Kiloranhouse Cottage is only a few minutes’ walk from the City centre in a leafy Nairobi suburb, but it is so uncharacteristically out of town that one is momentarily transported into the wild, complete with trees and flowers. It is a convenient location for many place events in Nairobi and launching point while in Kenya, to see one of the SEVEN WONDERS OF THE WORLD - game migration in the Mara and other Kenya wildlife and nature treasures .
The COTTAGE, about 100 years old, is a under a forest canopy with a private garden surrounded by a hedge. It has cedar wood floors and ceramic tiles on kitchen top and bathrooms. The shared hot bathtub bathroom is adjacent to a kitchen with a mahogany top central island. Further on is a landing with a toilet on the left. Natural wood railings adorn staircase leading to a Loft bed with own toilet and a lovely view above the greenery.
To the right of landing the living room has doors leading into the garden on the right and two bedrooms on the left. Of the two the master en suite has Jacuzzi while the twin has two single beds.
A door directly opposite twin entrance leads to the private garden which has in addition to the lawn, two mahogany garden settees.
In keeping with the need for quietness, no television set is provided.
The APARTMENT, also as old, is accessed through a cedar wood staircase to a living room with curved ceiling. This leads to cedar wood balcony with a stunning view of the garden. The long table there can be used for dining, work table or for meetings. Silhouetted lights at balcony corners give the place a romantic effect in the evening.
The spacious Prime bedroom as a king bed. It has two windows one of which is a bay with a beautiful view of the garden. The bay can be used as a desk. It is se-contained with toilet and an overhead shower, The second bedroom has two double beds while the third has a single double bed but can also be used as a study. The last two bedrooms share one bathroom and a toilet. The three share kitchen, fridge, living room and balcony.

Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • This little cottage was the perfect place for my two weeks in Nairobi. The location is perfect, right in the heart of hip Killimani, super-safe, close to the city and Yaya shopping centre. I went for a run most mornings and felt very safe walking around the streets.
The cottage itself is beautiful, well decorated and had everything one needs for self catering. The gardens where also manicured to perfection. The hosts and gate security we're also amazing. If I'm ever lucky enough to travel to Nairobi again, I'll do everything I can to stay with Adriel at the Kiloran House Cottage.

  • Charming little cottage in a gated part of a bigger lot. Great place to work and relax, and Adriel was really helpful while giving lodgers plenty of space.

    November 2012
  • Adriel's apartment was outstanding, and he was a wonderful host. I hope to stay here again!

  • I stayed in the Kiloranhouse Cottage for about three weeks while visiting Nairobi on a research trip. It was an excellent place to base myself for the trip - very convenient to get to downtown (though no Matatus because of proximity to State House) and to Yaya Center (many shops, restaurants, and a grocery store). The cottage is very comfortable and quiet (especially by Nairobi standards) and Adriel and his family were terrific hosts. I would strongly recommend Kiloranhouse for both short and long stays. You get all the comfort of the nicer Nairobi hotels, but with a much more personal feel and a much better price.

    June 2012
  • I had a wonderful stay at Kiloran Cottage. The location is terrific - within walking distance of a nice shopping mall and the city center - and the grounds are so peaceful that it's easy to forget you're in Nairobi. I felt safe walking and going for a run around the neighborhood, and there's a great restaurant (Moonflower) at the end of the street. The cottage itself is very clean, spacious, and has all the kitchen equipment you need to make your own meals. Adriel is a thoughtful host who makes an effort to make guests feel comfortable. He helped me find someone who could repair my camera the same day and arranged transportation for me to and from the airport. I can only say wonderful things about the Kiloran House and I look forward to my next visit.
