A small, simple bedroom at our house. Full-size bed, a small closet, and a small desk. Walk to the river, transit, anything in Corktown, and the center of Downtown in 15 minutes. Bike or Uber anywhere in the central city in a snap.
This listing is for a private bedroom with a full-sized bed.
I have a band called Zelda and the Unibrows and a tour company called Backseat Detroit Tours. My partner Matt is a veterinarian.
We rented this house and ran Airbnb in it for a few years, have lived elsewhere for a few years, and now we are moving back in as homeowners this time, so this listing reflects some reviews from the period when we rented. These reviews are for the same room, which was "The Orange Room" and which contained a smaller bed before it was remodeled.
This house is in the historic district of Corktown, Detroit's oldest surviving neighborhood. We're almost as close as one can get to the middle of downtown and still be in a detached house. We're a ten minute walk from the Greyhound station, the Rosa Parks Transit Center, The People Mover and the Megabus to Chicago and Pittsburgh. A 15-to-20 minute walk gets one anywhere in the central business district, Corktown, and to the riverfront. Within three blocks of the house there's a playground, deli, bagel shop, record store, drop-in fitness classes and neighborhood bar with live music.
Parking is on the street and is free. It is typically possible to park directly in front of the house unless it's baseball's opening day or during the St. Patrick's parade in March. There has never been any theft or vandalism of a guest's car.

Interaction with Guests
We are pretty social with guests.
Corktown has the trendiest hipster spots in Detroit, with all of the wonderfulness and pretentiousness that entails, but is also a terrific tight-knit front-porch neighborhood.
Walk to Rosa Parks Transit Center, The People Mover, Megabus and Greyhound. Bus, bike, taxi or Uber to get to Amtrak.
No smoking indoors, no illegal drugs. We'll provide clean sheets, blankets and towels, but wash your own dishes right away. If you accidentally break something, tell us and we won't be mad. In the dining room at night, or when leaving for extended periods in the day, please close the curtains.
The house is spacious and calm and clean, in a perfect location to visit downtown Detroit. I would recommend it!
I enjoyed my stay. We spent most of the time either in the room or at DEMF, so didn't use the kitchen. Bathroom is well-lit, spacious, and super clean.
The bed in this room is just a twin, so be mindful of that when booking for two people.
Walk to downtown is 20 minutes and seemed reasonably safe. Due to flight cancellation, we missed the first night, but received prompt reimbursement.
Joe is an awesome host. The house is lovely, warm, and inviting. I totally enjoyed my stay. I am looking forward to returning next week for a brief stay. My daughter will be staying at the Bumblebee this summer also. I am so happy we found this great Detroit lodging option, Joe is not only a great host but he has extensive knowledge about Detroit history, food, and entertainment.
The house is awesome, comfortable, clean, and well located. Joe was kind and very helpful to me and my partner. I would definitely recommend my friends to stay there and whether I visit Detroit again, Bumblebee House must be my choice of place to stay.
I stayed at the Bumblebee House for two whole months and had a great time. The house is beautiful and well-located. Joe is willing to give you any kind of help with Detroit (I made him explain the midtown bus routes to me more than once!) and Paul has a great record collection that could serve as an intro course on Beethoven! The neighborhood is really fabulous, easy access to Dearborn, downtown, Southwest and the transit center. Great places to lunch and study close by, and there is a huge book store just a few blocks away. The house was quieter than I expected, which worked out fine for me because I was in town to do academic work, but I did feel like I had to tiptoe sometimes. Overall, I would absolutely recommend the Bumblebee House to anyone looking for anyone looking for a solid place to stay in Detroit. It was perfect.
Joe and Matt were amazing. They were really flexible, accommodating and helpful. I read all of the positive reviews before I booked the room and they were all true. It was a safe neighborhood and very close to downtown. We could've spent $179 for a hotel, but what we saved by staying in the orange room allowed us to take another trip! We were in town for an Amma retreat... we meditated all day, got hugs (darshan) and sleeping at the bumblebee house fit right into the wonderful energy of the weekend. From opening up their home to us LAST MINUTE on Thanksgiving day, to all the other things they did, they deserve more than 5 stars. The bed is small - perfect for one person, but we were two and it worked just fine. I highly recommend them and their room - and wish them much success with their future as airbnb hosts! -Jennifer
