RRR: Robin, Rick in Russell.
We enjoyed your "very quiet place".
A truly "Russell Good Vibe" with very easy going people (that is You as our hosts).
No key to the Apt, no problem in Russell for us. For the others, they will have to figure it out.
Wekas (not Kiwis) are now our friends. Two giant NZ Pigeons even befriended us in the yard. How cool is that.
We loved cooking fresh fish and trying all kinds of smoked varieties from a close neighbour vendor. That too is quite cool.
And after a couple of days, we felt part of your community.
Of course, the Phantom Sail Experience is Awesome. A somewhat fusion between a massage and a roller coaster. How to explain?

Robin and Rick greeted us warmly on arrival and we felt instantly at home. The Plum Tree has a special charm and every convenience for an enjoyable stay. The apartment was very clean and just as pictured. Our only regret is that we were very busy and didn't manage to spend more time there! A great excuse to return and to take the opportunity to go sailing on Phantom. Thanks for your hospitality Robin and Rick and we will certainly be recommending The Plum Tree to any of our guests in The Garden Room who are venturing your way.
Robin and Rick met us upon arrival and settled us in to their cute little ground floor apartment. Everything is there that you would need to cook any meal. In fact, we purchased some "wet fish" as Rick called them and broiled them in the gas stove. We also enjoyed a day on their boat in the bay, slowly meandering out to one of the islands to swim and have a lovely lunch. That is their livelihood and guests receive about a 10% discount. The space is fine for two people. There is a bit of a musty smell that might be helped with more ventilation. Opening the windows was a problem since there are no screens which lets mosquitoes in. We appreciated being able to use the washer but were asked not to use the dryer. The clothes line would have been fine if the weather had not been overcast and rainy. Needless to say, our clothes did not dry very well hanging them inside. The neighborhood is very quiet and we saw several wiki birds running around the yard - very cool. We were not given a key to the apartment, but would have felt better to be able to lock it since there is no one there during the day when everyone is out on the boat.
Our stay at the Plum Tree apartment exceeded our expectations. It was cozy, clean and comfortable. We loved to come back to the place after a day of hiking or exploring and sit out on the deck listening to the birds, smelling the flowers and enjoying a glass of wine. It was so relaxing after being in the noisy city. Rick and Robin were great hosts. We had a great day sailing with them on their sailboat Phanton and would recommend seeing the Bay of Islands that way. The town of Russell is really quaint and with a lot of history.
Robin and Richard were very friendly and helpful. The apartment was very nice and very conveniently located.
We were made to feel extremely welcome by Robyn and Rick. The description of the cottage was very accurate and was located in a lovely neighbourhood on the edge of lovely Russell.
We had a gem of a stay at the Plum Tree to welcome in the new year. Apartment is just as pictured and described. Very cosy and perfect for a couple looking for a bit of a getaway, being tucked up in the trees and up on a hill. Only a 20 minute walk down to the shops too.
Robin and Rick were very friendly, welcoming and all that you want in a good host. Excellent communication and gave us plenty of space to ourselves. Genuinely nice people.
The pace of life really slows down in Russell so it's great if you're tired of traffic and city life! Friendly and welcoming community with lots to keep you busy. We didn't get the chance to go out on Robin and Rick's boat, Phantom, but it certainly looked a great way to see the Bay of Islands. Highly recommend.
I am an American living in NZ. I run a sailing charter business in the tourism industry between October and April. I enjoy meeting new people and have a strong interest in the arts.
