The apartment was clean and spacious. Good location, with the subway and several shops and grocery stores nearby. Late check in was approved which was great. Minimal contact with hosts and communication often lacked. On the first day of arrival, the hosts informed me that they were having an open house the next day and suggested we keep our belongings out of sight/tidy. This was of great inconvienience. For the following days of my stay the hosts held several open days, with potential buyers and an estate agent walking through the apartment. This was very uncomfortable and did not allow us to feel safe in the apartment and put our belongings at risk. Additionally my friends and I could not fully relax as we were often told buyers would be visiting in short notice and felt we had to be out of the apartment whilst viewing occurred.
Contrary to the apartment being listed for events, we were told by the host told hold casual conversations in a different room as to not disturb their 1 year old child.
The AC was loud and not effective for the NYC summer, so the apartment was rather hot and stuffy. The wifi cut out twice but despite this it ran smoothly when working properly. The shower curtain rail often fell. Netflix was a great addition to the apartment.
The bed was stiff and uncomfortable to sleep on, resulting in restlessness. I would advise future guests to use mosquito repellent as we were bitten throughout our stay. Additionally, after sleeping on the futon, two guests were left with bites all over their legs (atypical of mosquito bites). The hosts were made aware of this and stated they would contact their exterminator as soon as possible. However they did not arrive until after our stay.
A request for late checkout was granted by the hosts for 2pm. Whilst waiting for a taxi to the airport at 2.15pm the hosts entered the apartment stating we leave the premises immediately to which we agreed once we had gathered our belongings. The hosts then threatened to contact airbnb, stating we had overstayed and were to pay an additional days stay. This was the first time meeting the hosts.
We'll be eternally grateful for Teia's and Ally's speedy acceptance, and the apartment itself is tastefully decorated and comfortable...We did, however, have one slight issue: during our two night stay, our hosts brought a realtor over to survey the residence; while the realtor himself/herself wouldn't have bothered us at all, when we returned to the apartment after the realtor's visit, we found that some of our personal belongings had been moved. We tidied up thoroughly before the realtor's arrival (we'd been notified only two hours previously that the realtor would be coming over), and it felt....odd and uncomfortable to find our stuff not where we'd left it.
I should also add that the neighbors were fantastic, and helped us to avoid a substantial parking ticket.
The Flat is so amazing and the owner is very friendly and kind! Super clean and modern and the area is very nice! Thank you! ❤️
