The Space

This bright and welcoming one bedroom apartment overlooks a charming garden and floods with morning sun. Comfortably furnished with a well-equipped kitchen. While ideal for a couple or small family, it can comfortably accommodate up to four adults.

The apartment is located on the ground floor of a three-unit residential building (there are two steps to enter the house but it is otherwise level). Private entry, the apartment is set back from the street.

High quality linens, blankets and towels provided. Kitchen stocked with cookware, utensils and dishes. Free wi-fi internet, flat screen TV with Roku (a media streaming device with multiple free channels and free subscription to Netflix and Hulu) and a DVD (website hidden) player with a charging station for Apple devices and an auxiliary port for other devices. Walk-in shower. Toilet in separate room. Hairdryer and iron provided.

FOR FAMILIES WITH YOUNG CHILDREN a portable crib with linens/blankets, infant bathing tub, high chair, booster step, potty seat, stroller, books and toys available upon request.

Guest Access

Guests have access to a clothes washer and a dryer in the building, up one flight of stairs (there is a dry cleaners half a block away as well).

Interaction with Guests

My family and I reside in the building in a separate apartment. While I am often around and always happy to answer questions, I will treat you and your space with respect and privacy.

The Neighborhood

Our home is ideally located within comfortable walking distance to Noe Valley's 24th Street commercial district, Valencia corridor/the Mission, and the Castro. All three neighborhoods offer a wide and delightful array of coffee-shops, hipster bars, top-rated restaurants and everything in-between.

Our local grocery store, Whole Foods, is six blocks from our home. Additionally, Safeway supermarket is a 10 minute Muni ride. We are three blocks from Dolores Park which boasts stunning views of downtown a large new children's play area, tennis and basketball courts.

Getting around

The J-Church Muni (train) is literally steps from our home and links with other bus and muni lines to get you anywhere in the city. BART is 1 mile away with direct access to San Francisco Airport or the East Bay region. We are located next door to a Zip Car pick up location. If you are traveling by car, access to highways 80, 101 and 280 are all within 1-2 miles.

Parking is free and available in our neighborhood, however it is closely monitored during the day.

Please note that the electric Muni train runs behind our house. It is white noise to us, but if you're an extremely light sleeper this could be distracting. However, for train-lovers or those with kids, this is one of the best-loved features of our home!

Check In
  • Our weekend in San Francisco was fabulous. Starting with this lovely apartment in the most perfect location. Ellen and here family were very kind and helpful. The apartment was exactly what we needed. There were four adults and we had just the right amount of space. It was cozy, impeccably clean, and had everything we needed. We would stay there again in a heart beat.

  • A nice apartment with plenty of space. It's in a nice neighborhood with good restaurants just a few minutes on foot or one stop with the J-line in either direction. The J-line is also a good and easy way to get to downtown and to the ferry building. I can definitely recommend it.

  • Spent a great week in the apartment, which is close to everything you need in Mission. Just a short walk from Dolores park and the J metro going downtown. Ellen was a great host and was very helpful when I had any questions. Btw, the futon is really comfortable, so don't let that stop you if you need two beds. Super!

  • Ellen's pied-a-terre in Noe Valley is a gem. We plan to return many times. The apartment is peaceful, comfortable, and tastefully furnished. It was reassuring to have Ellen next door in case of any problems. She's a most gracious hostess. I would recommend her place to other visitors to San Francisco.
    Thanks again,

  • We had a fantastic time at Ellen's place in Noe Valley. As a family of four with two little ones, it was a perfect fit. Ellen was so accommodating and was kind enough to set up all of our kid-friendly creature comforts, including high chairs, potty equipment, pack n play, etc. The space was clean, comfortable, and charming, with great accessibility to shopping, restaurants, and parks.

  • Lovely apartment and very professional host. Queries were responded almost immediately. We were travelling with an infant and Ellen was generous enough to provide us with a cot, bathing tub, heater and even a stroller( airlines lost ours). Apartment and warm and cozy and just as the pictures. Its minutes away from restaurants, local tranport, car rental and whole foods.

  • Ellen was a wonderful host. We were there with our two children and she knew exactly what we needed. She left out age appropriate toys, high chairs and beds. The apartment is beautiful, with plenty of space and everything you need for a great stay in San Francisco. The location was amazing, with the J-line just outside to take you anywhere downtown and amazing views from Delores Park. We will come back.

I am most at home in the garden or behind the lens of a camera. I am most happy when preparing a fabulous meal, drinking a hearty red and sharing both with family and friends. Among some of my favorite travel memories (so far): a hand pulled pint of Guinness at Foxy John's after hiking the hills of the Dingle peninsula, swimming in the Mediterranean Sea off the rocky shores of Ischia, the smell of bulls in the early morning from our balcony above the calle Estafeta in Pamplona, and sunsets over Haystack at Cannon Beach, Oregon.
