When you are visiting the Bay Area, house hunting, on a job assignment, spending time with family, or just want a peaceful place to be or to write, this serene, comfortable hotel alternative in nature may be perfect for you.
Small, separate cottage-like room with windows on three sides opens onto a Japanese garden and ancient oaks. Separate full bathroom is a few steps away.
Amenities include: free high speed internet and Wi-Fi, i-pod dock, mini-fridge, microwave, electric tea kettle, laundry, use of hammock and outdoor barbecue. There is also an 11x11 foot screened in "gazebo" tent on a platform with bed, foam mattress and down comforter for sleeping outdoors amidst the oaks, available to you if no other guests have booked it. There is lots and lots of off-street parking and room to roam on a full acre. Guests here for longer stays have access to a beautiful, fully stocked kitchen.
Secluded setting yet only a 10-minute walk to the little village of Orinda where you’ll find a host of restaurants, movie theater, drugstore, ice cream shop, and Peet’s (and Starbucks) coffee; five minutes further walking will take you to the Orinda BART station. So, while it is handy to have a car, it's not essential.
Orinda is well-situated out of the Bay Area fog belt, only 25 minutes by direct BART train to downtown San Francisco, even closer to Berkeley and Oakland in one direction, Concord and Walnut Creek in the other. Easy access to the wine country an hour away. Also super convenient for performances at Cal Shakes.
Light breakfast snacks including Peet's coffee are provided.
Sometimes, a Breakfast Basket with a delicious full breakfast may magically appear outside your door...
You may never want to leave!
(No smoking or pets please)
* The cottage room is not large; probably best for a single or a compatible couple (and/or a couple with a small child). There is lots of outdoor space however.
No smoking or drugs, please.
By late evening, use earphones if you want to listen to loud music.
The main rule is to enjoy yourself in a natural environment, close to all the action in the Bay Area, but far enough away so you can reconnect with the natural world and be really refreshed for your adventures.
Tracy represents the best of an AirBNB experience: thoughtful, responsive, personal, respectful. If your travels take you to Orinda, for whatever reason, you will appreciate the opportunity to stay in Tracy's home.
Tracy is a wonderful host and I would highly recommend her lovely property. The neighborhood is great and the online photos do not do justice to the beautiful landscape. Its quiet and restorative, the same feeling you get when you meet Tracy for the first time. She is present if you need her but has great respect for your personal space.
This beautiful, tranquil space was so welcoming after a 6 hour drive from southern California. The tiny, customized welcome greeting on the blackboard was very sweet. The space was cozy, although the space heater was necessary on a chilly northern California night in March. Everything about the cottage was thoughtful - the robes and slippers provided to visit the bathroom in the night (it's attached to the side of the house, across the courtyard); the snacks in the fridge and tea-making equipment in the cupboard; the helpful information about the local area left by Tracy. But the garden! - I just wish I had been able to stay longer to enjoy the garden... serene spots to eat al fresco, an outdoor fireplace, a treehouse, birds of all kinds everywhere, oak trees and daffodils... this place is a jewel, and I hope to return one day to spend more time.
Tracy was very responsive, checking in with us by email/ texting to make sure we were ok, as she wasn't at home when we arrived. She kindly allowed my husband to have a late check-out as I was teaching all day, and he was able to enjoy the cottage during the day. Stay here! You will love it!
Thanks Tracy. Marie and I really enjoyed our stay at your place. We suspect we will be back in the area soon and we would look forward to a repeat visit with you. The breakfast was great!
What a beautiful environment and a gracious and kind host. Tracy made me feel welcome. Next time, I will stay longer!
My wife and I woke up in Sacramento and decided to just get out of town for the night. She was more than happy to accept our request and even had some toys for our little one when we got there. The place is perfect and clean and the backyard is a little escape. They have a new treehouse which is amazing and the neighbor's chickens were a real treat for our toddler. Orinda is a special place and we can't wait to come back!
Wow! What a wonderful place to stay and wonderful host. I highly recommend Rest & Revive! The property is gorgeous and the host couldn't be more welcoming. A+!

I am really enjoying being an airbnb host and being able to share this lovely place where I live.
It would be a pleasure to welcome you here.
