Our family friendly & nicely designed home used to be a bar owned by an opera singer. Lots of history and character! It comfortably fits 5 people and is located in the middle of de Pijp, Amsterdam's nicest area near RAI and the museum district.
We rent out our private home (3 bedrooms) in one of the nicest areas in Amsterdam.
It is perfect for one or two couples with one or two kids, but it easily fits 5 adults too (2 double beds, one single).
It's a ground and second floor corner apartment of 1375 sq. ft (125m2) (Actually I think it's even a bit bigger).
It used to be a bar plus living quarters, after that it was a photo studio, now it's our home.
Because of the store front, the living room has a huge front door and really big windows, lots of light.
We recently created a new bathroom, decent size for Amsterdam standards.
The floor plan:
a big hallway (we call it the garden room) with lots of lights, lots of plants and a round dining table.
Then a den to watch TV (Netflix and cable) and read books.
It has a big kitchen with a huge table, lots of art and photography, an espresso machine, a stove with oven, a dishwasher, and some English cooking books, so you can fix a nice dinner at home, if you don't feel like going out.
You can hook up your iPhone or iPod to our Bose Sounddock if you want to play some music.
We have a washer and drier, but there's also a laundromat across the street for the lazy traveler.
We have two toilets, one downstairs, one in the bathroom upstairs, which also has a bath tub and a rain shower.
The master bedroom has a queen size bed (two new mattresses with a top mattress), a lot of space and a beautiful view.
We live here with our 9 year old son, so one of the bedrooms is a kid's room with a single bed. Obviously an adult could sleep here, but this room is great for one or two kids, lots of lego, playmobil, board games and a playstation 3.
Besides this we have a small guest room with a small two person futon bed. Not the best bed in the world but lots better than some of the beds I encountered traveling with AirBnB.
We totally redid the house ourselves, with little money but great taste, so a lot of the furniture you find here is vintage.
All of the house is double glass (except for the garden room which is a few degrees colder in winter) and there is good central heating through out the entire house.
We think you will feel right at home here!
You can basically use almost everything in our house.
If we are not in Amsterdam you can use our bikes.
Wireless internet and cable TV and Netflix (Apple TV).
Interaction with Guests
We will welcome you personally and we can always be reached by phone. The upstairs neighbors are our best friends and experienced AirBnb hosts too, so
De Pijp (South side of the Amsterdam city center) is a popular and lively neighbourhood, close to the actual city centre. 15 minutes by tram from Central Station and a 7 minute walk to the Museum District, 12 minutes from the famous Leidse Square and 5 minutes from the Albert Cuyp street market.
Close to the famous Heineken beer brewery and there are tons of nice pubs and restaurants close by.
We are a 20 minutes walk from Amsterdam RAI Exhibition and Convention Centre.
We put together a personal map and list of great places to see and do while you are here!
There's trams around the corner Tram 3 and 12 are 2 minutes away (Ceintuurbaan/Ferdinand Bolstraat), Trams 5 and 24 are 6 minutes away (Roelof Hartplein).
Parking is expensive like everywhere in Amsterdam, €4 per hour from 9 till 24. €36 for 24 hours.
A taxi or uber from Schiphol Airport is €40 -€45.
Public transport from Schiphol:
take the Train to Amsterdam Zuid
tram 5 (direction Centraal Station)
get of stop Roelof Hartplein
5 minute walk.
Smoking outside please, but you're on the ground floor, so that's easy.
Because of allergies we prefer no pets.
There's a small boy living here we have lots of toys, which can be played with in a normal way ;)
Furthermore you can basically use anything in our house, as long as you do it in a respectful way, but I guess that's the same anywhere.
My family and I spent a great Christmas in Gijs and Brigitte's home. Their house was a perfect base for us - stylishly decorated and cosy for when we wanted to stay indoors, but also well-situated for exploring Amsterdam as it is very close to numerous tramlines and only ten minutes walk from the Museumplein. The neighbourhood is full of great cafes, restaurants and pubs - I'd definitely recommend staying here is you're looking to sample Amsterdam's best eateries. Gijs, Brigitte and their neighbours made us feel completely at home, and although we were five adults there was more than enough space. This is a great place - we'd definitely stay again.
We had an incredible weekend in Amsterdam and staying at Gijs and Brigitte's was a huge part of this. We were made to feel welcome, given advice, provided breakfast and fully accomdated for. Arriving early and leaving later was no problem. Wonderful home full of character, the lush plants were a particular favourite of ours! Beds were all comfortable, lots of space for 4 people, clean, great facilities, i could go on and on.... Perfect area for us with lots going on and a good walk or quick tram ride into the centre. We cannot thank Gijs and Brigitte enough!
We couldn't have been more pleased with Gijs and Brigitte's house in Amsterdam. It is quirky but really homely with everything you'd need for a home away from home. The main bed was SO comfy! Great night's sleep. Another brilliant perk of staying here is the coffee machine - lovely coffee every morning. The house in a little walk (30 minutes) from the centre, but this was a blessing as it allowed us to explore areas away from the tourist trail and we found some lovely little pubs and bars for proper Dutch beer. Brigitte was there to welcome us and she was very warm and friendly. She left us eggs, bread and cheese for breakfast. Overall, I would 100% reccommend people to stay here, and we'd definitely stay again if/when we return to Amsterdam. Thank you!
Cosy, beautiful flats with all the things in it you may need.
The owners are very friendly and willing to help you out with anything you ask them. They have a home made guide to improve your stay.
They leaved in the flats plenty of things, kitchen staff, some food, drinks, children toys, films... available for us.
The area is great and calm, with charming places to eat and drink. Close to the main museums and 10 minutes away by bike from central station.
I went with my 2 children, 8 and 11, and we spent a wonderful week.
Frankly, Gijs and Brigitte's apartment was the highlight of our trip to Amsterdam! Their home is beautiful, comfortable and in a fantastic neighborhood. Such gracious hosts as well. Perfect!
Hi, we are Brigitte & Gijs,
Brigitte (36) is a fashion designer and art director and has her own design studio, Gijs (38) is co-owner of a film production company and photography agency.
We used to live in the upstairs apartment, so some of the reviews refer to that place, we now live downstairs which is even nicer.
We live here with our 9 year old son Elvis and we like to rent out our place every now and then, when we go on vacation or leave town for the weekend.
We like to keep the price relatively cheap, because we rather have nice people.
We think this house is especially nice for one or two couples, with or without young children.
