The Space

Behind our main home in historic McKinney, we have refurbished a 1920’s arts & craft style guest house. This 500 sq. ft. house has been completely redone inside to now include a living area, full kitchen, bedroom, and full bath. We welcome guests for an overnight stay, or an extended stay over weeks or months. Amenities in the guest house include:
Fully furnished rooms with all sheets, towels, kitchen utensils/dishes, and modern appliances
Heating and air conditioning
A spacious, fully equipped IKEA kitchen that we installed in 2011. New Whirlpool appliances include range/oven, microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator, disposal, and washer/dryer.
Included TV cable, secured wi-fi internet access, DVD/CD player, and sound system
A full bathroom
Iron, ironing board & hair dryer
Onsite parking by the guest house, or on the street

Basically, you can walk into our guest house with your suitcase(s), unpack them, and you’re home. We invite our guests to enjoy the flagstone patio and grill between the guest house and our main home. Guests also enjoy relaxing on the spacious front porch of our main home.

We live in the heart of McKinney’s Historic District. In addition to seeing the many older, picturesque homes in this area, we are a short 10 minute walk from McKinney’s Historic Downtown Square. Many of our guests enjoy the variety of restaurants, entertainment, and unique stores on the Square.

McKinney is 30 miles north of Dallas. Access to North Dallas is about a 25-30 minute drive on US75 or new tollways. We are long-time Dallas and McKinney residents, so we can assist guests with directions and suggestions for attractions, entertainment, restaurants, and shopping in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area.

Come enjoy McKinney and stay with us in our quiet, relaxed neighborhood.

  • Gary & Mary Jo were very friendly and considerate hosts, and the bungalow was exceptionally comfortable and homey. I spent a good portion of my stay working remotely, and the wi-fi connection they provided was strong, fast, and consistent – just what I needed. It was quiet enough to take a nap in the afternoon, but still within walking distance of downtown McKinney (bars, restaurants, etc.). I couldn't have been happier with my stay or my hosts. Thanks Gary and Mary Jo!

  • We had a great time at Gary & Mary Jo's! The bungalow has everything you need and the neighborhood is very quiet and nice. We liked taking walks around the McKinney historic neighborhood and trying out food at different restaurants around the city, and this was a perfect place to stay! As for the hosts, Gary & Mary Jo are just sweethearts that will do everything to make your stay a good one!

We so enjoyed spending time with you, and glad that you could have dinner with us. Hopefully we will have weather more to your liking next time, and.........maybe the pit bull owners will have moved, also!! Thanks for leaving the house so neat; cleaning it is a breeze!

  • Mary Jo and Gary were very helpful and made our stay very comfortable. They provided a Pack-N-Play for our little one which was a huge blessing not to have to bring one. They also had a box of toys for our son to play with. We never felt bothered or in their way and the cottage was very comfortable.

  • Gary and Mary Jo were a delight, with a very nice place. You can tell that they have put a lot of heart into the room and want to make the stay a pleasant one. The location is quiet and peaceful, with lots of places to sit outdoors and enjoy the evening. Very comfortable and I will stay there again.

  • Gary and Mary-Jo are such wonderful hosts, they made us feel right at home in their cosy guest house, with a lovely little porch where we would sit every morning to enjoy the sun with a book or magazine.
They respect your privacy at all times, are there for you if you need any help.
We loved to sit on their porch with them with a good glass of wine and lovely conversations.
The guest house is very clean and stocked with everything you may need and very close to small unique stores, bars and restaurants.
We hope to come back as soon as possible!

  • This was my 2nd stay at Gary and Mary Jo's guest house over the holidays, and I wasn't disappointed. The guest house was immaculately clean, set up with everything you would ever need, plus some wonderful extras like a welcome bottle of wine! The guest cottage was so homey and relaxing - I look forward to staying there again next year!

  • Gary and Mary Jo have the sweetest little guest house and were the best hosts. They had a bottle of wine (which was greatly needed!) and the place was as quaint as could be. I only got a chance to sit on the porch once, but it was so relaxing! Best little place in McKinney if you ask me!

  • A charming guest house that is well-furnished and spotless. The bed is comfortable, bathroom stocked with plenty of towels and amenities and the kitchen had everything we needed. Gary and Mary Jo thoughtfully supplied tea/coffee, bottled water and a welcoming bottle of wine. The guest house is tucked away behind their own vintage home in a quaint neighborhood, walking distance to historic downtown McKinney. The area was very quiet and Mary Jo and Gary were great hosts--left us to our privacy, yet invited us to spend some time with them on their lovely front porch to enjoy a summer evening.

  • Gary and Mary Jo were exceptional hosts! The guesthouse was comfortable and completely stocked with anything you could possibly need. The A/C was cold and the WiFi was fast. Gary and Mary Jo were kind enough to take us on a Sunday evening stroll through downtown McKinney, which we enjoyed. We definitely recommend their guesthouse to anyone looking for a place to stay.

We enjoy hosting guests in our fully updated 1920's arts & craft-style bungalow. Always enchanted with the historic district, we decided to move to the area after our children were "out of the nest." It is a beautiful neighborhood of older homes and large trees. We enjoy the easy and short walk to McKinney's historic downtown square to dine in the many restaurants and shop at the unique stores. And we always invite friends and guests to relax on the large front porch of our main house. We can also recommend restaurants, sights, shopping and entertainment in McKinney and the Dallas-Ft. Worth area. Please consider a stay at our guest cottage; you won't be disappointed!
