A cozy bedroom with all the essentials and a bit of charm, located in the vibrant and eclectic Alberta Arts neighborhood.
The room offers second-story views of the neighborhood, including views of a towering, Giant Sequoia. There is a full size bed, built-in closet, reading lamp, mirror and (for the cooler months...) its own thermostat controlled heat. Refinished 100-year old fir floors and an exposed chimney add to the charm of the room. It shares a full bathroom across the hall and a second full bathroom is available on the floor below.
You are welcome to enjoy the common areas of the house including the fully equipped kitchen with storage space available in the refrigerator and shelves--though some guests prefer taking advantage of the delicious food in the neighborhood. A comfortable, covered front porch with a couch and a large, covered, bamboo-wrapped back porch keep the sun and rain at bay. The house also has a dining room with large bay windows and a warm, inviting living room with a wood-burning pellet stove that runs during the heating season.
As a guest you have private storage areas in the kitchen, refrigerator space, use of French-press, coffee maker, or espresso machine (we like coffee here). Also included are the use of the washer and dryer. We have a cleaner who keeps the kitchen, bathrooms, and floors, nice and tidy. The rooms and entire house have free high-speed, wireless internet, as well as a wired connection option in the living room.
Interaction with Guests
The house is usually comprised of a mix of short and long-term stay guests. I live in one of the rooms, though I am occasionally away traveling or on rock climbing trips. There are usually good opportunities to interact with other guests in the common areas of the house, but it also easy to find privacy. I've had some wonderful people stay here over the years and look forward to meeting many more.
The house is located in the heart of the vibrant Alberta Arts district. Starting 3 blocks away, there are great restaurants (including Podnah's Pit, 2011 restaurant of the year), coffee houses (like Random Order named one of America's Best Pie Spots by Food&Wine), brew pubs, shopping and entertainment.
When you need to get downtown, it's only a 15min bike ride to the city center. Frequent-service bus lines (#6,#8,#72,#15) and a Zipcar station are 4 blocks away. The WalkScore rating for this house is described as a Walker's Paradise.

I was looking for a place to stay last minute, and Shane's house was perfect. The room and house itself were clean and comfortable. I was only in town for 36 hours and out a lot visiting friends so I never got a chance to touch base with Shane directly, but he was super responsive and welcoming via email/messaging. There were other airbnbers in the house who were respectful and friendly. Would definitely recommend.
A descrição do anuncio é adequada.
Shane was a wonderful host - who went the extra mile to see to it my son had everything he needed during his stay. My son had the trip of a lifetime to Portland to run his first half marathon and his stay with Shane was one of the highlights of his visit to Oregon. Definite thumbs up! Thanks Shane!
Shane was a good host. He greeted me when I arrived and provided me with basic information on the area, along with a recommendation of a good restaurant nearby. The room was as described and generally clean (although a bit dusty behind the door), and towels were provided in the room. The location is a couple blocks from the edge of the Alberta Arts district and close to MLK for easy bus transportation.
I had a wonderful experience at this house in Portland. Shane and his in town host Leigh made sure that my stay was restful. The location was convenient, the room was clean and the bed was comfortable. Thanks!
The room is comfy & clean. Simple yet thoughtful. For example, it has a mirror - useful for those of us who wear contact lenses.
It's close, within walking & short drives, of local coffee shops, eateries, and interesting sights. A good yoga studio - the People's Yoga - is nearby, within 10 mins by car, if I recall correctly. Walking is about 20 mins. & some change maybe.
There are some interesting & cool local shops on NE Alberta nearby, including Salt & Straw (ice cream), Little Big Burger (did not get a chance to eat there), many sights and sounds.
Downtown portland is close by, too.
Shane is a courteous, cool guy. I enjoyed my stay very much. Thanks!
Shane makes everyone feel right at home. The house is lovely and couldn't be in a better area of Portland.
The room was light, clean and airy, plenty of storage, and has its own lock.
Shane makes sure everyone has their own space in the fridge and cupboard, as well as space in the bathroom for toiletries.
This has to be my joint favourite air bnb place I've stayed in the past two years (other fave was my Barcelona pad).
I couldn't more highly recommend staying here during your time in Portland. Not a single complaint.
I have no clue what one of the previous reviewers meant about the bed being on the floor? It is as pictured, quite clearly in a frame.
Shane is friendly and makes time to talk with his guests, and is always at hand to help with any queries. By far my favourite part of my three week stay here was the time I got to spend with Shane's dog Maggie. Such an awesome girl!
Only negative was having to leave at the end of my trip.
Will definately return in 2015!

I love living in Portland. I get to ride my bike around town most days and usually take my amazing frisbee dog, Maggie, along. I usually do a range of sports during the week depending on the time of year--including basketball, soccer, ultimate frisbee, running and cycling.
However, my biggest sports passions are rock climbing and slacklining. I've been climbing for over 20 years and have put up many new climbing routes around Portland over the years. Depending on the time of year, I will have a slackline set up in the backyard. If you've never tried it, it's unlike any other balance sport...basically a single line trampoline that feels impossible at first, but is actually quite manageable after a bit of practice.
I like gardening and have spent the last five years or so transplanting and cultivating trees, shrubs and sedums at the house. There are all sorts of perennial edibles here--cherry, plum, persimmon, fig, currant, blueberry, huckleberry, gogi berry, strawberry, pear, grape, asparagus, kiwi and raspberry.
I lived in Bolivia for a couple of years while I was in the Peace Corps and have traveled to about 30 countries. I like being an adventure traveler and enjoy hosting other travelers and visitors as well.
I bought this house back in 2006 and it was practically unlivable. Then once I decided to replace all the plumbing, it was unlivable for about 3 months. doh! But that was years ago. These days, I continue to work on smallish projects around the house, whether it's shuffling around my bamboo planters, planning a new raised garden bed, building a shed out of recycled materials or adding a utility sink to the laundry room (on the list!).
