(Not shared space) Full use of a private and separate 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom fully furnished and equipped apartment just one block from the blue and orange line metro and grocery store and within a quick 6 block walk (approx 10 minute walk) to Eastern Market, award winning restaurants, bars, and parks. The apartment is a 2 metro stop or a leisurely 15-20 minute walk to the US Capitol, the Supreme Court, the Library of Congress, and the National Botanical Gardens. Additionally, it is located in walking distance to The Yards Park and the National's Stadium. The Smithsonian and the most of the DC monuments are within 4-6 metro stops on the same metro line (blue and orange).
This is a separate 2BR, 2BA sunny English garden apartment in our home with its own private front patio. Inviting, serene, renovated and spacious with all the amenities that you need for your stay: fully equipped kitchen, flat screen TV with Direct TV and DVD in the living room, washer and dryer, and separate dining area. The apartment features a front bedroom that has a full size bed and a back bedroom that hosts a queen size bed, bamboo floors, tasteful decor, upscale linens, and a festive, inviting, shared outdoor space. The layout is such that the bedrooms and baths are located on opposite sides of the living space to maximize privacy for guests. A portable twin bed is available upon request.
We are only 1 block away from Capitol Bike Share - it's a fun and easy way to get around DC - and available for daily rentals at $7 a day. Very popular with locals and tourists alike. We also have multiple zip cars with in a 1-2 block radius. The Yards Park is a great place to play and picnic and is not well known among tourists. It hosts weekly outdoor movies (on Thursdays) in the summer and weekly (on Fridays) live music events from May - August. Eastern Market, 6 blocks away - an easy walk, is a famous institution. It is open 6 days a week as a historic market that hosts a baker, a fishmonger, a butcher, a florist, a grocer among other shops, but on the weekends, it hosts an outdoor farmers market, a huge flea market, and an artist's market - an amazing place to explore, people watch, and venue to discover great finds, great foods, and great non-traditional souvenirs and gifts. We are also within biking, jogging, metro, or walking distance from the award winning Results Gym, Capitol Hill that is in a converted historic school. If you want to keep your workout routine while on vacation or on an extended stay, access can be arranged at cost. Each day visit there is $15. The gym has multiple classes, award winning locker rooms with dry and wet sauna and jacuzzi, a rock-climbing wall, extensive free weights and machines, and basket ball and racket ball courts.
Our family of 4 lives in the unit above and though well insulated, some noise is audible between floors (not voices or music but heavy footsteps). Metro access is so easy, Regan International Airport - a fast cab ride or metro ride away. We can arrange off-street parking. We are perfectly located for a unique and fun visit to our nation's capital!
Please note that the lack of reviews is due to the fact that many of our guests stay for extended periods - up to 2 months and through other venues. We are exactly as pictured, one block to 2 metro lines, and well located on Capitol Hill.

We just got back from our family vacation in Washington DC. Crystal's apartment was lovely, and had plenty of room for our family of five. The Metro was just a block down and was an easy ride to all the sights, and there was a grocery store just around the corner. We rented a car, but only used it the day we went out to the Smithsonian hanger at Dullas Airport. There was an unexpected snow storm the day after we arrived. The entire city was shut down, but Crystal was great, giving us ideas for things we could do anyway, and offering to loan us DVDs. She was also good with advice for nearby restaurants and touring ideas. We will defiantly stay here again when we return!
The reservation was canceled 46 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
My friends and I needed a place to stay while we were visiting D.C. and this was a perfect fit- the apartment is spacious and fit the four of us nicely. The location was ideal too- away from the really busy areas of downtown D.C., but close enough to walk to the Capitol and Eastern Market. The apartment was well equipped- we had fun staying in and making dinner with ingredients we brought back from Eastern Market. And Crystal and her family were great about giving us local recommendations- the Ethiopian place they suggested was delicious.
Wow! just about sums it up, but for those of you who'd like the specifics, read on.
Clean, in every detail.
Conveniently located, with metro and bus stops and a well stocked grocery store with in a block or two. Walking distance to many Capitol Hill locations as well, in good weather.
Comfortable. A queen Tempurpedic bed in one bedroom and a comfortable double in the other. My daughter (the princess of Princess and the Pea fame) slept on the very clever sofa bed in the living room and proclaimed it as comfortable as a regular bed.(Imagine!) The fact that there were two bedrooms, and that the, ahem, snoratorium was at a distance from the other two sleeping areas worked well for us. So did having two bathrooms.
Well stocked. You could cook an actual meal here! (We didn't have time to on this trip, but it's nice to know for future reference.) Also, we got to the apartment in the wee, small hours of the morning, after two days of living in the same clothes and with no known sightings of our bags. We almost hugged the washer and dryer. We actually thought we were going to have to wear those same jeans to our son's wedding, only a few hours later, so at least they were going to be clean! (The bags came an hour before the wedding, saving us from living forever in infamy in the wedding pictures.) There was also body wash and shampoo in the showers and actual tooth paste to use with our tiny little airline oops, we lost your bags toothbrushes. There was coffee, juice, yogurt, milk, and other food and snacks that also saved us that first morning. There was even enough room for us to host a brunch for the newlyweds the morning we left, with all five of us sitting at the table together!
The Notebook: any question you have about Washington, navigating around it, or anything else is answered here! A lot of work went into this!
Now for the fun: this place is so cute! I first saw it last fall while I was on a charity renovator's tour with my son and daughter-in-law, and it was love at first sight! When I knew we would be coming back for the wedding, I searched airbnb until I found it. What imagination went into this place, yet always with the goal of comfort first.
I'm saving the best for last - Crystal! I felt as if we were old friends by the time we got there. I had to email her so many times because of our constantly changing plans. (We were rescheduled and cancelled on 8 or 9 flights over the course of three days.) Crystal always answered me very quickly, and was so sweet. Sadly, I never got to meet her in person over our hectic few days, but I will next time. This will definitely be our destination of choice on all our succeeding Washington trips.
Our family group of 5 just spent four nights here. This lower ground level 2BR/2BA apartment is clean, colorful, nicely private, and convenient.
Crystal is fabulously well-organized with helpful information for bewildered visitors to DC.
10m proximity to Potomac metro station and DC's epicenter is really great - we spent almost all of our time sightseeing.
Our only complaint is that internet WiFi was bogged at times, but other times zippy... which happens.
Expect an easy visit if you stay with these wonderful and generous hosts.
Michael, we enjoyed hosting your family! Thank you for taking the time to leave a complementary review. I too lament the WiFi in DC. Unfortunately, the city center is very old and the infrastructure in the most visited/old parts of town (Capitol Hill, Logan, Dupont, Georgetown) don't have the fiber optics such as Fios in place. The only internet access is DSL, Cable, or Wireless - and all options get bogged down during high usage periods. We are hoping to get the fiber optic lines laid underground, but thus far only the suburbs and outer edges of the city have them. Thank you again for staying with us and please reach out and visit us again when you return. Warmly, Crystal
she had amazing facilities and everything we needed ready and waiting for us. we had local maps, suggestions and a handy FAQ book in the kitchen that we used to find cool places to hang out. I would really recommend this place for anyone that wants to stay near the capitol. The parking was easy and safe and the space is as advertised, roomy and it really feels like home. The only downside is you don't have great cell reception so she has a house phone to call anywhere in the US. We will definitely be back!
Fomos extremamente bem recebidos. Muita simpatia e hospitalidade.
We had a lovely stay in this apartment! Modern and furnished with taste we found everything we need (including some bio products in the fridge and a nice welcoming gift :)). Crystal and her husband gave us a warm and kind welcome and made clear we could reach them anytime we needed help or had doubts. Very comfortable beds and the flat is situated very conveniently close to the subway. Big supermarket 5 minutes walk from the house. What else to say? Well, If I'm back to DC I'd stay there again. Ah, don't miss the cute squirrels in the street :).
I can't recommend this place enough! The apartment is so very well-equipped, everything we needed was there and more, which was so helpful. I was really impressed by this because sometimes self contained accom only has the bare essentials. There were plenty of clean towels and spare linen, and everything was very clean, neat and tidy. It was so close to the metro and to the supermarket, making everything that much more comfortable and easy. Crystal was really helpful, leaving info for us on activities for the weekend and even dropping off some home baked Christmas cookies! There was also plenty of information on tourist attractions, local restaurants etc. having wifi was also really helpful. Overall, our stay was absolutely fantastic and I highly recommend it to anyone considering staying! Thanks so much!
Crystal was in continuous contact with us before and during our stay. Her place was clean, clean, clean which is of upmost importance to us. The apt. was spacious, wonderfully decorated with top notch comfort in bedding, linens and towels. We will not hesitate to stay again. With our daughter living a few blocks away, we all have another home in DC now.
