Great deal in a Spectacular apartment! Both Sergio and I will also be staying in the apartment in our room. The apartment is very large! Room has a desk and is great for a single or couples. We're located in a new part of Harlem that has a lot of new cafes/bars, etc.. Apt is a 7 minute walk to Central Park, by a new grocery store, laundry, new bars and restaurants, and a 10-15 minute walk to Columbia University. And just 2 stops to Times Square on the "A" Express train.
We're a 3-7 minute walk to 3 subway stations that include the A,B,C,D,2,3 Subway lines (all are Express except B,C!!) so the A or D trains run express for 8 minutes to Midtown Columbus Circle! The A express takes you all the way to Williamsburg, Brooklyn too. You can get anywhere you need to go very easily with these subway lines!
Free wifi, Netflix password, blow dryer, towels provided.
**Please tell me if you need Shampoo/Conditioner and I can provide it.
**Note: Infants and children under age 2 will be considered on situational basis, but they do count as an extra guest. They require the same extra person fee.
The apartment is well-lit and beautifully maintained and very large. You will have access to a newly remodeled kitchen and table to eat in living room. Kitchen can be used to prepare light, cold meals in such as breakfast cereals, yogurts, fruit, sandwiches, etc. Also refrigeration and cabinet use for storage. Free Wifi, bedding and towels provided. No smoking. Please store all food in the kitchen in refrigerator or pantry. We also ask you to realize you are not booking a hotel but instead space in our home. We keep it clean and tidy for all. As a traveler who uses airbnb myself, I always keep in mind that when renting with airbnb, I'm renting what a listing says. We are not renting out our entire apartment...and that is the main reason we offer our guests such great rates... because we do host them in shared in living spaces. So please do keep this in mind when considering booking, and what it means toward respecting noise and cleanliness in the common areas. As a guest, if you respect those basic principles, then we're likely to get along just fine- it's that easy :) While you stay, we also live in the apartment with you and might have another room rented. Please know, we've been hosting this way for more than 4.5 years and it always works out just fine...the apartment is huge and you will have privacy. We ask any guests who are traveling to New York for work/conferences/ school or events to tell us if they need the bathroom set aside at a specific time, so we can alert other guests to have it open to ensure appointments are met. We have always managed the common areas very well with communication :)
Please mention the phrase "I love Bananas" in your reservation request as the code word so I know you actually read all this and are not just copying and pasting requests (seriously :0).
And most importantly, we're great hosts! We'll do our best to make your stay comfortable and provide helpful tips for your travels. Really, we're like the best people on this site :) Guaranteed or your money back (ok, well maybe not, but you get the gist!)
Free Wifi. Elevator building. Filtered drinking water. Clothing iron. Blow dryer for hair. Refrigerator space. Kitchen use for prepping simple, light meals. No curfew. Living room has a dining table for eating (sorry TV doesn't work! but we can give you a netflix code for your computer). You can store food in the fridge/ cabinets. We ask you to clean the kitchen and dishes/counters as clean as you found it. Access to the living room dining table to eat. NOTE: Please keep noises and conversations in common areas (kitchen, living room, hallways) down between 10pm to 10am. Sound carries through the walls of our old apartment building and we'd like to be respectful of the sleeping habits of all in the apartment :)
Interaction with guests
We provide as much or as little interaction as you prefer. We can offer up recommendations or help if you like, or leave you be to have total privacy.
Other things to note
**Please tell me if you need Shampoo/Conditioner and I can provide it.

As a host, I like to do all I can to make your stay enjoyable, which shouldn't be hard in NYC. First-time visitors to the U.S. and solo travelers often enjoy staying with us. Professionally, I'm a producer/writer/journalist...and love learning about new people, things and places. Curiosity is an innate quality! I've traveled many places in the world and want to do more and more of it.
Airbnb is a super cool platform and way to travel. All we ask is to please actually read this listing, and to please have a completed profile with info and at least one pic (and it's not to judge you based on looks but instead so we can see the face of whomever wants to stay and sleep in our home...surely that's understandable). We also ask you to realize you are not booking a hotel but instead space in our home. We keep it clean and tidy for all. As a traveler who uses airbnb myself, I always keep in mind that when renting with airbnb, I'm renting what a listing says. In our case, we offer private rooms in a shared apartment... we are not renting out the entire apartment. So please do keep this in mind when considering booking, and the considerations it means toward respecting noise and cleanliness in the common areas. As a guest, if you respect those basic principles, then we're likely to get along just fine- it's that easy.
As for our location, while it is not ritzy glitzy soho or super trendy (and expensive!) West Village, I enjoy living in Harlem, which is in upper Manhattan, because it has a warm, energetic vibe. I am close to many great subway lines that can take me anywhere in the city (and to Brooklyn, Queens when needed). The people in this neighborhood are friendly...ethnically diverse (as most of New York City is diverse!) if you take a moment to enjoy it up here :) We are right on top of Central Park, less than a 10 minute walk away. The A train subway is only 2 stops to Times Square....but you won't have all the crazy hustle and bustle and non-stop noise like down there. We have many new and great places to eat, grab a drink, listen to jazz, go for coffee and so on.
My old roommate and Airbnb partner was Jimena, she's the one in the picture with me and Michael Moore (he's a big fan of ours :)- Now, my current Airbnb partner/BF is Sergio. That's him in the other photo, and you'll see him mentioned in some of the recent reviews. Our apartment is very large, in fact by NYC standards it is huge, and we have multiple rooms. The guests we host at any given time can fluctuate, sometimes it is just Sergio and I present with nobody else, other times maybe not. But in the more than 4.5 years hosting, we've always managed very well :) Please mention the phrase "I love Bananas" in your reservation request as the code phrase... so I know you actually read all this and are not just copying and pasting requests (seriously :0). We've gotta live together for a few days so it's nice to know you care enough to read our profile and listing in full. THANKS!
Peace out...and maybe we'll be welcoming ya to NYC soon,
J & S
