Suite of rooms is a relatively tranquil, cozy retreat in our bustling national capital. Private entrance, microwave, fridge, TV with streaming netflix, and private bath. Blocks away from public transit, a variety of restaurants, and bars.

The Space

Welcome to the nation's capital--we love it here and we want to help you enjoy it too!
The Space:
New Queen size bed with clean sheets/duvet cover/towels for each new guest.

A spacious efficiency, basement apartment complete with a private bathroom, mini-fridge, microwave and Keurig single cup coffee maker.

We'll provide some drinks and a few snacks to get you going as well as tea and coffee you can make in the room

The location:
We have a beautiful corner lot row house in NE Capitol Hill, a few blocks from the budding H ST NE neighborhood. We are close to multiple bike share racks (one block to the closest) about a mile/2km to the Capitol building, Union Station, and Eastern Market, respectively

Who we are:
Adam and Jen are your hosts. Adam works a government job by day and makes custom hardwood furniture by night and weekend; Jen is a Physician Assistant by day and has built a beautiful garden in our yard, sews, and does all sorts of crafty things. Our dog, Britta, loves people; but if you don't love dogs, we can arrange to ensure she doesn't get in your way.

What else you should know:
Adam's woodshop is adjacent to the room...don't worry, he doesn't work too late (not past 8pm, not before 10am, and often not even with noisy power tools). Besides, we added some sound proofing to the adjacent wall. We can work out arrangements if you have particular sensitivities or needs on this front.

Other amenities:
We have wireless internet (password provided upon check in); there is a TV and a Roku player for streaming Netflix/Pandora in the room...but we do not have cable, just a few network channels

If you're driving, let us know and we can work out a parking pass, or perhaps put you in our space (if you have a small car).

The washer/dryer are just through the door into our basement...if you need to use them, we can arrange that.

Fresh towels will be in the bathroom for you at arrival

Shampoo/conditioner/bodywash/hairdryer are located under the sink in the bathroom

If you have questions about availability just send us a quick note!

Guest Access

Guests have a private entrance to the room, access to their own TV, Fridge, bathroom, and microwave. Wireless internet is available with Netflix and Pandora streaming through the TV via Roku. Upon request, we can provide access to the washer/dryer. Guests staying over 1 week may be provided access, when possible, to the kitchen.

Interaction with Guests

We love to meet our guests and occasionally chat with them between their trips. We are happy to answer any questions and fulfill reasonable requests. Occasionally, guests join us for a drink or participate in small gatherings at our home. Otherwise, we believe most guests choose our listing so they can have a unique experience and their own space.

The Neighborhood

Our neighborhood is unique: we are between two bustling areas (H ST NE and Eastern Market). Both of those areas are full of restaurants, bars, shops, and positive urban energy. Our block, and the ones immediately adjacent, are home to quiet families who enjoy the nearby amenities, but also the relative tranquility of our flower and vegetable gardens.

Getting around

If you rent a car, you may find it convenient to leave it parked at our place and take one of many public transportation options. We are very close to the D6 and X8 bus lines, which will take you downtown, near the monuments, or to Union Station, where you can take the metro nearly anywhere you want to go. We are also just 1 block away from a large bikeshare station. If you're unfamiliar with bikeshare programs, we encourage you to (website hidden) "Capital Bikeshare" and see what it is all about. In nice weather, it is a great way to experience the city (that is, if you're comfortable on bicycles).

We have a few maps in the room, but have found many guests bring their own, or prefer to use a mobile device to navigate.

  • We loved everything about our stay with Adam and Jen. We arrived earlier than planned but Adam was home to greet us and let us into the apartment. And what a lovely apartment! Lots of space, spotless, lots of goodies( tea, coffee, cookies etc) a good size tv with cable, coffee/drinks maker and microwave and fridge. Lovely bathroom too, with everything anyone could possibly need. Adam and Jen also gave lots of advice about local shopping and restaurants and checked up we were ok with email. Perfect! The apartment gave us a great night's sleep also helped by knowing our car was parked safely offroad. Two bus stops within a few minutes' walk get you to Union station quickly and then onto the metro. It is a great neighborhood, everyone we met was so friendly. We really hope we will be back before too long for another stay.

  • Jen and Adam were great hosts. I happened to be suffering from a bad cold while visiting and Adam was very helpful in assisting me in finding a doctor. The space itself was quiet, comfortable, and easily accessible via public transportation. The one thing I would say is that you should be aware that their home isn't very close to the national mall or the major museums, so if that's what you're looking for this might not be the best space for you. Having said that, it was only about 20 minutes or so via bus to those areas.

    Response from Adam And Jen:

Anthony--hope you're feeling better! I hope the location was not a surprise...as the description states, we're about 1 mile from the capitol building (western edge of the national mall). Many guests do walk (or bike) to the museums/monuments from here...

  • Jen was awesome, super helpful. Adam was working in the yard so I never really had any contact with him. The location was perfect for the event I had to attend so I could just walk. There were snacks and drinks in the fridge. The place was very clean and they even loaned me an iron/board.

  • Our stay was really short, but we enjoy our time in Adam and Jen place. They are so nice and our room was clean and comfortable.

  • We only stayed in this apartment one night during a stopover in D.C. The apartment was well equipped, and the hosts had provided snacks, drinks, coffee maker, filtered water and shampoo, to mention just a few of the thoughtful touches. The bathroom and efficiency bedroom were clean and pleasant. Jen and Adam were friendly and available! We hope to be able to stay longer next time and explore the neighborhood.

  • We just loved it here! This is the perfect place to enjoy Washington.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 5 days.

Adam and Jen are very attentive hosts. They made sure that we had everything we needed and helped us finding the closests restaurants, supermarkets and so on.

The apartment is in the basement of the house and has a seperate entrance, that means you are totally independend and both -guests and hosts- have their privacy.

The apartment is very clean and well kept. They provided a mini fridge filled with a lot of beverages, a basket with sweets and a coffee maker with coffee.
    We felt very welcomed!

The neighbourhood is very nice. It is a safe and quiet residential area. You have a lot of bars, cafes and restaurants in walking distance. There is also a bike station very close, where you can rent bikes instead of taking the car or bus to go to town. This is a very convenient way to explore the city!

We definitly recommend this place to stay in Washington. It was a great experience staying at Adams and Jens!

  • We spent a very good night at Adam and Jen's house ! The room was very nice and clean ! Besides the fresh drinks were very welcomed after a walking day :)

  • Adam and Jen were extremely friendly and helpful during our two night stay in their cosy apartment. We were provided information on the local area and recommendations on how to use our time in lovely D.C. We only wish we'd had longer! Adam and Jen generously offered to assist us with a couple of issues we experienced in D.C. (including a lost mobile phone) - gestures which were greatly appreciated!
The apartment itself is cosy but perfect for our short stay. All furniture and amenities are in great condition and working order, and we had no issues at all.
Thanks Adam & Jen for having us!

  • The day trip we took was awesome. Adam and Jen were very accommodating and rather nice. The house and little efficiency style space they rent is awesome. The ceiling was tall enough for a 6'3 guy and the neighborhood was great, seems like its just a big community even though its as large of a place as DC. Taking the subway/bud and walking/biking is the only way to get around the city but that's rather refreshing. If youre planning a trip to DC let these people be your host, me and my girlfriend loved it.
