Here you will find a comfortable room 10-15 minutes from BWI Airport, 5 miles from downtown Baltimore, on the southwest edge of Baltimore city.
Bus lines are within walking distance, and the light rail going to BWI, downtown Baltimore or Hunt Valley is 1 1/2 miles away. If you are driving, on-street parking is readily available.
This room, containing a full-sized bed, desk, end table, dresser with mirror, 27 inch TV , and large closet is on the first floor of a four bedroom house. Hardwood floors are throughout the house.
Linens, which includes one set of sheets for the bed, towel and facecloth are provided.
The spacious kitchen is shared with other guests.
Breakfast is not provided.
However, you will be a few blocks from a shopping center with a large international grocery store, pharmacy, other shops as well as restaurants.
You will have a private bathroom.
The hosts do not live here, although are readily available by phone or email.
It is a good place to stay for a couple of months.
Thanks for the opportunity!
I needed a place to stay in the Baltimore area and this proved to be an excellent and wonderful place to stay. I am just thankful to find a wonderful hostess like Janine!
This is a good place to stay. It is quiet and clean. Janine is an excellent hostess.
This room was perfect for my needs. The setup is very basic but everything was clean and it has everything you need. The individual rooms have their own locks so you feel secure. The common spaces and bathroom is shared with other travelers buy I barely saw them. Great water pressure in the (website hidden) and wifi supplied. Kitchen area and fridge so you can make your own food if you want.
It's more of a blue-collar neighborhood, and some people may not feel comfortable with that but I always felt safe. And it was an easy walk downtown to the convention center and inner harbor area. Janice was always prompt in returning emails and gave me all the info I needed to make my stay comfortable. I thought this place was a fantastic deal.
An older house with character, located on a comfortable block in a rough part of town. The owners do not live on site, but responded quickly to phone and email messages (e.g. provided a bigger towel, transit advice). Room and shared bath were clean and tidy, but a bit careworn. Rate included cable TV and wireless internet in room, as well as use of kitchen. Great value if you have a car but, while convenient to public transit and BWI light rail, walking to and from bus stops and transfer points felt dodgy, particularly after dark.
The place was clean, convenient, and just about 10 minutes away from downtown. They had everything you probably thought you'd need readily accessible to you. Vincent was easily accessible via phone, email, or text.
We stayed at Janine’s house for 2 nights. There are 3 bedrooms in the house which all get rented out, so Janine does not actually live in the house permanently. The house is basic but fine and Janine was quick to respond to emails.
Our main concern was the safety of the area. We felt very unsafe when walking to and from the bus stop. A number of locals warned us that the suburb was very dangerous and some asked us if we were lost as travellers should not be staying in the area. As two young women, we felt very unsafe. One evening, a police car stopped and asked us what we were doing in the area and that there had been an armed robbery every night that week. They ended up escorting us, as well as a gentleman also staying in the house home. They advised us to find somewhere else to stay as soon as possible.
While there is nothing wrong with the house, and the rate is very good, we would not recommend that single women stay there alone.
I stayed for 5 days.
What it has:
1.1975 beige everything from floor to ceiling, including beige paneling! Bathroom & kitchen updated in past decade.
2. good shower, lots of hot water, good washer and dryer
4. Good mattress (in #3, at least)
6. Very worn out towel
7. utensils, pans, coffee maker in kitchen, dish soap
8. very convenient to Bus 35 and Charm City Circulator to get down town, and is only a 20 minute walk to Camden Yards, or Convention Center
9. good wireless internet
10. great price
What it does not have:
1.Janine. (this is not a permanent residence, so only renters are present. Don't expect anyone w. local advice or assistance)
2. a healthy grocery store or nearby restaurants (i.e within 1/2 mile)
3. A grocery store that is open past 8 pm.
4. mice, rates, cockroaches or other bugs
3. a welcoming ambiance that would be conducive to just handing out and relaxing w. a cup of tea.
I would not recommend unaccompanied women to stay at this property or in this neighborhood. Several Baltimore residents in restaurants and pubs downtown were visibly shocked to learn I was staying on Woodyear. The local police stopped three of us staying at the property while we walking back on Pratt (a fairly busy and well lit (email hidden) one night, and INSISTED on giving us a ride 3 blocks to the apartment door. (Three (white) police and 3 of us in one squad car!) Police officer said: " You should not be here. This is probably the most dangerous neighborhood in Baltimore. We had 5 arrests in this general area today. One on Woodyear this afternoon on an outstanding warrant" (Woodyear is about 100 yards long). That said I did not feel unsafe while staying there. (But I'm a naive guy from rural Montana where we don't lock our doors or our cars.) , and I felt no animosity or threat from the locals, I even had some friendly conversations with a few folks sitting on their steps in the evening. I also had an extensive chat at the bus stop with a retired gentleman who bought a place a few blocks away 3 years ago.. His comment to my question of safety was: " last year there were lots of drug dealers and this place was not very safe. It is better this year. And it will be better still next year because those of us who live here are starting to call the police when we see suspicious activity."
Neither my wife nor my grown children would have stayed even one night. Because of the price and the convenience to public transportation and Convention Center, I would consider staying again .....but will check with my new-found retired friend who lives a few blocks away to get his advice.
it seems like you missed the large PriceRite grocery store at Mount Clare Junction shopping center, a block from the house. This is a fullservice clean and well stocked grocery store. There is also a Chinese restaurant at Mount Clare Junction shopping center (mostly carryout).
Do you have any suggestions on we can do to the inside of the house to make it more welcoming, given that we don't live there?
I always enjoy staying at Janine and Victor's house.
The location was good, felt very safe.
