House was in perfect condition. Most of the beds were in great condition. The subway and the bus stops were a little far from the house. We enjoy our stay at the house.
Although we never met face-to-face, Tunde was quick to answer our questions and get us set up and checked in. The house was in good shape, had plenty of room for all of us, and met our basic needs. The kitchen lacks some very basic utensils and accessories (strainer, pot-holders, etc..) but the appliances were in working order. The location is convenient to public transport, but is well off the tourist path. This is REAL DC, and while we never felt truly threatened we were very out of place in this neighborhood. I would not recommend staying here with children, and you absolutely don't want to be out on the streets too late. Also, despite claims to the contrary there is not a hot tub at the house.
The house was okay. You can see that the host tried to make the house presentable and acceptable. As any other old house, we encountered some issues like the AC in one of our rooms on the third floor but Tunde fixed it immediately. The shower on the upstairs bathroom as well as the toilet did not work properly. The water was super hot all the time. We had to take showers in the downstairs bathroom. The kitchen was okay however it just needed some essential kitchen tools such as a strainer, plastic bowls and maybe a toaster. It was nice to have a security system in the house due to the fact that the surrounding (neighborhood) was kind of intimidating. The house is by a very busy street and there is a lot of movement, especially at night. Again this is out of the host's control. Our first night will be forever in our thoughts. There was a lot of commotion outside the house that kept us up until 1AM in the morning. The host Tunde was always very polite and respectful. He tried his best to fix some of the issues we encountered at his place. Some of the other issues were out of his reach.
Good : Tunde was very responsive and the apt was in a very good shape as advertised.
Bad : When we first arrived in DC, our party of 8 took 2 cabs from the union station, Both the cab drivers thought we were crazy to rent the apt in this neighborhood. At first we were cautious, but then later in the evening we saw somethings around the house which we were totally uncomfortable with. My family with kids were so scared that i immediately booked residence inn for the night and moved my family to the hotel at 2 pm.
I am not sure if this is an exception but i would definitely advice folks with kids and family to avoid this place.
No air conditioning, chipped paint, garbage piled as high as the back fence!! The topper was went to make coffee the first morning and there was moldy coffee grounds in the top of the coffee maker. Most windows had no screens. Beds were comfortable when it finally cooled down.
Nice place, well maintained, we were a big family and and found Tunde's place very welcoming. He was available all the time we needed him and very very understanding, he made us feel at home and he made sure we have all the necessary basics in the house. Good place to stay if you're looking for peace of mind.
The neighbourhood is a bit rough although we had no problems at all while we were there - within 10 minute walk to subway stations so easy to get to city centre. Taxis are unaware of the neighbourhood and are reluctant to travel there. The master bedroom is at the front of the house so morning commuter traffic is heavy - bring ear plugs. The other bedrooms are quiet. The house is fine and everyone we met was friendly. One morning we decided to walk into the city and it took us about 90 minutes.
Washington DC is coming up very fast with a lot of construction of new houses and offices. There is a big room for improvement in the city. City will always remain cities with all kind of activities.A lot of activities take place every day, the city is getting busier most especially if you are close to the city center.
The house itself is awesome. It has everything you need. Although we never got to meet Tunde but he is really responsive and answers all of our calls promptly whenever we have a question. If you have a car and you can find reasonable parking (there are many) when you travel to those DC attractions, this is your place to stay. You can't have a better deal than this. It even has its own private parking in the back yard of the house, which really eased our mind when we were a little edgy getting to a new place.
But just our opinion, this place is not recommended if you plan to travel around DC using public transportation and walk back to the house from Metro late into the night. Although the security of the house is impeccable, the neighborhood seems questionable. Late night walking around is to be avoided.
But again, if you have a car and are willing to use it for your DC trip, take this place.
Me and my friends stayed at Tunde's property for a weekend trip and we had a great time. The space was clean and spacious. Tunde stopped by to greet us and made sure we were comfortable. There was a half marathon going on right by the house which got noisy but obviously not in Tunde's control.
I would recommend this place to a group of friends who want to have a good time in a nice place..
The pictures on the listing say it all. Tunde's house is decorated wonderfully. The bigscreen LCD TV with DVR in the living room is great, and there is a 2nd one in the main bedroom upstairs. The beds were comfortable. It was quite warm when we visited D.C., so it was a pleasant surprise to find a window airconditioner in 2 of the upstairs bedrooms to keep up with the main A.C., although we had to use an extension cord from the basement computer room for the 2nd A.C. unit... (it wasn't plugged in near an outlet). There is a brand new tall wooden fence around the entire property along with a security system, so even though the neighborhood wasn't all that great... we felt safe, and our vehicles were secure in the back fenced in parking area (up to 4 cars can easily fit in there). There was a new gas stove/oven, and plenty of dishes and silverware. The coffee maker didn't work all that great, and Tunde said he'd get a new one. We did have one major problem, and that was with the water heater. The 2nd day, we awoke to find no hot water and the gas water heater off. I re-lit, and within 20 minutes water was pouring out of the pressure regulator. I called Tunde to explain that we would like a plumber to look at it while we were touring the city. Unfortunately, the house maintenence person didn't show up till we were home. He fiddled with it, and said it was working. 15 minutes later, we had to turn the water heater off because of the overflow from the water heater. We called again, and didn't get it resolved, so everytime we wanted hot water, we had to light the water heater, wait a bit, then turn it off when it started purging hot water from the relief valve. He said he was going to fix this, and being an older home, that could be expected, but it was a big negative having to deal with it. The positives are the price is great, it was great to have 4 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, and a kitchen. We drove into the mall area a few times, and also took the subway (much less stress... and easy to hop on a few minutes up the road from the house). I would definately stay at here again, fully knowing there are a few minor issues, but the price more than makes up for it.
