Natural living in the Keys-Bamboo

House - Private room · Pinewood Ln, Big Pine Key, FL 33043, United States

The Space

Get off Duval and experience natural Florida Keys! My house is located in a quiet neighborhood on Big Pine Key on an acre lot and the three lots adjacent to mine are owned by the Department of Environmental Protection and so will never be developed. Lots of wildlife can be viewed, including key deer, box turtles, lizards, geckos, snakes, and many species of birds. There are also lots of places to go nearby for bike rides and long walks. I am a biologist and I’d gladly talk to you about the local wildlife.
I have two rooms to rent out. This listing is for the bamboo room, but check out the flower room in my other listing. The bamboo room has a queen sized bed. You are welcome to use the fridge, cook in the kitchen, and use the laundry facilities, but keep in mind that I live there too, so please clean up after yourself. Available to you are my spices, condiments, and other basics like sugar and olive oil. I will provide bagels, bread for toast, and coffee for my guests to prepare at their leisure. You are also welcome to borrow my two bikes, two kayaks and a kit to transport them (fits most cars), 2 beach chairs, two yoga mats, and snorkel gear for a medium sized woman. Although I am not on a canal, there is plenty of room in the yard for a boat/trailer. * I fully intend to return deposit, but it's just in case I need to replace something due to carelessness (without I have no recourse).

  • It was a really nice stay the rooms were clean and especially the porch was a perfect location for the breakfast and a barbecue with her new Weber Grill. Thank you Kerry!

  • The Bamboo Room was a wonderful place to stay while visiting the Florida Keys. The beautiful, quiet location, situated on Big Pine Key, was a a perfect place to escape the crowds of spring break tourists. There were wonderful parks in the area, and the availability of bikes and kayaks for guests to use was a great bonus. We really enjoyed exploring the local area and learning about the local plants and wildlife.

The house itself is comfortable and tastefully decorated, with a well-stocked kitchen and spacious eating area in the screened-in veranda. The property was also lovely, with well-manicured gardens, with lots of flowers and shade-providing trees.

Kerry was a great host! She was very friendly and provided lots of excellent information about things to see and do in the Keys. I look forward to visiting again in the future and highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a quieter place to stay in the busy Florida Keys.

  • Kerry's place is a lovely, quiet retreat at "the end of the road" on Big Pine Key, one of the Lower Keys that is not commercially overdeveloped and crowded. Kerry's advance communication, e-mailed/printed guide to the house and the area, and her friendliness in person were all thoughtful, business-like yet very warm. The surrounding veranda, available bicycles and other amenities, garden/lawn, and open kitchen all added to the enjoyment of the place. [Admittedly, the Bamboo Room itself is pretty small and can get a little stuffy with only one window and the A/C does not cool it as well as it does the house in general, but the overhead fan helps keep it tolerable and mostly pleasant. It, like the whole house, is brightly and tastefully decorated]. We enjoyed the surrounding Lower and Middle Keys, though Key West itself was a bit hard to take as March is college student spring break on top of peak tourist season -- so we mostly stayed away from there. :-) Highly recommend this place!

  • Kerry was a perfect host and the house was delightful. We especially liked the huge screened porch. The other guests were also a treat. Can't wait to go back!

  • Nice home! Saw deers at sunset when we arrived and early mornings when we took off!

  • I had a quick stay in the Keys and spent two nights at Kerry's place. She's a gracious host, provided everything I needed, and the room was more than comfortable. This was my first AirBnb experience and it set the bar high. Thanks!

  • Kerry's house is a pleasure to stay at not only because it is spacious and well appointed, but also because you get the sense of what it's like to live on the island, in a regular little neighborhood. The bed is comfortable and she is an easy hostess, even at the height of tourist season. We would definitely come again.

  • Comfortable, quaint, quiet and clean! Super cute house, authentic Keys style, just a short drive from Key West. Kerry was the perfect hostess, provided great local info and suggestions. We will definitely return.

I am a marine biologist living in the Florida Keys. I love it down here and recently bought a I won't be leaving any time soon. I hope to share my home with others. I trust they will enjoy the Keys as much as I do! I have been really enjoying meeting all of my lovely guests and sending them off to my favorite restaurants, bars, and tourist destinations. I love to travel to a location where someone I know can help guide me to have the best possible vacation, so it's fun for me to try to do the same for my guests. A few of my favorite activities include ultimate frisbee, SCUBA diving, biking, jogging, kayaking, gardening, traveling, and making dinner with friends.
