About This Listing
This is a self-contained cottage with a large room, two beds that can be brought together to make a double bed, a bathroom, a kitchen and a balcony with a beautiful view.
Laborie is a peaceful and authentic Caribbean village, if you are looking for discos and shopping mall you will be disappointed, but if you feel like bathing at and walking along a deserted beach, enjoying village life (and a cold beer with a fish meal at one of the local restaurants) or going for a hike in the hills, then you will enjoy a visit to Laborie.
Chalet La Mar was the perfect location for our stay. The cottage provided a comfortable place to sleep (a great breeze!), an amazing porch with a beautiful view, and amenities that included everything we needed to cook small meals. We also enjoyed exploring Laborie - an extremely friendly town!
We met Yves our first day there - both friendly and helpful. He was out of town during the rest of our visit, but he made sure we were all set before leaving and checked on occasionally by a neighbor. We truly enjoyed our stay in Yves' cottage and in Laborie!
This place is in a perfect location. Like everyone else says, the pictures dont do it justice. We found ourselves lounging on the balcony for much longer than we anticipated every morning. Its about 30 minutes to Sufriere, so it's a good base camp for exploring the pitons, getting some beach time, or hiking. There were a few bugs, but not many mosquitoes when we were there. Yves was a great host.
Nice place, spectacular view, peaceful and quiet. 5 minutes away from town by walking. We enjoyed spending time to read and cooking meals with local food. Some groceries in town, don't miss the saturday morning market with fresh fruits and vegetables, and ask Yves to tell you his secret about where to find the best bread on the island, you won't be disapointed! You must know that this is a chalet, a well-equiped cabin, surrounded by trees. You are almost sleeping and living outside, which is perfect if it is what you are looking for. Remind that living in the nature comes with nature realities (wind, insects, etc.). Was worth it all the way!
We had a wonderful stay at Chalet La Mar. Yves was a great host - friendly, knowledgeable, accessible, unobtrusive. The cottage was great - it was cozy with a simple but spacious lay out. You really did have everything you needed. As other reviewers have noted, it was even nicer than the photos make it look. The location was perfect: quiet, with a beautiful view of the ocean, and only a short, albeit steep, walk from town. We saw hummingbirds every day from the balcony and woke up to ocean sounds. It also stayed nice and cool since we were high up and got the best wind. Laborie was a great town, full of friendly people who are always ready to help you or willing to have a conversation. Laborie was a great base for us to explore other parts of the island as well. We used the public buses to get to Soufriere, Anse Chastenet, Gros Piton, the Botanical Gardens / thermal baths, Balenbouche, and Vieux Fort. We hope to have a chance to come back and stay with Yves again.
Everything was PERFECT!!!
The cottage is so cute and romantic, the view on the porch is beautiful and relaxing!
Yves was amazing went out of his way to help us rent a car and call other favors for us he was great and the the place is perfect and in a great location could not recommend this place more!!!
Fantastic chalet in an amazing and very peaceful location, I can't recommend this enough. The chalet is comfortable and has everything you need, and a perfect balcony with a hammock.
The cottage at Chalet La Mar was rustic and lovely - exactly what we were looking for. The view is incredible and we enjoyed reading in the hammock. There were a few bugs but nothing bothersome, and the mosquito netting around the bed did the trick. Wireless internet was an unexpected bonus.
As for the village of Laborie, we found the people to be friendly enough—some were more open and welcoming than others. We enjoyed a lot of excellent food and good beer, and especially enjoyed the fresh fish at Mama Rose's (off the main square). We were glad we didn't rent a car, as the village was accessible on foot and a car would have been more cost and hassle than it was worth.
Yves provided us with everything we needed for a comfortable stay and helped us to make travel and touring arrangements. He was very responsive and an excellent host.

About the Host, Yves
My name is Yves Renard, but you don't really need to know too much about me, more about the place. Laborie is a very quiet and attractive fishing village located in the south of Saint Lucia. It's not the right place if you are looking for casinos and night clubs, but perfect if you want to discover or rediscover Caribbean culture, eat fresh fish in a small village restaurant, enjoy a deserted beach or take a walk in the hills.
