We absolutely loved our 4 night stay with Mariano. The neighborhood is safe and beautiful, with a nice walk through ruins and only two blocks to the clean, quiet beach. The building is full of character, beautiful furniture and Art. The Casandra room was perfect and so picturesque, I loved waking up and laying in the hammock watching the curtains blow in the breeze. Every morning, Bella greeted us with the warmest smile and was patient with our language barrier while she prepared incredible breakfasts. We will be highly recommending Tambuuco to friends!
When I booked this place I decided I would be happy if it was only half as nice as the pictures--but it's even nicer than that! Besides a gorgeous room in one of the more incredible homes in Playacar, Mariano and his staff are always ready to help--and make for very friendly and interesting breakfast companions. The breakfasts, by the way, involve multiple courses and are delicious. Perfect especially if you want to be nearish to Playa del Carmen's main drag, but not in it. Can't recommend enough.
My brother and I had a lovely experience in Mariano’s home. The location is very convenient, as the home is in a nice gated community, two minutes from the beach and about a 10 minute walk to the main part of town. Our room was spacious and well designed; it stayed cool even under the hot Mexican sun (we didn't need to use the AC most days). The home itself is charming, with a rustic, yet worldly feel. Each morning’s breakfast was also a lovely way to try some Mexican home cooking. Most importantly, Mariano was an excellent host. He was always at hand to share a good restaurant recommendation, book to read, or story, and proved to be a very interesting and hospitable guy. Ultimately, staying here was a very intimate way to experience Playa del Carmen – as opposed to a large resort – and I highly recommend it.
The place was unique, and the room was beautiful! It was a very short walk to the beach with its amazing white sand and blue water! Yes, yes, I'm gushing, but this place deserves it. Oh, and did I mention the AC is arctic? That's important when it gets as humid as it did during our stay. The only negative at all is that the wifi can be sporadic sometimes.
Mr. Lozano is a kind and gracious host. His home has a warm and welcoming feeling to it. He took the time to call our transport service to reconfirm our ride back to the Cancun airport, because we didn't bring our cell phones with us. Bella, the house keeper, is a doll of a woman and a terrific cook. She made our bed the gave us clean towels every day. Her son came to the house and sold us a tour to the Xplor adventure park. That added a nice personal touch. The beach was a 2 minute walk and the neighborhood is a very upscale and well kept development . We walked home at night several times and never felt unsafe. I would highly recommend Mariano's B&B. We had a terrific time.
Excellent host and excellent home to stay in. We wanted a tasteful and simple house instead of a shiny condo or hotel, and that is exactly what we got. The house is full of character and you really immerse in the experience. Feels completely non commercial and away from the hustle and bustle, yet it is only steps from 5th avenue and the beach. High ceilings, lots of natural light, full of white noises of birds chirping, waves, and the breeze. Loved it and strongly recommend it.
My girlfriend and I had a wonderful stay at Casa Tambuco and hope to do it again! Great room, great breakfasts, Mariano is a great host. Very convenient location to the town and beach. You won't be disappointed.

After living in the post-jet set Acapulco, I wanted a change of sea.
And while I was searching, I found this corner of the Caribbean; this place that bewitched me with its history and its air of mystery. And here is where I built my new “old” house. I made it of stone and very spacious, and I brought with me memories and my old family furniture.
I hired a good cook so I could lavish attention on my friends and the friends of my friends. And that is what I have been doing here for the past 15 years.
