Response from Patricia:

I had suggested to Elaine that the kindest, most compassionate, wise and respectful thing to do would be not to review each other. But she chose not to follow that advice. She is the most difficult guest I have ever had in 33 years. She is passive aggressive, aggressive, ungrateful and is a poor communicator. She is rude and inconsiderate, and was not only to me but to my helpers. One of them asked if she ever smiled. I do not recommend her. She is a person that sees the cup half empty rather than half full. If she was so unhappy here I don't understand why she didn't just ask for a refund and go on rather than harm all of us. Her arrogance was astounding. Until now I have never had to write a negative review.

And as far as the propane goes it was another first in 33 years of being a landlord. While everyone else in San Miguel was dressed in winter attire: ski hat, scarves, down vests and woolen jackets, Elaine and her guest were inside in shorts and barefoot. You can imagine how much gas that took. It caught me off guard and by the time I found out that she had ran out it was a Saturday afternoon and the gas company that I use could not come until Monday. Many people are in and out of my home and they were all equally shocked to see people dressed for the beach in the midst of winter. I never paid for so much propane in my life. It was abusive. Or, Elaine could have said that she was unable to dress in winter gear and that she needed to use a lot of propane and would be willing to pay for at least part of it. If I had a need like that, that is what I would have done.

Elaine was right on the cleaning. My housekeeper was losing her sight and ashamed to admit it. We parted ways peacefully and I have a new helper who is doing a great job.

I have been in service my entire life and apart from that I have been a landlord. No one in my community of 30 plus years would ever agree with Elaine that "She's in it for the money, nothing else." Her judgement of me is fierce. She never asked or wrote to say that she had some needs and wanted to discuss them. She preferred to be unkind.

I have many reviews and most of them positive. Yes, sometimes things go wrong, and especially in Mexico, they can be out of my control. I do the best I can. There are some people, like Elaine, that it doesn't matter what you do right, it will never be enough. They will complain rather than appreciate.

I am deeply saddened to have to write a review like. I never have had to before.
I have also never met anyone like Elaine. The negative energy that she emits was harmful to my team of helpers who had to walk by her a lot. If I had known what kind of person she is, I would have known that I needed to ask her to leave at the beginning. Now I know. When a guest is barefoot and in shorts in the midst of winter on my propane bill while the rest of us are dressed in winter gear it might be a sign that something is off. Or having all of my helpers ask what was wrong with her could have been a sign too, but I missed it. I am sorry I didn't confront her poor behavior at the beginning. That was my mistake and I accept it. Thank you Elaine. You have taught me about a new kind of personality that I have never encountered. I can be nothing but grateful.
