Private Room. Quiet Neighborhood

House - Private room · West Coles Road, Phoenix, AZ 85339, United States

This private room is great for travelers who want quiet time during their trip. Super comfy bed with loads of privacy! We have 2 listings, so you are likely to meet some other friendly travelers when you stay with us. :)

The Space

Thank you for checking out our listing. We've been hosting for about a year and are having a blast meeting people from all over the world. Jon, Ringo and Roxy (the dogs), and I hope you will be our next guest! :-)

This listing is for the private bedroom at the opposite end of the house from the master bedroom. It is great for one-night guests, but has become a favorite for our longer-term guests (up 1 month in the summer, or up to 2 weeks in peak season). It really is a home away from home.

****Please let me know if you have any pets. Pets are welcome to stay here and we do charge an additional $5/night per pet and require that you have a place to keep your pet (i.e. dog crate, pet carrier, etc.) while you may be away from the house.

The room has a SUPER comfortable queen-size bed, its own TV with DVD player, and a small desk that is great for working or playing on your laptop (wi-fi is included). The large closet is ready for you to unpack and store your luggage.

In terms of the house itself, you have access to a private bathroom stocked with toiletries, towels, and hair dryer, so you can pack light. There is also another half bath available as well, which gives you options. We do have another AirBNB listing, but we've never had a problem with guests sharing the 2 bathrooms. A quick conversation at night about morning routines, and it's always gone smoothly.

We are big believers in "Make yourself at home," and you are welcome to use anything in the house that you need. The kitchen, laundry room, and bathrooms are fully stocked for you. There is a separate fridge for guests, so you have lots of room to store food and drink. The workout room has a bunch of DVDs, weights, and yoga equipment, so fitness nuts can get a great workout in.

Ringo and Roxy are both medium-sized dogs (45lbs). Ringo is really smart and loves everyone. Roxy is super cute and pretty friendly, but she is a little afraid of men, so please don't be offended if she barks a little at first. Just give her a few ice cubes or treats and she'll love you forever.

If you have questions about the area, there is almost always someone in the house. Jon and I are around most of the time, and we also have several employees who work out of our home office on occasion. We are all happy to help you learn more about the area and guide you to our favorite spots!

Our home is located in a quiet neighborhood in the South Mountain area of Phoenix. We are very convenient to downtown Phoenix, as well as Tempe and Glendale, making this a great location for most work trips to the area. Because of how spread out Phoenix is, and the fact that the community of Laveen is a newer area, WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND HAVING A RENTAL CAR. There is a bus stop about 5 minutes from our house, but it is MUCH easier and faster to get around with a car.

If you are coming to Phoenix to explore the city, a quick drive will get you almost anywhere in the city. We are happy to help you plan your adventures if you would like suggestions. From white water rafting and trapeze lessons, to wine tastings or musems, we have found a lot of fun things to do in the Phoenix area!

From our house to local attractions we are:
- Downtown Phoenix (NBA and MLB games, museums): 15-20min
- Tempe (ASU, Mill Ave): 20-25min
- Westgate (Cardinals Stadium, shopping): 20min
- Old Town Scottsdale (bars, restaurants): 25-35min

If your trip is more adventure focused, we are located 5 minutes from great mountain biking and hiking in South Mountain Park, plus we have walking/biking trails, tennis courts, basketball courts, and more within walking distance of our home. The Bougainvilla and Aguila Golf Courses are both within 5 minutes from our house.

If you are going to be travelling around the Southwest after your time in Phoenix, you can feel free to leave bigger bags here and use this as your base. San Diego, LA, Las Vegas, and the beaches of Mexico are all about 5 hours away. The Grand Canyon, Sedona, White Mountains, and AZ's wine country are 2-4 hours. Take your carry-on, and leave the big stuff while you explore. We have been to almost every corner of the state, so if you want to know the hidden treasures, we would be happy to tell you our favorite places to visit.

We have a wide variety of sports and camping equipment to get you outside and enjoying the AZ scenery during your visit too. Some of the items you are welcome to use are (deposits required for larger items):

- Mountain bikes and helmets (local use only)
- Golf clubs (left and right handed sets)
- Water bottles and hiking backpacks
- Camping equipment (tent, sleeping bags, air mattresses, camping cookware, lanterns)
- Backpacking backpacks
- Tennis rackets
- And more!

Looking for Super Bowl accommodations? Please see our whole house listing as we will not be doing single room reservations that week.

If you have any questions on the listing, or Phoenix in general, just send us a message. We look forward to getting to know you! :)

Guest Access

Groups will have access to all areas of our home, except the master bedroom. There is a ping-pong table and big screen upstairs in the loft that we are happy to set up for you. You also have access to the laundry room if you've been on the road for a while, and the kitchen in case you want to cook a home-cooked meal.

Interaction with Guests

We love to interact with our guests! We often find ourselves having a weekend breakfast together, or hanging out watching movies at night. If you prefer more privacy, that's not a problem at all either.

The Neighborhood

Laveen is a farming community that has started to fill in with housing developments. It is very unique to the Phoenix area because of its rich mix of cultures. We chose to live here because of the area's diversity, as well as the occasional farm smell that drifts into the neighborhood (it reminds us of growing up in the Midwest).

Getting around

We HIGHLY advise having a car if you stay with us, and we have off-street parking available for you. Phoenix is a SUPER spread out city (50+ miles in all directions), so while we do have public transportation near us, it can take a while to get to your destination by bus. By car, we are 20 minutes to many popular destinations.

Feel free to ask about distances, and I'll let you know average drive times.

  • My sister and I stayed with Amanda and Jon as our first Airbnb experience and it was fantastic! Amanda and Jon were very pleasant, easy-going, and helpful! We felt welcomed and at-home. Their doggies were great too! The house was perfect for our stay, large kitchen and rooms, very clean, and located in a quiet, clean neighborhood as well. There is a trail one house away if you like to walk or run in the mornings. Other guests were great as well! We had a fantastic time and would definitely stay again! Elisa :)

  • Greeted warmly, I really felt welcome. Great community feel as others were checking in too. Seem like fascinating hosts... Wish we could have hung out longer. Price was great. Process easy. If stay here again definitely!

  • I booked Amanda's place for my parent's to stay while we were all in town for my son's wedding. My parents loved their stay there, and were particularly happy with the comfortable bed, and, most especially, with Amanda's Extra Mile Effort in coming to meet them when they got lost in the dark coming home from dinner their first night there! Everything we had read about Amanda being an excellent host, being helpful in everyway, we can attest to! It was a very pleasant, comfortable stay. And the pooches were well behaved and friendly, without being any sort of a bother!! Thanks Amanda, for working with us so amiably, and for taking good care of my parents!

  • What a great introduction into the world of airBNB. Amanda was my first host and she did not disappoint. She was friendly and inviting, the house and bedrooms were comfortable and clean, and most of all I felt extremely safe! I felt very at home and have never slept so well when traveling. Will absolutely stay with Amanda again on my next trip to Phoenix (if we don't buy something before then) LOL. Thank you Amanda! p.s.- Loved the dogs.

  • Amanda and Jon are fabulous. Their home is comfortable and beautiful. The bed was super comfy. A wonderful place to stay for my first visit to the Phoenix area. Easy to take care of the business I was in town for with this option. They made my first airbnb experience a very positive one.

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Amanda and Jon's lovely home! They are very good hosts--warm, friendly and helpful. Our room was very clean and comfortable.
They are located in a quiet neighborhood, close to stores, restaurants, etc. We would definitely stay here the next time we are in Phoenix!!

  • Beautiful house with well stocked bath, friendly dogs. Everything was as advertised, including needing a car for convenient transportation. Separate guest frig was very convenient. I really enjoyed Amanda and Jon 's recommendation of a relatively close hole-in -the -wall Thai restaurant that was rated Best of Phoenix 2013.

  • Excellent place to stay. Just a short drive downtown and the hosts are cool people. House was clean, access simple, and the mattress and bedding top notch. I would stay here again for sure.

  • Everything about my stay was just great!
Amanda and her husband make you feel right at home and at the same time give you as much privacy and space that you could ask for.
Its a very good value for the price in a very quite and safe neighborhood.

About
Married. Entrepreneurial. Amanda was born and raised a South Dakota farm girl. Graduate of Augsburg College in Minneapolis. Escaped the snow and cows by moving to Phoenix. That's me in a nutshell. Jon is from small town Indiana, in fact it's THE small town that John Cougar Mellencamp sings about in "Small Town." We've each been down in AZ over 10 years, but are Midwest kids at heart. I am a bit of a domestic fanatic, and do pod-casting with the Quick and Dirty Tips network (the Domestic CEO). I absolutely love to show off my domestic skills by hosting people in our home as well as the places that we manage for others. I have always had dreams of owning a bed and breakfast. AirBNB is my way to do that. Jon, is an entrepreneur too. He or I both work from home often, so there is usually at least one of us here to answer questions about things to do in the area. We have 2 dogs: Ringo, an Australian Cattle Dog, and Roxy, a Heinz 57 who got more beauty than brains. Both are friendly, and great with kids. When we aren't working, we both enjoy working out, camping, mountain biking, travelling, and spending time with friends. We aren't big partiers anymore, and we are a pretty mellow couple, so our house is fairly quiet and drama free. :-) Amanda's favorite travels to date have been Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands, and a couple weekends to London. My most embarrassing "lost in translation" moment was when I told my hosts in Ecuador that my legs were sore because I rode a "caballero" for 4 hours. After the shock wore off, they realized I meant "caballo," but it was too late.... If you don't speak Spanish, look up those two words. The difference is small, but significant. Jon enjoyed visiting parts of Japan that many don't have the privilege to see as well as white-water rafting the Pacuare River in Costa Rica. Thanks for reading our long bio. We look forward to meeting you!
