  • We had a great stay at Plum Tree Apartment. The apartment was clean, comfortable and cosy. Robin and Rick were very hospitable. We also had a great day out on their boat, which I would highly recommend. The apartment is a 2 min drive out of Russell, but still close enough to walk into the centre. The road the house is on is very quiet, so traffic noise was never an issue. Would definitely recommend!

  • We had an absolutely great stay in Plum Tree apartment. Walked back to the house every day from town, went swimming and was great to be able to make our own breakfast etc. We will be back!

  • Stayed a couple of nights in the apartment during summer.
Pros: the place is spacious and private, the loft bed is cute, there is a little kitchen and a large fridge so it's easy to self-cater, and Russell is much nicer than the kitschy Paihia across the water. The hosts run yacht tours so you can do a tour of the very pretty Bay of Islands with them if you want to.
Cons: maybe because it's below the main house, it was a bit musty and both my partner and I found ourselves sneezing and had to keep the doors and windows open. Probably some people wouldn't even notice, but if you're easily allergic, take antihistamines just in case.

  • The place is quite lovely. The house was easy to find, and the inside matches the photos quite well. The bed was comfortable, the linens and towels clean and overall, it felt like a high class place. The shower was fine, although as befitting a place more in tune with nature, there were a few bugs and spiders here and there.

I do suggest staying here for more than one night though, as I get the impression that Robin opens up more to people who stay longer.

  • My fiance and I spent the first few days of our engagement with Rick and Robin up in Russell. The accomodation is excellent with comfortable bed, amazing views and a beautiful sun-drenched verandah with excellent views.
Homely, un-fussy but characterful place done with good taste.
Rick & Robin also have a 50ft charter yacht that has been around the world. We had an amazing day out on the water (in September!) out to Roberton island. Dolphins ! Lunch on the deck, even a dip in the water.
Could not recommend more highly and a steal of a price.
    Thanks R&R,
    Josh & Julia

  • A charming, funky little space in a lovely part of NZ. Great, helpful and informative hosts, Robin and Rick. Really made us feel welcome and had lots of great information for us about the area. Great to be in such a relaxed atmosphere with no pressures and privacy. We were lucky enough to be there during a full moon and it shone through our bedroom loft window and was just magical! We also went out on their boat, and really felt pampered. A+!

  • Our stay in Russell was very enjoyable - it was a great getaway for us and proved to be a worthwhile town to visit while touring the Bay of Islands area. The apartment was very comfortable and having a kitchen was an added bonus. Robin and Rick were super helpful and ensured we had a comfortable stay!

  • In a beautiful spot a little removed from the hustle and bustle of town (but still close enough to walk in), Robin and Rick's apartment was a lovely peaceful retreat.

  • What a lovely time we had in our little apartment. My daughter and I had everything we needed and loved the area. It was the perfect first stop for our New Zealand adventure! We especially enjoyed the cozy loft bed and sitting out on the little deck. The Plum Tree is close to everything with lots of restaurants and a grocery store for supplies. There is also a fresh fish shop just down the street to pick up something for dinner.
