A beautifull environment with hidden waterfalls, surrounded by nature, with the only little touristic place of the Nort, Lovina, at just a few minutes drive. Its from here easy to explore the underwater world by Menganan or Amed, exotic gardens full of spices by Munduk en Bedugul, traditional culture with temples by Singaraya, Bedugul and the monkey tempel in the west. Spot some dolphins in the Bali sea or swim with the dolpins nearby.
No smoking in the bed rooms and the first floor.
To put it very simply: Villa Shanti is breathtaking, and possibly the most beautiful villa we have stayed in to date in Bali.
The villa is perfectly sized for a group of 4 or 6, with ample spaces for lounging both by the pool and in the recreational area on the second floor. The rooms and bathrooms are not elaborate by Balinese standards, but they are very comfortable and the attention to design and details in the rest of the villa more than makes up for the fact that there is no fancy bathtub and open air shower!
The pool is wonderful and maintains a pleasant warm temperature throughout the day as it receives direct sunlight, and the surrounding gardens are extremely well-maintained. Venture up to the second floor and you will be rewarded with stunning views over the surrounding fields and nearby hills.
As for the staff, we were certainly in very capable hands. Nyoman, the manager and driver, was always willing to assist, and Ketut, the cook, was immensely helpful as well (try her lontong sayur, made from scratch!).
All in all, Villa Shanti is definitely a place to consider. However, do note that it is situated up north, approximately 3 hours from Denpasar Airport. The road there is beautiful, however, as you pass the Bedugul highlands, providing you with the chance to visit Ulu Danu, a temple on the lake, and coffee plantations en route.
If you are looking to party, dine and wine, however, this may not be the place for you. Lovina Beach has its share of nice restaurants, but this pales in comparison to the offerings down south.
In addition, if you are looking for the perfect beach, then you may also be disappointed as the section of Lovina Beach along this stretch of villas is not its prettiest. There is a fair bit of trash, and canals running from the fields.
That aside, I would still recommend Villa Shanti for those looking for a quiet retreat, happy to have home-cooked Indonesian food or even cook for themselves (there is a very well-stock super market in town) for the duration of their stay. It's a beautiful hideaway, and the surrounding views will introduce you to a completely different side of Bali.
The Villa was incredible! Amazing views and a fabulous garden. It is a bit remote and would be great for a honemoon or a party of friends staying.
Ketut and the rest of the staff were all great!
We checked out one day earlier to go to a better beach, as the water was a bit dirty during to the raining season.
Marja was very helpful and nice.
Would recommend to anyone going to Bali!
Theo, Marja and our daughter Zoë. In 2007 we moved to Bali with our 8-year-old daughter. Life in another country, living in a tropical climate, but above all may live and stay in a villa on the beach of Lovina Beach in Northern Bali is a dream for everyone, but for us as a family a reality. Living close to the Bali Sea, see how the magic colors of skies over the sea every day change. Strange birds of all colors, butterflies with different shapes and sizes, indoor plants in the garden, fresh coconut at our own tree. Everything is different, but normal life goes on and Zoë attends school. A local Indonesian school where she will be the only white, blue-eyed student for almost 4 years. Curious about all her experiences click here.
