Doug lives in the hip and historic brownstone neighborhood of Fort Greene, Brooklyn. It's a quiet and relaxing location only fifteen minutes by car or twenty minutes by subway to SOHO or Manhattan. LIRR/Flatbush Ave and the Atlantic/Barclays Terminal is a five minute walk from the house. Both national and international airports are convenient by car, taxi, subway or railroad (LIRR). Generally there is easy to find parking on the street in front or near the building.
"B-B" means a comfortable queen size bed is offered but no breakfast. Doug’s guests prefer to eat breakfast at one of the local and characteristically unique delis and restaurants near by. Shopping markets, the Barclay's Center Arena, Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), Theater for a New Audience, the Brooklyn Flea and Fort Greene Park are a few minutes from the house. Guests can use the backyard, wireless computer connection and full bathroom.
The private bedroom is compact, as you see in the pictures, there's no outside window but the open air vents around two French double doors allows fresh air and indirect sunlight into the room. The room is ideal for guests who want a quiet, clean and comfortable place to sleep; for the location and price it's a bargain. If they require more space to store baggage there's room just outside the door that is easily accessible.
The entrance is street level underneath the steps. Guests have access to the downstairs full bathroom, private bedroom, wi-fi, the backyard and can keep cold drinks and food in Doug's refrigerator. Since the upstairs floor is Doug's office and studio, please respect his wishes to keep this part of the house private, unless you would like to put something in the fridge. The kitchen and upstairs is not available to cook or eat meals.
Interaction with Guests
Doug greets guests when they arrive, assists them with directions and makes suggestions for various events, art venues and places to visit. His specialty is the visual arts, galleries, and museums, cultural events and getting around in NYC .
Fort Greene is one of the 'hottest' neighborhoods in Brooklyn. I love the restaurants, the hip bars, Fort Greene Park is down the block, the historical architecture, walks in the neighborhood, friendly people, diversity of the cultures, BAM, Theater for a New Audience, the BAM Fischer, Cinema Rose, our local movie Theater is across the street. What isn't there to like?
Rental bicycles are down the block, buses are one minute from my place and to get to any part of New York City, the subway is five minutes from my house. Parking is in front of my brownstone or in the area. You can also walk from my location into Manhattan either over the Brooklyn or Manhattan Bridges. Taking either the LIRR and Airbus from JFK is fast and cheap. There are taxis that will bring you from any of the local airports to my place at a reasonable price or take you into Manhattan or any other nearby location.
Other Things to Note
For 2015 there's no longer a hotel tax.

Something come up with family and I decide to stay two more days. But i didn't know I can change booking. Instead I booked another two days. So Doug being nice decide to refund my cleaning fee. But airbnb screwed it up by trying to change my deposit. Doug handled it with airbnb greatly and communicated well with me. All in all it worked out fine. Doug is so friendly, warm, knowledgeable. I feel like I become a friend of him through out my stay. Can't wait to book with him again. Because new York, like his place, its such an alluring place to stay.
I put in my request pretty late in the day as my booking in Jackson Heights didn't work out. But Doug accept it right. And what a nice room he had to offer. It was exactly as the picture. It was clean, comfortable and kinda artistic. It was perfectly for a 20 something visiting New York city on my own. I just fell in love with the neighborhood and convenient transit. It was perfect first airbnb experience for me.
Doug was an amazing host, who was there for me whenever I needed him. He answered any questions I had regarding the neighborhood and anything I needed as far as places to eat/nearby attractions. He was also very pleasant, knowledgeable and great to talk to. He made me feel right at home. His place was as described: very nice, quiet, and comfortable. I came to New York by car and didn't have any trouble at all finding parking nearby Doug's place throughout my 2 day stay. The location of Doug's place is incredible and was perfect for me. It is located around 5 minutes walking distance from the Atlantic Train station, which is right on the border between Brooklyn and Manhattan. It was 2 train stops away from my station in Manhattan (Lafayette). I will definitely stay at Doug's place every time I visit New York if it isn't booked. Thank you so much Doug!!!
Doug was a great host for my Brooklyn stay! He has a nice, cozy and quiet little place full of interesting books about art/artist, history and philosophy, which I thoroughly enjoyed roaming throughas an artist and poet myself. The backyard is lovely with flowers and plants and a little patio to sit out on. He is accommodating in any way to make sure you are comfortable and enjoy your stay in the city. His place is within walking distance to Fort Greene park, Urban Glass and BRIC, many resturants, shops, the subway and only a few miles from the Brooklyn Museum of Art and the Brooklyn Bridge. I enjoyed getting to know a fellow artist and look forward to more chats with Doug when I return to Brooklyn for another class in the winter.
I didn't get to meet Doug, but he made the process of staying at his place easy and hassle free. His place is in a great location. Loved Brooklyn
