There’s an Island expression “Home from Away” that perfectly captures the feeling of this apartment. It is set up for easy-care comfort with a gracious mix of contemporary furniture, island antiques and fine photography, Cook in the well equipped kitchen, enjoy the Island's bounty on the wipe-clean dining table, relax on the comfortable living room sofas. Two upstairs bedrooms (one king and one queen) share a renovated bathroom.
Charlottetown, the capital of Prince Edward Island, was laid out according to the principals of the Enlightenment in the late 1700’s. The city planners established a rectangular grid of five hundred lots, which makes it very easy to find your way around town. These lots, including parks, waterfront, residential and commercial areas remain the core of the down town today, and 82 Sydney is in the midst of this culturally rich area. It is less than a five minute walk to the board walk, the waterfront park and the marina as well as the legislature, cinema, theaters, galleries, shops, dance classes, Victoria Row, the library, great book stores, a mall, most of the restaurants in the city, the Culinary Institute and a weekly Farmer’s Market. A ten minute walk brings you to the 100 acre amenity-filled Victoria Park, or the Charlottetown event grounds, and a half-hour drive brings you to some of the best beaches on the island. Rain or shine, there’s always something to do.
The core of the house @ 82 Sydney Street, framed with massive 5” thick vertical timbers, was built by a liquor merchant at about the time of Confederation. For some time the house belonged to a family with eleven children – all girls – so many islanders have memories of visiting, playing in the back yard, and pulling a home-made doughnut out of the crock in the pantry. Now three lovely apartments, it has been up-dated and added to over the years, but still retains many of its original features. The current owners, from Massachusetts, have been coming to the island for decades, and have chosen this as the perfect spot.
Please note: Rentals of over one month will be governed by a separate agreement using an amended IRAC lease form.
The most important thing is to enjoy your stay and smile at the neighbors. Please don't leave a fire unattended, and please leave your pets at home. There's a dog in the other apartment though.
There is one parking space.
This apartment is in a fabulous location right in the heart of downtown, with many shops and restaurants within walking distance. We didn't get to meet Rebecca, but it wasn't necessary as all the details for check-in were provided (it was an easy process). The apartment is very cosy, inviting, and well appointed. Would definitely recommend!
It was a great location for us. Very comfortable with easy access to Charlottetown and surrounding areas. Clean and comfortable place to stay.
This was my first time using airbnb and my host provided me with clarity on the whole process. In addition, I was provided information on sights to see and things to do while on the island. I had no problems contacting my host for any additional questions. While staying here, you are within walking distance of restaurants, the ocean, pubs, shops, a convenience store, and parks. This property has all the comforts of home.
Perfect little home in a beautiful city. Literally steps away from the waterfront and all the little shops and taverns we like to frequent. We are 4 adults and 2 infants and had more than enough room. Never had the pleasure of meeting the hosts, but they made the whole process so easy it wasn't necessary. would definitely stay here again. Thanks so much!
This apartment was great for us, we were a group of 5 and there was plenty of room. The location is excellent if you want to explore downtown! Rebecca was prompt in returning my e-mails, and accommodated my request to add one more person to the reservation (who slept in the pull out couch) about a week before we arrived. There was even a outdoor grill which wasn't listed in the amenities.
We stayed at Rebecca and Richard's for 4 nights in July! The house was wonderful, very clean, exactly as posted (no surprises which always makes me happy). We loved the big open airy main bedroom, and the location of the house cannot be beat. It was perfect to be downtown, especially this summer with the celebration zone beer gardens just a short walk away! Everyone from Rebecca, to Cynthia to the neighbours were very sweet and helpful. The gate at the top of the stairs was a huge relief for us with a toddler. We had everything we needed in the kitchen. Small tv, which was neither here nor there since we weren't there to watch tv anyways, but interesting. It was very quiet- we spoke to the neighbours in passing outside, but never heard them from inside, which was great (and gave me hope that they couldn't hear our little one)! A great first experience with airbnb.
I liked the listing because we wanted space, 2 teenaged boys can be a bit challenging in small spaces for 2 weeks. I also wanted a place in Charlottetown to serve as a base of operations. This was PERFECT. Rebecca was incredibly helpful with directions and ideas, the space itself was very well appointed, comfortable and quiet given that it was so close to the center of the activity.
We made breakfast almost every day, and several dinners. The kitchen worked really well. I highly recommend buying some local mussels!
Off street parking was important and I'm pleased we had it. I'm also really pleased that we had a washer and dryer. I could have brought a fraction of the clothes I did because of that.
On the hottest day, the AC in the living room died, and within a few hours Rebecca had arranged for a new one to be replaced, and very graciously worked around our schedule. I would love to come back here. It was absolutely the best experience I have had!

We love to travel as well, and also have a home on Prince Edward Island in Canada. Where-ever we go, I like to cook and dance.
