Although little known to Brits and Americans, the Auvergne in the Massif Central has long been popular with the French. In the winter there is downhill skiing at the nearby resorts of Le Mont Dore and Superbesse. Plus plenty of cross country skiing, snow-shoe walking and climbing.
In the summer there is great walking, horse riding, road cycling (the Tour de France went almost past the house in 2011) and mountain biking plus swimming in the lakes or at the superb new swimming pool in La Bourboule, There are also lots of sites to see and special events. And there's also a great golf course at nearby Le Mont Dore.
Throughout the year the food is great and includes local specialities such as Truffade and Potée.
Our house is in 'Le Bourg' the central part of the village, a collection of beautiful old Auvergnian houses with roofs of stone or the traditional oval shaped slates arranged around the village church. However because it's on the edge of the Bourg it's extremely quiet and well away from the road. It is at an altitude of just over 1000 metresand has fantastic views, from the very sunny south-facing front garden, across the valley.
The house has been completely refurbished and tastefully furnished with good pictures, nice old furniture and solid oak floors, staircase and doors. Downstairs there is a very spacious kitchen/diner with French windows giving out onto the sunny front garden. There's also a sitting rom (with 100cm flat-screen TV, DVD player and wifi), a double bedroom and a ground floor bathroom with a walk in shower. On the first floor is the large ensuite master bedroom, a family bathroom and two other double bedrooms including one with access to a balcony and steps down to the back garden. On the third floor are two charming bedrooms under the eaves together with a toilet and wash-basin.

A lovely cosy cottage. Very clean and the fire laid , the beds made perfectly with high quality linen and bath towels. Ceilings at head banging height but there is a bell for your head to hit first. Kitchen large with good facilities although we didn't use the Rayburn. Good internet and a retro telly. Comfy armchairs and sofa. A well cared for garden with small water features with noisy frogs! Church and pub next door. 40yd access drive/lane difficult to negotiate in reverse. Lovely muddy walks . We will book again.
We had a wonderful time at Week Meadow. Fantastic location and really easy to get around from great sea side stops to fantastic walks. There were also lots of places to eat. Had some delicious meals at Rumers and Riverford Field Kitchen (great recommendations!) It was always nice to have a lovely place to come back to. Had some trouble with the wifi which didn't bother us too much as there was lots to do and we didn't want to make too much of a fuss.
Fantastic accommodation with great access to Dartmoor national park. Seamless check in and out, with privacy very much respected. After a long days walk, we were grateful for the underfloor heating, rain shower and fully equipped kitchen- everything you need. Thanks Ben.
Great little cottage in such an adorable village, The local pub was lovely! Really enjoyable experience.
Very lovely cottage with extremely comfortable beds in beautiful South Devon. Great care was taken to renovate the place. The shower was also very nice!
The only thing I would say is to follow the driving instructions provided!! We decided to use the GPS and ended up stuck 400m from the house, 10pm in the evening on a badly maintained "road".
All in all, a great place for a nice weekend getaway :)
A cosy little cottage in a lovely small fishing village. Warm and dry considering it was a cold winter weekend. Although it's on the beach it sadly looks out over an ugly concrete sea-defence between the two. A good pub 3 doors down, and a promising fish shack that was sadly closed when I was there. A great base for cliff-walking and exploring the Hams.
This apartment was great - great location on bustling interesting street (close to the tube station, bus stops, pubs, restaurants, organic markets, coffee shops, etc...!), while still being a quite refuge. The flat was very spacious (light and airy) and well appointed (plenty of room for our party of 4 adults). The artwork, furniture and books made it feel like a home away from home. Ben and local contact Valerie were very easy to contact and responded quickly to any queries.
Lovely cottage located only a short walk from town. The owners were very welcoming and friendly and the cottage has everything you could need for your stay. Will definitely stay again when next visiting Totnes!
Great experience! Ben has taken care to give the renter all the necessary information for a comfortable stay. Everything went as it should have. Great access to wonderful walks and spectacular moor and ocean views. Globe Inn Pub was really a treat and there is no better place for local knowledge. We got a crash course on letter boxing, an historic version of geocaching dating back to 1854 and very much alive and well in Dartmoor in 2014.
We had a brilliant stay over new year at this lovely cottage, its a perfect getaway. Really well equipped and a great location with the community shop and pub close by, great location. Cute and Cosy!
