Temple Bar (mainly raucous nightlife but also some nicer options and good restaurants)

Camden Street (more hip nightlife, including microbrew pub)

St Stephens Green and Grafton Street (Dublin's premium shopping street)

Less than 20 minutes walk from the apartment:

Merrion and Fitzwilliam Squares and Dublin's Georgian Quarter

The Phoenix Park (Europe's largest city park)

Neighbourhood Cafes I like:

Cafe Noto: great New Yorker sandwich (toasted!), nice room. End Francis Street.
Bite of Life: Across the street from the apartment.

Fumbally: New, trendy. Very airy. Like a Berlin cafe. straight up the street from Patrick Street.

Bibis: Cute. Girls especially love it. Great for breakfast. Lombard Street, about 8 minutes away in Portobello.

Queen of Tarts, Cow's Lane: Great carrot cake, mismatched china, outside area. Craft market on Saturday.

Places I like to eat nearby:

Nede: modern Irish food with a twist. Chefs from the famous Noma restaurant in Copenhagen. Great Early Bird. Love the fish. Lunch special for Euro 15 including a glass of wine!

Odessa: restaurant and club. Love brunch, especially Smoked Chicken Quesadillas and Bloody Mary's. Strong coffee, lively atmosphere.

Crackbird: trendy fried (and grilled) chicken. Love the burnt lemon feta dip and homemade soft drinks.

Ciao Bella Roma: Italian pizzeria and trattoria. Great lunch and early bird deals. Serves pizza until very late Friday and Saturday.

The WInding Stair: modern Irish food. Great for seafood.

Joburger: best burgers and sweet potato fries. Cool outside area opposite Grogans (great pub with a mix of ould codgers and trendies and full-on nutters). Castle Market, between Georges Street and The Powerscourt Townhouse Centre.

Toffoli: Castle Street. Small but perfectly formed gourmet pizza joint.

The Bull and Castle: Great for steak. Opposite Christchurch.

Burdocks: Fish and chips, allegedly the best in the world!

Pubs/ Bars I love:

Fallons. Your local! Great traditional Dublin pub with a mix of characters.

The Globe and Rira: Pub and nightclub for if you like to dance and drink and can remember the Eighties (not just for the older ones).

No Name/ Kellys: Trendyish (or at least it was). Lovely space. Fade Street (off Georges Street).

Hogans: Classic studenty haunt.

The Long Hall: a classic Dublin pub.

The Stag's Head: another classic Dublin pub. Go on Friday and you may catch trad music session downstairs..

Grogans: always busy, great for people watching. Art for sale on the walls. Sit outside all year round.

Fallon & Byrne's winebar: great wine selection. Charcuterie and cheese etc. In the basement so you can find yourself forgetting obligations and ordering another lovely malbec or albarino :).

  • The apartment is extremely well located close to everything in Dublin. We did not have the opportunity to meet Daragh, but were greeted upon arrival and settled in with no problem.

  • We had a great stay at this little apartment, and Daragh was a perfect host. We needed a home base for a 2-day whirlwind tour of Dublin, and this was a centrally located spot that didn't disappoint. The flat is small, decked out in Ikea furniture, and well used, but it was perfect for our purposes. Daraugh (pronounced Dara) met us at the apartment and had great recommendations for food and entertainment (he didn't let us down once). It's a good, safe place if you need a spot to sleep and shower while doing Dublin.

  • Great central place that actually was walking distance to everything. Daragh was a very helpful and available host. We would definitely stay there again. Only tricky bit was the lock to the front door - it takes some practice!

    Response from Daragh:

Thanks Cathie :) Lovely meeting you however briefly.

  • Daragh was very helpful and friendly. Some great
Great tips on places to see and to drink and to eat.
Apartment was just as described and walking
Distance to everywhere in Centre City

  • Great service and a lovely apartment! Not too far from city centre and a selection of convenience stores near by. I also recommend highly the cafe across the road. I have stayed hear a few times now on business to Dublin, so I am not a tourist. I have found the service and quality of the apartment to be very constant over all of my stays. I highly recommend this apartment.

    Response from Daragh:

Thanks Ewan! See you next month:)

    March 2014
  • Good location, fine apartment, but a lot of traffic noise, at night too.

    March 2014
    Response from Daragh:

Thank you for your review .. The apartment in the heart of the city centre so there is street noise

    March 2014
  • Daragh was a wonderful host and his apartment met our needs perfectly! It was very easy to find his place from the 747 bus (follow the signs for St. Patrick's Cathedral) and he was communicative and helpful during our stay. The bathroom was remodeled prior to our visit, which was another plus.

We were able to access everything by foot, as the apartment is conveniently located. There is some traffic noise from the street, but we had no problems falling asleep after a day of exploring.

Daragh also keeps a bag full of maps and information regarding Ireland which helped us finalize our visit to Dublin. We wanted to go for a day trip and with Daragh's recommendation, we visited Glendalough via St. Kevin's bus service. I would highly recommend if you want to explore outside of Dublin and you enjoy the outdoors.

All in all, our experience was great. Thank you again Daragh!

    March 2014
    Response from Daragh:

What a lovely review Helen! I hope we will have a pint next time you are in town :) I think you made the right choice visiting Glendalough as it is a very special, spiritual place whether one is religious or not.

  • We had a wonderful experience staying here. The flat is lovely, and in a really handy central location. Daragh was a great host, and gave us some really excellent tips about what to do and see in Dublin. We would absolutely stay here next time - couldn't recommend it highly enough!

    Response from Daragh:

What a lovely review! Thank you very much - it was great meeting you, and hope to see you again :)

  • Daragh's Perfect City Centre Apartment was perfect! The inside of the apartment is great and the location is even better than we could have imagined. We had a great time walking the city and stopping in for some rest!

    February 2014
  • Perfect? Not quite. Pretty damn fine? Absolutley! The place has all required amenities, and some thoughtful extras, (email hidden)d-in feel that suited us very nicely. And Daragh is a gem. His flexibility, enthusiasm, and knowledge of Dublin (especially eateries) were appreciated. The apartment's location is ideal - just far enough from the centre of town to avoid much of the noise, but close enough to walk everywhere. The outlook over the beautiful St Patrick's Park gives a feeling of space and freedom not always easy to find in an inner-city apartment.

Hello. I am a mid thirties professional living in Dublin city centre, I have lived abroad and love to travel. My interests include cooking, cinema, reading and spending time with friends. I love having people over for dinner and meeting new people. I also love eating out. Of the places I have visited for pleasure, I especially loved Brazil, Laos and Japan. I love all of Italy and New York City. I love reading anything set in India. My monthly book club is something I really look forward to. I have really enjoyed meeting new people through Airbnb. I am pretty passionate about Dublin, and like to share all the places that I think are special with visitors. Dubliners can be the most friendly people in the world!
