The apartment, former peasants housing, is on the ground floor of the old '800 manor house. The villa is surrounded by two small natural woods, cherry, almond and olive trees. Outside, the large yard with old wood stove and barbacue allows you to spend the warm summer evenings pleasantly.. Quiet area, but well served. Within walking distance there is the small village of farmers, with the church square, bar, post office, grocery store, and a short distance, the riding. The apartment is located in a hilly area, in Madonna Del Rosario, Cozzana, one of the most beautiful contrade of Monopoli and it is only a few km from the sea (10 minutes by car) 45 km from Bari Palese airport, 50km from Brindisi, 40km from the port of Bari. Thanks to its central location you can easily reach the town of Alberobello with its trulli, Conversano, with its majestic castle, the caves of Castellana, Polignano a Mare, and of course, the beautiful old town and picturesque bays and sandy beaches of Monopoli, Blue Flag 2012-201-2014. Car is essential.
My boyfriend, my cousin and I spent a whole week at Nunzia e Gaetano's place. The villa is incredibly beautiful, even more than on the pictures. The garden and the terrace are very pleasant and the area is fairy-like, surrounded with olive trees. With a car, the house is 10minutes away from the old town of Monopoli, which is absolutely delightful. The trulli of Alberobello and Locorotondo, Ostuno, Bari, Lecce, the caves of Castellana and a few other sites of great interest are easy to reach too. Gaetano and his wife Nunzia have been the perfect hosts, very warm and generous, providing us with a list of great restaurants in the area and even a few gifts! It has been a great pleasure meeting them and we were even moved to say goodbye when we had to leave. I can only recommend this place for a perfect holiday in Apulia!
We had the nicest time! The place was so well equipped, comfortable and private. The rooms spacious and super clean and the hosts left us water and a bottle of wine in the fridge for our arrival. I would definitely like to go back! Such a good price too. Thanks Gaetano!
This great apartment situated in Gaetano's family villa suited us perfectly. Situated in picturesque countryside on the edge of Cozzana, a small village with a great butcher and alimentari, Gaetano and Nunzia we're welcoming and informative without being imposing. We would happily stay here again. We particularly appreciated Gaetano's efforts to return the camera charger we left behind.
We had a very pleasant time at Gaetano's and Nunzia's place. The villa is very beautiful and it is 10 minutes drive form the center of Monopoli, the hosts were always nice and gave us advices on the area. We stayed in the big apartment which can host 5 pax and it is fully furnished. Would happily recommend it.
That Frankie and I will be returning next June - and taking the lovely 2 person apartment next door for younger family members probably says all that needs to be said: we loved the apartment, the location and Puglia in general.
Hosts Nunzia and Nino were wonderfully hospitable, kind and helpful, not least in recommending restaurants and particularly 'Il Guazzetto' in Monopoli, where I had probably the best fish meal of my long life! It's worth saying that you need to follow the signs to 'Porto', park in the big car park down by the harbour and walk back a few paces to the first corner and follow the signs to the ristorante. Note: the locals don't really start taking tables until 9.00, so doing bother booking, arrive before 9 and eat when the place has developed 'atmosphere'!
On driving in Monopoli: it's vital to note that, despite there being no signage, the rule within the city itself is that traffic from the right has priority: so you're cruising merrily along what is clearly a major road and a car, or old geezer on a Vespa can shoot out from a side road on the right, because that is his right! So slow or stop at every junction and look right! The same applies in Bari, apparently.
Don't be put off, just beware, as Monopoli is great and inexpensive.
So, if you want a terrific holiday, stay at Nunzia's: but don't tell too many people, as there aren't hordes of tourists spoiling the area as yet!
