An older house with character, located on a comfortable block in a rough part of town. The owners do not live on site, but responded quickly to phone and email messages (e.g. provided a bigger towel, transit advice). Room and shared bath were clean and tidy, but a bit careworn. Rate included cable TV and wireless internet in room, as well as use of kitchen. Great value if you have a car but, while convenient to public transit and BWI light rail, walking to and from bus stops and transfer points felt dodgy, particularly after dark.
The quiet space was as advertised, quiet and clean but close enough to the city that it was very convenient. My wife and I stayed there for Otakon weekend and had a great time; no problems at all.
Thank you Janine!
This is my second time staying at Janine and Victor's "Quiet Space" - I enjoyed all the books in the house, the interesting neighborhood, the large kitchen but most of all the quiet! The other two guests staying at the house were almost invisible and I never had a problem getting into the shared bathroom. Convenient to both Washington DC and Baltimore.
I enjoyed my stay at this relaxing house in a Baltimore City working class neighborhood. The bedroom and the kitchen had everything I needed for my week stay. I don't have a car so I spent quite a bit of time waiting for the bus(#16 and #51) and the light rail. On the plus side, there was abundant food shopping in walking distance.
This appears to be an old house, located in an older part of town, about 4-5 miles south-east of downtown. Also, please be aware that Baltimore lists within the top-10 metro areas for high crime rate. However, to be fair, the lodging rate is very, very, reasonable. Water, sewer, heating/cooling, kitchen facilities, electricity, and internet are all included in the nightly rate. I guess the owners could initiate a weekly cleaning of the common areas, bathroom, kitchen, etc., and not leave it up to the residents/tenants to the same. There were a few bugs in my room. One of the residents told me that he saw mice on the kitchen floor. The owners showed courtesy and paid me a visit me within 2-3 days of my arrival. Bottom-line, be ready to go back to student life, accept living in a rough area, close to downtown, in a very old house, which may be hard for those used to living in the suburbs. But, keep in mind that the owners have no control of the location, or about Baltimore’s crime rate. I moved out to a permanent apartment, but I still live in Baltimore.

About the Host, Janine
We are an active family composed of my husband Victor, our twin boys aged 5, son in college, and myself. Some of the things that we enjoy together include walking, doing yoga, and riding our tandem bicycle with tandem tagalong. Now that the weather has gotten warmer, let me add gardening to that list. I keep busy running a massage school as well as a spa. (so let me know if you would like to schedule a massage or facial). Victor spends his time maintaining the houses. This year he totally renovated a bathroom in one of the houses, and put a washer and dryer at ground level in another house. If there is anything that needs fixing, he can do it.
We enjoy travelling near and far. In fact, it was on a visit to Seattle that we first discovered Airbnb.
We enjoy being hosts and will strive to make your stay as comfortable as possible.
Welcome to Baltimore!
