Staffed Riad next to Jamaa El Fna

House - Entire home/apt · Rue de la Koutoubia, Marrakesh, Marrakesh-Tensift-Al Haouz, Morocco

Cool and nice Riad, with helpful and friendly staff. Quiet and ideally located, next to Jamaa El Fna, it can accomodate up to 8 people. Beautiful patio and cool terraces overlooking the medina and the Atlas mountains. Rented as a whole.

The Space

LOCATION: The house is next door from Jamaa El Fna square, which makes it easy to access and find, and a very good starting point to both discover the rest of the medina and access the shopping districts of the new town, such as Gueliz or the Hivernage. It is very close to the Koutoubia, the Gardens of the Koutoubia Hôtel and the Club Med compound.

BUILDING:
The house is a 19th century Riad, with many original features, such as cedar doors and ledges, wooden ceilings.. The Riad is U shaped, wrapped around a 40 meter square patio with bougainvilleas and a small pool, heated and filtered.

GROUND LEVEL:
At the ground level, there are two lobbies "en suite" leading to the patio, a b'hou (an open living room overlooking the patio), a more formal living room with a fireplace and a painted ceiling, a visitors' bath and restroom, and a kitchen (please note that the use of the kitchen is exclusively reserved for the house cook).

FIRST FLOOR:
On the first floor, a 2m wide open gallery runs on two sides of the patio and opens, first, onto a green bedroom with twin beds and a bathroom en suite. Next, the gallery leads to a service room, which is not available to guests, and finally to the blue room, with a queen sized four poster bed and an adjacent bathroom (large tub). Both bedrooms are fitted with air conditionning.

UPPER FLOOR:
On the top floor there is a U shaped terrace with a sun bathing space and two bedrooms and two bathrooms. Each bedroom and its bathroom is an independent unit fitted with air conditionning and can be accessed directly from the terrace. On top of the building housing these units there are two upper terraces. The larger one is set up as a summer living room with a pergola and offers nice views on the Koutoubia and Marrakech fabulous sunsets. The other one is used for service and not accessible to guests.

OUTDOOR SPACES:
The patio and its filtered pool, the first floor gallery, the lower and upper terraces, and the b'hou

AMENITIES:
Each bedroom is fitted with a A/C unit. Linen (sheets, towels, bathrobes..) and usual amenities such as hairdryers are provided in each room and bathroom. The house is also equipped with two beds for toddlers or young children.

STAFF
There is a French speaking guardian who also understands and speaks a little English, and a French speaking female caretaker, who is also an excellent cook. Both are totally reliable and highly professional people who have long been employed byf the owner of the house.

MEALS
Please note that access to the kitchen is restricted to the house staff. Breakfast and other meals can be arranged for an additional fee if travellers want to eat at the house. Breakfast includes home made yogurt and Moroccan pancakes, fruit salad, freshly squeezed orange juice, cake, jam and butter.. and costs 4,5 euros (50 dirhams) per person.
Lunch and dinner cost 15 euros (160 dirhams) per person and per meal. They include an appetizer, an entrée and a dessert. Among the available specialties, I strongly recommend the pumpkin-orange-carrot soup, the artichoke based salad, the Sfaa (sort of angel hair pasta with meat, a traditionnal wedding dish), the couscous, the fresh vegetables tajines, the chicken with lemon tajine, the briouates (sort of delicious dumpings), and an astonishing array of cakes and pies.

INTERNET AND MEDIA:
The house also provides free internet through a wifi connection accessible from the ground and first floors, a free access computer and its printer, satellite TV in the living room.

TRANSPORTATION:
We can arrange for a private shuttle to collect you from, or take you to, the airport. It can acommodate up to 6 people. Its price (each way) is Euros 20, which is more or less the price of a cab for the same ride, in less comfortable conditions. It is also a good way to check the quality of both the driver and the provided vehicle, which are the very same we recommend for any sightseeing trips you might want to make around Marrakech (Ouzoud waterfalls and the valley of the Ourika are two very nice possibilities for instance).

  • The position of this riad is just perfect and it's excellent value for money. Right in the thick of things but exceedingly tranquil. Make sure you have dinner at the riad at least once, we ate in twice in a five night stay! Everything was exceedingly clean and Pablo rang us twice to check in. Also loved watching movies from the projector across the atrium, though remember to take the right leads to connect from your laptop/ipad. All in all a wonderful introduction to Marrakech.

  • Don´t look any further, stay here! At least if you like: luxury, design, space, friendliness, proximity, excellent food, peacefulness... I could go on and on... Do not miss the food!
Don't be afraid to take the little alleys. Book a guide for the first day, Yassine the house manager will set you up with the best.
    Have fun!

  • Spent 4 days in Marrakesh at Pablo's Riad with 6 other friends. All of us have nothing but positive words to say about the whole experience. The house itself was amazing and its location could not be better if you are planning to go exploring. Communication with Pablo and his staff was A+, and everything at the house was in perfect working order. In addition, we added to our stay homemade breakfast and dinner on some of the days, as well as travel both from and to the airport. Again all I can say is that we had a great time and would definitely recommend the riad and our hosts to anyone visiting Marrakesh!

  • Here is the problem: I got sick and could not make it myself to Marrakech. But here the good news: the rest of the team liked it a lot. I will male it one day.

  • It was the third time we stayed at Pablo's Riad and we had another great time there!!
The location is perfect just next to the main square of the city. The Riad is lovely decorated. This is a very peaceful location with a nice view to Marrakech. Yassine and Boushra are here to make sure your stay is perfect. Boushra is the perfect cook serving breakfast, lunch and dinners. Don't miss her food, it is fantastic!!
We will come back again !

  • We stayed with a group of 7 women in Pablo’s riad. Location is the most central you can get, I really recommend to stay in the medina to get a feel of what Marrakech is about. The house is warm, welcoming, beautiful, traditional and comfortable. Don’t expect 4 stars hotel luxury, but, who wants that if you can stay here. Yassine, the concierge, helped us with many things like taxi’s, and he translated our wishes to the cook. He is taking English lessons, but basic communication is fine. If you speak some French, that helps. Pablo gave us his mobile nr, we could always call him if we needed something. He called when we arrived to see if everything was okay. If I need to say something which was a bit on the downside, it’s that we had to wait at the airport for our pick up for 45 minutes. Then, what more .. Breakfast simple (but nice), great to just slowly start the day. Take your coffee up to the rooftop. Have a night at ‘home’, with a suberb home cooked dinner! We where in advance warned about fraude and harassment in M, but have met only nice people. You can easily wander around town. Yes, off course we paid too much for leather bags etc.. But that’s how it goes. O, be aware they have something like siesta! Around noon, some shops and for sure art galleries in Gueliz, are closed. We went on a private day tour to the Atlas with Sun Trails Morocco, also highly recommended. And Al Fassia restaurant is great too (book in advance)! Merci Pablo, Yassine & madame chef, tout c’etait tres bien!

  • Pablo has been great! He has always replied to me very quickly and he answered to all my many questions patiently.(much faster than I do..)
The riad is really nice, clean and super close to the main square. The rooms are nice and tidy. I travelled with my kids and husband and we had lot of room for them to have fun, we could have had another couple of friends with no problem to share the space.
We also enjoyed private dining and it was a great choice. In the evening we would spend sometime on the rooftop terrace with a drink and enjoyed the nice view and the soft sound of everything was going on outside. It is remarkable how quite you are once inside and how private your vacation can be at this beautiful location. I will definetely recommend this riad and Pablo hospitality. Also a mention to his local manager of the Riad which took great care of us and helped us with anything we would ask.

About
Welcome to my listing. I am a 45 year old US educated dual citizen of France and Spain. I work in international development, which entails a fair share of travel in Northern and sub-saharan Africa. I went to Marrakesh a few years ago and fell in love with the place, to the extent that I bought this house in the medina (old town). The house is rather nice, but what I actually like the most about it is that it is incredibly peaceful. Like all traditional houses in the medina, it is designed to shelter its dwellers from the outside world, providing them with a very serene environment. The mild weather enables you to basically live in the patio, enjoying the opening onto the sky and the soothing noise of the water in the fountain. When you feel as if you were getting a little too much estranged from the real world, you just have to leave the house, walk a minute or so, and let yourself be overwhelmed by the bursting activity of the old town, with plenty of people on the move and a fascinating array of smells, colors, noises, shades and lights.. I am not sure about how much this tells about myself (this is supposedly the "describe yourself" section), but that is what I like to do when I stay in Marrakesh. I do hope that, if you pick this house, you'll be charmed in the same way. In any case, do come to Marrakesh: it is beautiful, laid back and has one of the most beautiful lights I have encountered in my travels. Wherever you decide to stay, I wish you a very pleasant time here.
