! At this time, we are looking for a guest to stay at least 30 days, but please contact us if you need a shorter stay. We have other accommodations available around Phoenix, so hopefully we can still help you! :-)
This listing is for the private bedroom at the opposite end of the house from the master bedroom and has become a favorite for our longer-term guests (up to 6 months). It really is a home away from home.
****Please let us know if you have any pets. Pets are accepted on a case by case basis, and we require that you have a place to keep your pet (i.e. dog crate, pet carrier, etc.) while you may be away from the house.
The room has a SUPER comfortable queen-size bed, its own TV with DVD player, and a small desk that is great for working or playing on your laptop (wi-fi is included). The large closet is ready for you to unpack and store your luggage.
In terms of the house itself, you have access to a private bathroom stocked with toiletries, towels, and hair dryer, so you can pack light. There is also another half bath available as well, which gives you options.
We are big believers in "Make yourself at home," and you are welcome to use anything in the house that you need. The kitchen, laundry room, and bathrooms are fully stocked for you. There is a separate fridge for you, so you have lots of room to store food and drink. The workout room has a bunch of DVDs, weights, and yoga equipment, so fitness nuts can get a great workout in.
Ringo and Roxy are both medium-sized dogs (45lbs). Ringo is really smart and loves everyone. Roxy is super cute and pretty friendly, but she is a little afraid of men, so please don't be offended if she barks a little at first. Just give her a few ice cubes or treats and she'll love you forever.
If you have questions about the area, there is almost always someone in the house. Jon and I are around most of the time, and we also have several employees who work out of our home office on occasion. We are all happy to help you learn more about the area and guide you to our favorite spots!
Our home is located in a quiet neighborhood in the South Mountain area of Phoenix. We are very convenient to downtown Phoenix, as well as Tempe and Glendale, making this a great location for most work trips to the area. Because of how spread out Phoenix is, and the fact that the community of Laveen is a newer area, WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND HAVING A CAR. There is a bus stop about 5 minutes from our house, but it is MUCH easier and faster to get around with a car.
If you are coming to Phoenix to explore the city, a quick drive will get you almost anywhere in the city. We are happy to help you get acclimated to the area if you would like suggestions. From white water rafting and trapeze lessons, to wine tastings or museums, we have found a lot of fun things to do in the Phoenix area!
From our house to local attractions we are:
- Downtown Phoenix (NBA and MLB games, museums): 15-20min
- Tempe (ASU, Mill Ave): 20-25min
- Westgate (Cardinals Stadium, shopping): 20min
- Old Town Scottsdale (bars, restaurants): 25-35min
If you are more adventure focused, we are located 5 minutes from great mountain biking and hiking in South Mountain Park, plus we have walking/biking trails, tennis courts, basketball courts, and more within walking distance of our home. The Bougainvilla and Aguila Golf Courses are both within 5 minutes from our house.
Phoenix is a great place to explore the Southwest. San Diego, LA, Las Vegas, and the beaches of Mexico are all about 5 hours away. The Grand Canyon, Sedona, White Mountains, and AZ's wine country are 2-4 hours. We have been to almost every corner of the state, so if you want to know the hidden treasures, we would be happy to tell you our favorite places to visit.
If you have any questions on the listing, or Phoenix in general, just send us a message. We look forward to getting to know you! :)
You will have access to all areas of our home, except the master bedroom. There is a ping-pong table and big screen upstairs in the loft that we are happy to set up for you. You also have access to the laundry room if you've been on the road for a while, and the kitchen in case you want to cook a home-cooked meal.
Interaction with Guests
We love to interact with our roommates and guests! We often find ourselves having a weekend breakfast together, or hanging out watching movies at night. If you prefer more privacy, that's not a problem at all either.
Laveen is a farming community that has started to fill in with housing developments. It is very unique to the Phoenix area because of its rich mix of cultures. We chose to live here because of the area's diversity, as well as the occasional farm smell that drifts into the neighborhood (it reminds us of growing up in the Midwest).
We HIGHLY advise having a car if you stay with us, and we have off-street parking available for you. Phoenix is a SUPER spread out city (50+ miles in all directions), so while we do have public transportation near us, it can take a while to get to your destination by bus. By car, we are 20 minutes to many popular destinations.
Feel free to ask about distances, and I'll let you know average drive times.
Other Things to Note
We love people with positive attitudes. :)
Not too many rules here. We just as that you respect our home and the quiet neighborhood.
The house is non-smoking. If you need to smoke, please use the backyard or front drive. No drugs on the property. If you like to drink, please be responsible and drink in moderation. We don't want to have clean up your drunken mess.
We don't mind if you make yourself at home, but we ask that you be relatively clean. If you spill something, clean it up.
You have your own fridge and space for your food in the laundry room. If you nee more space for your items, we can clear out a shelf in our pantry too. Feel free to use any of the dishes/pans/cooking stuff in the kitchen.
Well mannered pets are welcome here, but you MUST have a crate to leave them in while you are out. Sometimes even the most well-behaved animals get anxious in a new room, so to protect our home, they need to be in a crate if you aren't here.
Check-In and Check-Out can be flexible depending on other guests.
The shower and toilet have their own room, plus there is another half bath available on the 1st floor.

We had the best experience staying with Amanda and John. Even though we got in later than expected, one of them was up to greet us. There home is well taken care of and very comfortable room and bathroom. They answered any questions and were very friendly. I would highly recommend staying with them if you are in their area.
Kato( my dog ) and I had a great stay ! Jon and Amanda where great host . Their place was very clean and comfortable. Great area very quiet and good location .I would definitely recommend staying !
Amanda and Jon were both very welcoming (and so were their lovely dogs). The house is clean and spacious and the neighbourhood lovely and quiet. We had everything we needed for our stay and would recommend.
The house is wonderful: big, very clean in very quiet location. I had some problems trying to figure out the heating system but the host was available on the phone to help me. Unfortunately internet didn't work at all at the time of my stay. I would have stayed longer if it did - I just rely on internet for my work.
I was very happy with the fact that this is dog friendly home. I received nice recommendations about the activities for my dog which was very sweet.
The internet being out was definitely a bummer! It appeared to be a problem with our provider as all our locations with that provider were experiencing the problem. It appears to be fixed and we are crossing our fingers everything is fixed because we also rely on the internet every day!
Amanda and Jon were some of the nicest airbnb hosts I ever had. They helped me out when I stayed in a shady motel in a ghetto area of Phoenix. Amanda and Jon were so helpful! When I contacted them I received a reply 5min later telling me to come to their place at the same night. I got a very nice room in the upper floor of their house. Amanda has awesome domestic skills and the whole house is organised more professional than most hotels I stayed at. Breakfast and coffee were awesome and I really enjoyed talking to Jon about his travels to Japan (a country I plan to go to for a long time). I'm really looking forward to meet up with you again, guys!

About the Host, Amanda
Married. Entrepreneurial. Amanda was born and raised a South Dakota farm girl. Graduate of Augsburg College in Minneapolis. Escaped the snow and cows by moving to Phoenix. That's me in a nutshell. Jon is from small town Indiana, in fact it's THE small town that John Cougar Mellencamp sings about in "Small Town." We've each been down in AZ over 10 years, but are Midwest kids at heart.
I am a bit of a domestic fanatic, and do pod-casting with the Quick and Dirty Tips network (the Domestic CEO). I absolutely love to show off my domestic skills by hosting people in our home as well as the places that we manage for others. I have always had dreams of owning a bed and breakfast. AirBNB is my way to do that.
Jon, is an entrepreneur too. He or I both work from home often, so there is usually at least one of us here to answer questions about things to do in the area.
Both of us also responds to requests from guests so you may speak with him as well either in messages or by phone or email if you decide to book with us.
We have 2 dogs: Ringo, an Australian Cattle Dog, and Roxy, a Heinz 57 who got more beauty than brains. Both are friendly, and great with kids.
When we aren't working, we both enjoy working out, camping, mountain biking, travelling, and spending time with friends. We aren't big partiers anymore, and we are a pretty mellow couple, so our house is fairly quiet and drama free. :-)
Amanda's favorite travels to date have been Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands, and a couple weekends to London. My most embarrassing "lost in translation" moment was when I told my hosts in Ecuador that my legs were sore because I rode a "caballero" for 4 hours. After the shock wore off, they realized I meant "caballo," but it was too late.... If you don't speak Spanish, look up those two words. The difference is small, but significant.
Jon enjoyed visiting parts of Japan that many don't have the privilege to see as well as white-water rafting the Pacuare River in Costa Rica.
Thanks for reading our long bio. We look forward to meeting you!
