About this listing
Get off Duval and experience natural Florida Keys! My house is located in a quiet neighborhood on Big Pine Key on an acre lot and the three lots adjacent to mine are owned by the Department of Environmental Protection and so will never be developed. Lots of wildlife can be viewed, including key deer, box turtles, lizards, geckos, snakes, and many species of birds. There are also lots of places to go nearby for bike rides and long walks. I am a biologist and I’d gladly talk to you about the local wildlife.
I have two rooms to rent out. This listing is for the bamboo room, but check out the flower room in my other listing. The bamboo room has a queen sized bed. The two rooms share a bathroom
(bathroom now has a big beautiful open shower- there is no tub anymore); I have my own. You are welcome to use the fridge, cook in the kitchen, and use the laundry facilities, but keep in mind that I live there too, so please clean up after yourself. Available to you are my spices, condiments, and other basics like sugar and olive oil. I will provide bagels, bread for toast, and coffee for my guests to prepare at their leisure. You are also welcome to borrow my two bikes, two kayaks and a kit to transport them (fits most cars), 2 beach chairs, two yoga mats, and snorkel gear for a medium sized woman. Although I am not on a canal, there is plenty of room in the yard for a boat/trailer. * I fully intend to return deposit, but it's just in case I need to replace something due to carelessness (without I have no recourse). Also, I probably won't take 2 day reservations many months in advance- to make hosting easier on me, I prefer to take longer reservations and then fill in with shorter reservations a month or two out. Lastly, I've had a few complaints about the AC being noisy, so that's something to consider if you are a very light sleeper.
Interaction with Guests
I'll be around.
you pretty much need a car to stay at this house.
-Shut the gate and ensure the posts are securely in the fence post holes, otherwise the key deer will break in and eat all my plantings! This is the most important rule!!
-Equally important rule- DO NOT TAKE THE KEY WITH YOU. Leave it where you found it so that guests of both rooms have access to it. **violation of either of the first two rules may cost you your deposit.
-No party people...beer and wine are fine as long as it's not excessive.
-I will take care of washing towels and sheets and vacuuming; beyond that, please clean up after yourselves.
-Please turn off all lights if you are the last one in.
-Recycle (blue bin on porch) and compost (white container next kitchen sink) as much as you can and only use biodegradable laundry soup
-Wash your sandy feet with the hose outside, not in the shower- it's a total pain to clean a sandy shower.
-Fireplace is capped off and not intended for use- smoke WILL NOT flow out. Do NOT use fireplace.
Kerry communicated with us by email and phone. We rented the bamboo room which looks just like the foto. We enjoyed the lovely house and grounds. Kerry was very accommodating as were her other guests.
Kerry was a great host and as indicated did indeed make banana bread! Her place was clean and as advertised. The guest bathroom is beautiful and room was comfortable. The yard was a veritable tropic garden with all sorts of fruit trees. The location has a grocery store within 5 minutes and the No-name Pub is also a great place to eat and very close by. We had a great experience with Kerry and would definitely stay with her again.
We had a great time with Kerry. Her house is beautiful and even though she was busy she took care of everything we needed. Would totally rent her room again!!
Amazing experience! Kerry's place is ideally located, in a very quiet place. The house is very clean and bedroom was very nice (pictures are very representative).
Kerry is a very nice person and gave us a lot of useful advices and was willing to help for anything.
I would definitely highly recommend to stay at her place
Kerry let us use her kitchen, had breakfast in the fridge for us and provided us with lots of helpful information. We recommend kayaking at big pine key.
Kerry's home is a great place stay. This is our first time using Airbnb and it was a great experience. It is comfortable and clean. We hope to stay with her again! Thank you Kerry!
We did not meet Kerry unfortunately during our stay. We stayed for 2 nights at her place. All communications were easy and clear. Her house is tucked away in Big Pine - really quiet area. We had a great time. Location was perfect for us. And Kerry has many useful tips and suggestions for exploring the Keys- those were really helpful !

About the Host, Kerry
I am a marine biologist living in the Florida Keys. I love it down here and recently bought a house...so I won't be leaving any time soon. I hope to share my home with others. I trust they will enjoy the Keys as much as I do! I have been really enjoying meeting all of my lovely guests and sending them off to my favorite restaurants, bars, and tourist destinations. I love to travel to a location where someone I know can help guide me to have the best possible vacation, so it's fun for me to try to do the same for my guests. A few of my favorite activities include ultimate frisbee, SCUBA diving, biking, jogging, kayaking, gardening, traveling, and making dinner with friends.
