I was disappointed by the fact that this "apartment of Mohamad" is actually just a very ordinary 2-3* star hotel. The value for price is good, the staff were quite friendly and the room was clean. But it wasn't the usual Airbnb experience - if I wanted a hotel, I'd have gone to Booking.
This is what I wrote on Tripadvisor:
"I booked this on airbnb.com as 'apartment for 1 or 2 in hamra'. The location of the hotel is okay, within walking distance from hamra, bliss, the seafront etc. I booked something like a week in advance as my first experience on airbnb.com and paid around 170$ for 3 nights. The room they got me, 903, was ok. It was somewhat spacious and provided with a bed, couch, tv, small bathroom, small kitchen, minibar and a small balcony. Air conditioned. The taste of the interior designer is somewhat questionable. The bed was actually very unstable. The side where they had the pillow was almost broken (the mattress kind of fell through the bed) and the other side actually collapsed while I was having sex. I have been able to fix it myself, so no big deal. It's just not very sturdy.
The bathroom needs a complete overhaul. It's small, the toilet is almost inside the shower, the water tap was losing water on the side, the shower was small and uncomfortable and everything got wet while I showered. There is nowhere to hang your towel in the bathroom. The hotel only provided 1 towel, for showering. But no floor mat, no hand towel, no washing towel etc.
I paid everything upfront when booking. Checkin was a bit time consuming (they still had to prepare the room; I arrived later afternoon). Staff is friendly tho. Checkout was done quickly. Overall it's a budget accomodation, but in my opinion, for the same amount of money you can find better, especially when booking in advance. Especially when booking this place alone (just take a single room somewhere else, like grand hotel beirut (I paid 50$ a night when I was there)). I just think it was still expensive for what I got."
Diana Tower is a good deal for this location ! I did not liked the room I initially booked, although it was sunny (on 8th floor) but the bathroom really need to be totally renewed and I was not able to use it, so I upgraded for a two room flat, really better with acceptable bathroom on 4th floor (definitely less sunny). Mohamad was very helpful, he sent a taxi to the airport, he immediately helped me when I asked to change my room, and even found a desk for me in order to allow me to work on my laptop. Internet was working the whole day, a bit slowly, but was reliable. Personal at the reception were very friendly and made the stay very pleasant.
I would describe the place as half-hotel, half-apartment. It's in the Hamra area of town, which was a very authentic experience since it is a bit out of the way from Gemmayze area :)
Mohamad was very responsive. They kept it clean and we had a huge balcony on the 10th floor. Good deal for the money.
Great location, everything you need is nearby. The appartment itself is also quite nice: Quiet and since the AC works well cold enough.
The apartments are a nice central place to stay in Hamra. Lots of room, and great views from the upper floors. Internet was very slow at night but worked well during the rest of the day. Construction and renovations were going on while I stayed in May 2012, but did not affect my stay. Service was a bit lacking, but overall had a great stay. Mostly geared towards Lebanese guests.
Nice place, clean and comfortable, a few steps away from Hamra street (shops, bookstores, exchange shops, restaurants ,cafes).
They take really good care of the guests, make you you have everything you need. A bit limited with the english proficiency of the staff but its manageable
