About this listing
Get off Duval and experience natural Florida Keys! My house is located in a quiet neighborhood on Big Pine Key on an acre lot and the three lots adjacent to mine are owned by the Department of Environmental Protection and so will never be developed. Lots of wildlife can be viewed, including key deer, box turtles, lizards, geckos, snakes, and many species of birds. There are also lots of places to go nearby for bike rides and long walks. I am a biologist and I’d gladly talk to you about the local wildlife.
I have two rooms to rent out. This listing is for the flower room, but check out the bamboo room in my other listing. The flower room has a brand new KING size bed! The two rooms share a bathroom (bathroom now has a big beautiful open shower- there is no tub anymore); I have my own. You are welcome to use the fridge, cook in the kitchen, and use the laundry facilities, but keep in mind that I live there too, so please clean up after yourself. Available to you are my spices, condiments, and other basics like sugar and olive oil. I will provide bagels, bread for toast, and coffee for my guests to prepare at their leisure. You are also welcome to borrow my two bikes, two kayaks and a kit to transport them (fits most cars), 2 beach chairs, two yoga mats, and snorkel gear for a medium sized woman. Although I am not on a canal, there is plenty of room in the yard for a boat/trailer. * I fully intend to return deposit, but it's just in case I need to replace something due to carelessness (without I have no recourse). Also, I probably won't take 2 day reservations many months in advance- to make hosting easier on me, I prefer to take longer reservations and then fill in with shorter reservations a month or two out. Lastly, I've had a few complaints about the AC being noisy, so that's something to consider if you are a very light sleeper.**if there is a hurricane during your stay, I may have to require that you evacuate and I will refund your money (you are also welcome to cancel if we are under serious threat, and I will refund fully)

-Shut the gate and ensure the posts are securely in the fence post holes, otherwise the key deer will break in and eat all my plantings! This is the most important rule!!
-Equally important rule- DO NOT TAKE THE KEY WITH YOU. Leave it where you found it so that guests of both rooms have access to it. **violation of either of the first two rules may cost you your deposit.
-No party people...beer and wine are fine as long as it's not excessive.
-I will take care of washing towels and sheets and vacuuming; beyond that, please clean up after yourselves.
-Please turn off all lights if you are the last one in.
-Recycle (blue bin on porch) and compost (white container next kitchen sink) as much as you can and only use biodegradable laundry soup
-Wash your sandy feet with the hose outside, not in the shower- it's a total pain to clean a sandy shower.
-Fireplace is capped off and not intended for use- smoke WILL NOT flow out. Do NOT use fireplace.
Perfect place! Although it was a last minute booking, Kerry was very helpful with her soon response. Her house is beautiful and just what we needed to spend couple of nights and get some rest to travel around key west! Even the fact that there are deers around her neighborhood make our trip more beautiful! Thank you Kerry! We definitely recommend this place :)
Kerry has a wonderful home and is a gracious host. I highly recommend those that are looking for a beautiful home in the area to stay with Kerry. Her home is decorated so nicely and the modern upgrades she has made are a nice touch. Kerry makes all her guests feel welcome.
I did not meet Kerry personally. She allowed myself and one other couple to use her house while she was out of town. She extended her welcome by providing all the information I would need via email. The Flower bedroom was exactly as advertised with a very colorful decor and comfortable bed. Her kitchen was well supplied and her balcony overlooking the property was a great place to take meals. No TV service was provided, making my stay one of the quietest and most relaxing of this vacation. The neighborhood was quiet and enjoyable.
My experience with Kerry was a true delight. The house was beautiful, the room was extremely quiet and clean, and the bathroom was also great. Kerry is a wonderful host. She generously invites guests to enjoy her porch, bikes, the kitchen and even the washer. She will tell you the best places to go and be helpful in every way.
You will certainly enjoy staying with her!
Danke Kerry !
The listing was extremely accurate. Kerry was super inviting and friendly. She would answer any and all questions one would have and has some great suggestions of places to visit and restaurants to go to. Well organized, she made planning our trip easy and fun. The house is beautiful and we loved the decorations, very tropical themed. The neighborhood is quiet and away from everything. She lives near the Key Deer Refuge but you see more deer around where she lives than in the actual refuge. Every time we left her house and came back at night, we saw key deer on the sides of the roads, it was awesome! So many lizards around too! This is the best place to stay in the Keys. Big Pine Key is right in the middle so you can take awesome day trips to Key West and Marathon as well as there being plenty to do on Big Pine. No Name Pub was a great place to go on Big Pine Key for dinner and drinks and it's a 5 minute drive. Kerry is such a nice lady and these accommodations are worth every penny! We wish we could have stayed longer!

About the Host, Kerry
I am a marine biologist living in the Florida Keys. I love it down here and recently bought a house...so I won't be leaving any time soon. I hope to share my home with others. I trust they will enjoy the Keys as much as I do! I have been really enjoying meeting all of my lovely guests and sending them off to my favorite restaurants, bars, and tourist destinations. I love to travel to a location where someone I know can help guide me to have the best possible vacation, so it's fun for me to try to do the same for my guests. A few of my favorite activities include ultimate frisbee, SCUBA diving, biking, jogging, kayaking, gardening, traveling, and making dinner with friends.
