About This Listing
Beautiful and comfortable one and a half - two bedroom design apartment, perfect for 3 ppl.
If you want to experience the (sometimes) crazy Rvk nightlife and all it has to offer but be sure to have a good night sleep, this is the perfect place.
A cozy and beautiful designer apartment (that has been photographed and published in home decor magazines) is located in the westside of Reykjavik in a quiet family neighborhood.
The apartment has two bedrooms, in the master bedroom we have a 160X200 bed. In the extra bedroom we have a sleeper sofa (for 2) and it's possible to add an extra bed (80x200cm) .
The apartment has a newly renovated bathroom with a shower and a bathtub. A brand new sink and toilet and very good storage.
The kitchen was renovated from A to Z a few months ago, the old kitchen was thrown out and a brand new luxurious kitchen was installed. It has all the modern comforts, a built in dishwasher, induction cook top, oven, a built in refrigerator and freezer and lots of storage. It's also so pretty to look at.
The dining area is by the window so you can enjoy the garden view while you eat. The chairs are an old designer classic by Eero Saarinen and the light hanging above is the famous Copper Shade Pendant by Tom Dixon. The dining experience can't go wrong there.
The living room / bedroom is a cosy room with a sleeper sofa for 2, a beautiful antique chest and a desk, a LED 46" TV, an Apple TV and 3 bookcases filled with interesting books at your disposal. There is a large window in this room so you'll have a gorgeous garden view.
You will have access to free parking (right outside the apartment), a washing machine in a newly renovated room and an high speed internet connection.
The flat is within two minutes walking distance from Reykjavik's most famous geothermal swimming pool (Vesturbaejarlaug) and the best gourmet shop in town (Melabud). A ten minute walk downtown and a five minute walk to the seafront in the opposite direction (Aegissida), a popular area for walking, running and bicycling.
The flat is also within WALKING distance of all the major central Reykjavik tourist attractions, including:
- National museum of Iceland (8 minutes);
- Laugavegur (main shopping street) (12 minutes);
- University of Iceland (3 minutes);
- The Pond and Central Park (8 minutes);
- The harbour and whale watching offices (15 minutes)
If you need any help with organizing trips around Reykjavik (museums, restaurants) or trips outside the city I will be more than happy to assist in any way that I can.
High speed internet, washing machine, dishwasher, dryer, parking space, library.
The neighborhood is fantastic! It is a quiet family neighborhood, with kids playing on the streets and people grilling in their back yard.
I love that I have a guaranteed good night's sleep at home but I'm still so close to the city center. I can walk dowtown and participate in the (sometimes) crazy nightlife in Reykjavik and then walk back home and sleep for as long as I want.
There are many bus stops close to the apartment, most of them are in 3 minutes walking distance.
Other Things to Note
I will leave a map for future guest and a list of must do's in Iceland.
Hey all! I love my beautiful apartment so if you could please treat it with respect and courtesy and don't do anything that you would not typically do in your own home.
Also, I have neighbours upstairs so please be considered of them when you stay at my place.
But most importantly - Enjoy yourself :)
We had a 2-week travel in Europe with Airbnb this time but Maria's room was the best among all the rooms we stayed. Her room was clean and full of Northern European taste furnitures. Location wise, it was close to a super market and nice cozy cafe where we spent almost every morning.
Maria was kindly flexible with our special requests and always responded to us in a quick manner. I and my wife agree that she was the best host during our trip and highly recommend her room. We will definitely choose her place again next time we come back!
Didn't get a chance to meet Maria, but I explained to her that we were getting into town very early. She set up the unit the night before and everything was clean and taken care of. The unit itself, was very nice. I will say, using the apple TV, Netflix actually doesn't work, and looking into it, I guess is illegal in Iceland? Movies from iTunes would work, but close out every few minutes or so. Other then that, the place is as advertised. Its not too far from the downtown city center, but in the Winter, you're not making that walk (turns into 1500isk - 2000isk cab ride one way just to get to the city). Not too bad, but I was hoping for more to do around the unit itself. There is a small grocery store, coffee shop, bakery, and public pool within walking distance.. So that was nice. Overall, I'd say this was "As Advertised" with the exception to the TV. If you want a place to stay, away from the city and its attractions, then this is the place for you! If you wan to walk to restaurants, bars, or shops... You may be better off inside the city center.
Maria was a very helpful, and responded quickly to any messages we sent to her about the apartment. The apartment was very clean and cosy, exactly as pictured and located on a quiet street on the edge of Reykjavik city centre. Renting a car was easy as there is ample street parking, if you want to go on an excursion the bus company can pick you up from the hotel just down the road and all the city centre attractions and restaurants only a short walk away. Would recommend / use again.
This is a nice small apartment and perfect for a couple. Not so good for a family (like us) as the sofa-bed is in the living room without a door. Note the sofa-bed will be small for 2 adults and the bathroom is also very small with the smallest sink ever.
Smooth communication with the host Maria who was quick to reply to all our questions (we never met in person).
I would however improve the cleaning of the apartment, especially the bathroom needs a good scrub and the textiles overall washing. The pillows were so used and dirty that we bought new ones.
Great apartment! We loved the apartment and we loved the area Even more! It is close (3 min walk) to one of Reykjaviks best public pool. And The new restaurant around The corner is great for breakfast or brunch after a swim.
Maria was a great host and we would like to book her place next time we go :)
We had a wonderful stay at Maria's stylish and beautiful apartment over a long weekend of September. The location was great for us - walking distance from city center in a lovely, quiet neighborhood. There was a cool little grocery store around the corner. Maria is a super friendly, flexible host and the apartment is very tidy, spacious, nicely renovated and decorated with that Scandinavian cool :) Highly recommended!

About the Host, Maria
I'm a 29 year old Icelandic student. I'm finishing my bachelors degree in biology this autumn and hope to continue my studies either in Denmark or Switzerland next fall.
I love Iceland, dogs and cats, my family and friends.
It's the oldest grocerie store in Iceland. There you can buy everything you need and i especially recommend the fried chicken, its fantastic!
A beautiful walking/cycling path near the seaside.
This is the local flea market. It's open on Saturdays and Sundays and there you can buy everything from gourmet shark to furniture for your home.
The best hot dogs in the world! I think so anyway.
You definately have to go there (Bill Clinton did!) and have one or two (or three?) :)
