The house is located in the heart of the vibrant Alberta district. Starting 3 blocks away, there are great restaurants (including Podnah's Pit, 2011 restaurant of the year), coffee houses (like Random Order named one of America's Best Pie Spots by Food&Wine), brew pubs, shopping and entertainment. When you need to get downtown, it's only a 15min bike ride to the city center. Frequent-service bus lines (#6,#8,#72,#15) and a Zipcar station are 4 blocks away. (website hidden) street-smart, walkability rating for our house is an amazing 96! It describes our location as a Walker's Paradise.
The room offers second-story views of the neighborhood, including views of a towering, Giant Sequoia. There is a full size bed, built-in closet, reading lamp, mirror and (for the cooler months...) its own thermostat controlled heat. Refinished 100-year old fir floors and an exposed chimney add to the charm of the room. It shares a full bathroom across the hall and a second full bathroom is available on the floor below.
You are welcome to enjoy the common areas of the house including the fully equipped kitchen with storage space available in the refrigerator and shelves--though some guests prefer taking advantage of the delicious food in the neighborhood. A comfortable, covered front porch with a couch and a large, covered, bamboo-wrapped back porch keep the sun and rain at bay. The house also has a dining room with large bay windows and a warm, inviting living room with a wood-burning pellet stove that runs during the heating season.
The house is usually comprised of a mix of short and long-term stay guests. I live in one of the rooms, though I am occasionally away traveling or on rock climbing trips. There are usually good opportunities to interact with other guests in the common areas of the house, but it also easy to find privacy. I've had some wonderful people stay here over the years and look forward to meeting many more.
As a guest you have private storage areas in the kitchen, refrigerator space, use of French-press, coffee maker, or espresso machine (we like coffee here). Also included are the use of the washer and dryer. We have a cleaner who keeps the kitchen, bathrooms, and floors, nice and tidy. The rooms and entire house have free high-speed, wireless internet, as well as a wired connection option in the living room.

I absolutely loved my stay at Shane's. It's a beautiful home. It was clean, comfortable, and convenient. Enjoyed chatting with him and having Maggie the dog around as well. Would definitely go back!
Shane's place is in perfect location near to all happening places in Portland. His home is well organized and neat. We all love his friendly dog Maggie, but get to see him only a day. Wish had more time to play with her. Other guests are pretty good and had good conversations. Recommend his place to anyone looking for a temporary stay.
Staying at Shane's house was an absolute joy! The location was perfect, the room as advertised and very clean. Shane is a great guy, very accommodating and helpful, and his dog Maggie was the sweetest dog I've ever met. I would gladly stay here again and would most definitely recommend.
Great spot in a cool eastside neighborhood. Quiet, cozy and clean. I would go back.
This was my 2nd visit with Shane and I'm glad that I stayed at his house again. My room was everything I needed. Maggie the dog kept me company and greeted me in the mornings; she's so great. Thanks for everything, Shane.
It was an easy and relaxed stay, with the room as advertised and a convenient bathroom right across the hall. Shane was a good host and helpful in finding places to go in the neighborhood. I would recommend to others, Robert
I stayed at Shane's place for three days while travelling to Portland for work and it was perfect. I didn't get a chance to meet Shane, but Jess helped out a great deal and was a great host. The house was extremely clean, and the room was better than expected. Everyone in the house was friendly, and provided a lot of amenities and help. I would certainly recommend staying at Shane's anytime you want to go to Portland. Also - the house is perfectly located just two blocks away from a slew of restaurants and bars, which made things a lot easier for this out of towner.
Great space, great location, and budget price! Shane is a super nice guy, and his home feels very comfortable. Will look him up again for furture Portland visits.
Shanes place was perfect for a my 10 day work trip to Portland. I was barely ever there so a room was enough. It was the second time I booked 'shared accommodations' through air bnb... and I was not disappointed. Cute, small and humble is all I needed. Shane is a great guy and the Kitchen had all I needed to make myself at home!
Great location. Shane's welcoming, but not intrusive. I had everything I needed for a comfortable stay. Other guests were very thoughtful.
