About This Listing
When you are visiting the Bay Area, house hunting, on a job assignment, spending time with family, or just want a peaceful place to be or to write, this serene, comfortable hotel alternative in nature may be perfect for you.
Small, separate cottage-like room with windows on three sides opens onto a Japanese garden and ancient oaks. Separate full bathroom is a few steps away.
Amenities include: free high speed internet and Wi-Fi, i-pod dock, mini-fridge, microwave, electric tea kettle, laundry, use of hammock and outdoor barbecue. There is also an 11x11 foot screened in "gazebo" tent on a platform with bed, foam mattress and down comforter for sleeping outdoors amidst the oaks, available to you if no other guests have booked it. There is lots and lots of off-street parking and room to roam on a full acre.
Secluded setting yet only a 10-minute walk to the little village of Orinda where you’ll find a host of restaurants, movie theater, drugstore, ice cream shop, and Peet’s (and Starbucks) coffee; five minutes further walking will take you to the Orinda BART station. So, while it is handy to have a car, it's not essential.
Orinda is well-situated out of the Bay Area fog belt, only 25 minutes by direct BART train to downtown San Francisco, even closer to Berkeley and Oakland in one direction, Concord and Walnut Creek in the other. Easy access to the wine country an hour away. Also super convenient for performances at the California Shakespeare Theater (Cal Shakes) in Orinda.
Light breakfast snacks including Peet's coffee are provided.
Sometimes, a Breakfast Basket with a delicious full breakfast may magically appear outside your door...
You may never want to leave!
(No smoking or pets please)
* The cottage room is not large; probably best for a single or a compatible couple (and/or a couple with a small child). There is lots of outdoor space however.
No smoking or drugs, please.
By late evening, use earphones if you want to listen to loud music.
The main rule is to enjoy yourself in a natural environment, close to all the action in the Bay Area, but far enough away so you can reconnect with the natural world and be really refreshed for your adventures.
Tracy is lovely, the property is very special. It is the only East Bay Air bnb we use.
Tracy made both my boyfriend and I feel at home and very relaxed. We were looking for a nice getaway, and the idyllic setting gave us the romantic atmosphere we were longing for after three months apart. Tracy is personable, welcoming, attentive, helpful and a fantastic host. The fresh homemade breakfast was both hearty and delicious. We really savored the fresh eggs, and the fireplace and grill were perfect for a nice dinner in. The directions were clear, and we found it easy to get to the house. The neighborhood is really lovely as well, full of trees and outdoor beauty. It's very easy to get to town and the bart. We had a fabulous time at Tracys' place, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a place to relax, or couples looking to spend a romantic time together:)
Tracy is a superb host! After a stressful journey, it was great to arrive at this idyllic retreat, and receive a warm welcome. The cottage is very comfortable, the bathroom is perfect, and the location is out of this world! Tashi the cat is a character you will want to meet too.
Finally, some advice for other guests. The taxi from BART to Tracy's place should cost you $6. Any more than that for this 1 mile ride and you have been longhauled. (I was taken on a 5 mile tour of Orinda. After much arguing he relented and charged me what I should have paid). An alternative is Uber, which costs around $5, but these are not always available nearby.
Tracy is a very caring host. Love the wonderful breakfast!
Tracy is a wonderful host. She helped way beyond our expectations to make our trip a memorable experience. The cottage is clean, comfortable, quiet and set in very pleasant countryside. Unfortunately the weather was too cold to use the outdoor bed, maybe next time. We came from Australia to Orinda to attend the graduation ceremony at Saint Mary's College and the location was ideal. Orinda is a congenial village and is short walk away, which we did both during the day and at night. Overall a great stay
