The private bedroom is compact, as you see in the pictures, there's no outside window but the open air vents around two French double doors allows fresh air and indirect sunlight into the room. The room is ideal for guests who want a quiet, clean and comfortable place to sleep; for the location and price it's a bargain.
The entrance is street level underneath the steps. Guests have access to the downstairs full bathroom, private bedroom, wi-fi, the backyard and can keep cold drinks and food in Doug's refrigerator. Since the upstairs floor is Doug's office and studio, please respect his wishes to keep this part of the house private, unless you would like to put something in the fridge. The kitchen and upstairs is not available to cook or eat meals.
Interaction with Guests
Doug greets guests when they arrive, assists them with directions and makes suggestions for various events, art venues and places to visit. His specialty is the visual arts, galleries, and museums, cultural events and getting around in NYC .
Fort Greene is one of the 'hottest' neighborhoods in Brooklyn. I love the restaurants, the hip bars, Fort Greene Park is down the block, the historical architecture, walks in the neighborhood, friendly people, diversity of the cultures, BAM, Theater for a New Audience, the BAM Fischer, and Cinema Rose, and our local movie Theater is across the street. What isn't there to like?
Rental bicycles are down the block, buses are one minute from my place and to get to any part of New York City, the subway is five minutes from my house. Parking is in front of my brownstone or in the area. You can also walk from my location into Manhattan either over the Brooklyn or Manhattan Bridges. Taking either the LIRR and Airbus from JFK is fast and cheap. There are taxis that will bring you from any of the local airports to my place at a reasonable price or take you into Manhattan or any other nearby location.
Other Things to Note
For 2015 I no longer charge the hotel tax.

Come and go as you please. You're welcome to use the hairdryer if you need one.
We had a lovely stay in Fort Greene with Doug. He was a gracious host who was very helpful before and during our stay. Our room was clean and replete with dozens of books. The room is great for a couple or single traveler. Doug's place is conveniently located near the subway for quick trips to the city but I would highly suggest exploring Fort Greene on foot. After this weekend's experience staying at Doug's place I wouldn't hesitate to recommend these accommodations to anyone.
Dave was a great host, a great person to socialize with and very organized and thoughtful. He is accommodating and was able to wait for me to check in late as well as being flexible with my requests. His place was very clean, comfortable bed, a large, nice bathroom with space for my things and overall very well laid out. Dave's place is centrally located in Fort Green which is a great neighborhood not far from all the major transit stations. I was able to get on the G line to go where I needed to be everyday which was great convenience. I highly recommend his place.
Doug is an exceptional host. He was gracious and welcoming and went out of his way to recommend excellent restaurants and cafes around his beautiful Ft. Greene neighborhood. The apartment was impeccably clean, the bed was perfect, and the room was small but comfortable. What made the stay great, though, was Doug's attentiveness and decency. Highly recommended.
We stayed with Doug from May 3-7. The room is clean, cosy and the bed has a nice firm mattress. The atmosphere in the house is calm and relaxed, if you like that, I would definitely recommend this room (it's not a place to invite people over or be loud at night). Fort Greene is a charming, very safe street, with small cafes just around the corner. Doug was very friendly; he gave us advise on where to go for breakfast, about the newest art exhibitions and helped us rent bicycles to explore the city (city bikes are just around the corner). Overall, we had a very pleasant stay!
At Doug's place I was plain happy! He's not only an absolutely warmhearted, creative and interesting person - thanks for sharing your wisdom, Doug! - he also loaned me his bike, helped me with good ideas and opened my mind for the brooklyn way of well-being: organic food! ;-)
I felt save there anytime and the aera is just great: colorful, openminded, divers and full of life and joy. For me, everything was perfect! Unless my stay was about 7 weeks too short... :-) Thank you Doug!
By giving easy and detailed directions to his place, Doug made my arrival smooth. His welcoming way continued throughout my stay at this wonderful place in a quiet, yet vibrant neighborhood that has many restaurants and places to discover. Getting to Manhattan is a breeze and returning to Doug's clean, organized and homy flat after a buzzy day outside is a pleasure. I will stay there again, and only if to continue discovering Brooklyn or the many books Doug's library has to offer.
