Dinner is served each evening, in the summer on the candlelit terrace to the sound of the cowbells or on the square by the church. In cooler months the ancient stone walls of the dining room provide a lovely ambiance. Nick is cordon bleu trained and can accommodate special diets including vegan and dairy and gluten free, just ask. His food has great reviews, traditional French home cooking with a fine dining twist. We grow much of our own produce organically on the potager where our hens scratch around, fluffy omelettes for breakfast are a house speciality.

Surrounded by wildflower meadows, mountains and lakes, the walking, cycling, mountain biking, bird watching, all from the back door, are fabulous. The village has a farm shop selling local produce, tree lined Chalabre is our nearest town, an easy 3km ramble or cycle for cafes, bars and shops.
We offer cyclist friendly accommodation, bike hire is available locally, we have maps to lend and can advise on routes. Wild swimming in the lakes and river is a treat. The water is warm in the lakes in summer, Montbel is 5km, Puivert, 11km where you can barbeque your purchases from the night market. Carcassonne Plage offers a great alternative to the coast.
Explore ruined Cathar castles on rocky outcrops, Montsegur, Puivert, Perypertuse and Carcassonne are all an easy drive. Visit vineyards, medieval towns and villages, prehistoric caves and farmers markets - Mirepoix is 10 minutes drive and is the best on Monday mornings. The Prehistoric Park, Tarascon, butterfly farm and dinosaur museum are great for kids. Some lovely, family ski resorts are about 40mins.

Guest Access

Comfy guest's salon with books, DVDs, games, and in the winter, a roaring log fire. Lots of outdoor spaces for dining - the square, the roof terrace, and the bar which opens onto the terrace. Comfy loungers on the terrace, drinks available all day, dinner served every evening.

Interaction with Guests

Always available for advice on what to do, maps to lend, help with planning walking & cycling routes, bike hire and restaurant reservations. Best places for visiting and secret places to explore.

Getting Around

A car is recommended though we can pick you up from the train station or airport if you wish to walk or cycle - bike hire is available locally, from 15 euros per day delivered to your door.

Other Things to Note

The house is quirky with changes in levels and 1 or 2 places where you must mind your head. However, with a bit of care, even the very young and the very elderly have survived their holiday!
