Who we are:
Adam and Jen are your hosts. Adam works a government job by day and makes custom hardwood furniture by night and weekend; Jen is a Physician Assistant by day and has built a beautiful garden in our yard, sews, and does all sorts of crafty things. Our dog, Britta, loves people; but she does not have access to your space. If you don't love dogs, we can arrange to ensure you don't have any contact with her (like when you come to the front door).
We have wireless internet (password provided upon check in); there is a TV and a Roku player for streaming Netflix/Pandora in the room...but we do not have cable, just a few network channels
If you're driving, let us know and we can work out a parking pass, or perhaps put you in our space (if you have a small car).
The washer/dryer are just through the door into our basement...if you need to use them, we can arrange that.
Fresh towels will be in the bathroom for you at arrival
Shampoo/conditioner/bodywash/hairdryer are located under the sink in the bathroom
If you have questions about availability just send us a quick note!
Guests have a private entrance to the room, access to their own TV, Fridge, bathroom, and microwave. Wireless internet is available with Netflix and Pandora streaming through the TV via Roku. Upon request, we can provide access to the washer/dryer. Guests staying over 1 week may be provided access, when possible, to the kitchen.
Interaction with Guests
We love to meet our guests and occasionally chat with them between their trips. We are happy to answer any questions and fulfill reasonable requests. Occasionally, guests join us for a drink or participate in small gatherings at our home. Otherwise, we assume most guests choose our listing so they can have a unique experience and their own space; but if you want to hang out, just let us know!
Our neighborhood is unique: we are between two bustling areas (H ST NE and Eastern Market). Both of those areas are full of restaurants, bars, shops, and positive urban energy. Our block, and the ones immediately adjacent, are home to quiet families who enjoy the nearby amenities, but also the relative tranquility of our flower and vegetable gardens.
If you rent a car, you may find it convenient to leave it parked at our place and take one of many public transportation options. We are very close to the D6 and X8 bus lines, which will take you downtown, near the monuments, or to Union Station, where you can take the metro nearly anywhere you want to go. We are also just 1 block away from a large bikeshare station. If you're unfamiliar with bikeshare programs, we encourage you to (website hidden) "Capital Bikeshare" and see what it is all about. In nice weather, it is a great way to experience the city (that is, if you're comfortable on bicycles).
We have a few maps in the room, but have found many guests bring their own, or prefer to use a mobile device to navigate.
1. Please communicate: let us know what you need, when you'll be arriving/leaving, etc.
2. No smoking
3. No pets
This is a safe, urban neighborhood--kids play outside with minimal supervision, people are generally friendly, and you can walk to bars and restaurants without trepidation. However, it is a city neighborhood--please be careful at night, do not leave valuables in your car, and pay attention to your surroundings.
Jen and I have odd schedules and curiosities about our jobs you may not be used to. Jen works in a hospital, so she is sometimes home during the day, and sometimes works nights. When she is at work, she often does not carry her mobile phone. Adam does not have his mobile phone available at work. As such, we may not be immediately available should something come up during your visit. However, we will do everything we can to make sure you have the information and resources you need to have a great stay and figure out any obstacles that may arise.
I visited during February, so the weather was not very good. My second day a storm hit and dumped 10 inches of snow on the city. Government shut down, as did the Smithsonian. I got a text from Adam and Jen suggesting alternative things to do, which was helpful.
Some of the reviews have mentioned noise. My arrival the first night was delayed, so I'm not sure Adam and Jen knew I was downstairs. The noise coming from a dog, two kids and several adults reverberated throughout the room. I considered going to a hotel, but then I logged onto Airbnb and read some of the other reviews. I noticed one that said it would quiet down at around 9:30, and it did.
The rest of my stay was quiet. The noise of the first night was not repeated again. I guess they herded the kids and dog upstairs to the second floor or something.
Overall this is a nice unit, and I had a nice stay. It is very clean, and everything works properly. The space would benefit if it had a workspace, as there is no desk. Other than that, it is perfect.
Sorry about the noise on the first night...but your assumption was correct--we had no idea you had arrived....we had dinner guests (with kids) and simply would have moved to a different room had we known you were there. Thanks for the note about a workspace...I've been meaning to get a folding table in there for a while, and this is a good reminder...
We had an amazing stay in Adam and Jen's apartment - we were made to feel very welcome and communication throughout our trip was excellent. The apartment is warm, comfortable and well-equipped, a real home from home. I would definitely recommend to others and if we go back to DC would love to stay with Jen and Adam again. Thanks for having us!
Adam and Jen were helpful and considerate and nonintrusive. The flat is comfortable and private - a lovely haven, and just what I needed after a busy weekend. The neighbourhood is quiet and feels safe, but not too far or expensive to get downtown, and as an English person I found the varied types of housing charming. I had breakfast in a cafe a couple of streets away (although I could have used the supplies, oatmeal and so on, left by Adam and Jen) and that was nice too. I have no criticisms whatsoever.
Adam and Jen were great hosts. We only had the opportunity to meet Adam, and he was very nice-recommended some great places to check out. The room was very clean, and the neighborhood felt very safe. This was our first time using Airbnb, and I'm afraid Adam and Jen set the bar really high as far as hosts go!
Great place and great hosts!
Lots of snacks and drinks were provided. Clean room and a comfortable bed.
On the final day of our stay, our flight back home left late. Adam and Jen allowed us to store our bags after checkout while we spent more time at the museums. Thank you!
We had a great stay at Adam and Jen's place. The appartment was very clean and everything we needed was there. It was located in a very safe and nice neighbourhood in DC. I would definitely recommend staying here.
Adam and Jen were very hospitable and very helpful during my stay there - given that there was a pending "blizzard". The space was also great, and ideal for a person by themselves or a couple. Lots of little things were taken care of.
We LOVE living here. We like meeting new people, enjoying the outdoors, being creative and crafty, and seizing the day.
We hope to provide you with a comfortable place to explore the city--we'd love to help you get around and enjoy your time here as much as we do.
