Far-removed from the core of the city, Barra da Tijuca exchanges Rio de Janeiro’s traditional apartments and villas for chic condominiums and mega malls. This glass-towered neighborhood borrows its entertainment éclat from cosmopolitan hotspots like Miami, USA. Primped socialites gather in Barra da Tijuca’s glamorous boutiques and glitzy nightclubs. Its beauty goes beyond skin-deep—this neighborhood boasts scenic mountain vistas, the city’s longest stretch of beach, and the notoriety of being South America’s first city to host the Summer Olympics in 2016.
Staying on an island was a great experience, the neighbors are very nice. Vinicius' house has everything one can need, the place is quite and calm and plenty of privacy. Barra da Tijuca has a nice beach and is about 20 minutes walking from Vinicius' place.
A realy nice place, just the internet connection was not constant. But it was clean, safe and a great neighborhood.
Living on an Island is a great way to experience something different. The boat taxi takes only 30 seconds to get across and only costs 80 cents! Vivicius was a great host and met all expectations. The directions to find the place were perfect and someone was there to meet me when I arrived.
Living on an Island in the middle of Rio de Janiero is amazing, taking a short 20 second boat ride back and forth to the city is even better! The people on the island are friendly and helpful. A neighbor even lent me their wine bottle opener and then invited me to have dinner with their family. The general location of the island in Barra is ideal because the closest beaches are the most beautiful which you can easily walk to. Also, the island's boat dock is located on the main road to Ipanema, Copacabana or the main Shopping District in Barra with inexpensive air-conditioned buses passing every 5 minutes. I didn't have to waste money on taxis the entire trip which probably saved me hundreds of dollars. The design of the actual home is a 2 story townhouse/duplex which is perfect for sharing with another person or renting the entire home for 2 couples or a family with children because it is a split roommate floor plan so you have privacy from the others. The main common living area is on the first floor with a fully stocked kitchen, a separate laundry room with washer and a place to dry your clothes, a living room, dining room and a second bathroom which is nice. Both of the bedrooms upstairs have double beds (enough room for 2 people per bed), televisions with digital cable boxes and ice-cold air conditioning which is a must for a comfortable night's sleep in Brazil. The first floor has sliding glass doors that walk-out onto a small garden patio which is private due to the high hedges which shields the view from the neighbors. The island has some great small family restaurants from real pizza, hamburgers, seafood, italian to authentic Brazilian cuisine which became my favorite. My best memory and most delicious part of the stay was practicing my Portuguese and eating delicious cheese covered shrimp out of a fresh baked zucchini (no idea what it's called in Portuguese) with a nice old lady who has a small 4 table restaurant IN FRONT of the condo complex. It was the best food on the entire trip and tasted homemade. I now know that I have a Brazilian grandmother waiting for me upon my return to the island. I am an AirBnb host in Colombia and highly recommend this unique island getaway within the city. The question is not should you stay on the island with Vinicius, but should you order "camarão ou salmão" from the nice old lady each night.
I arrived from Russia at a Carnival, and we stayed in a wonderful location on the island, to which you want to travel by boat. This is very interesting! And safe!!!
