Serene BR - Smoke and Pet Friendly

Apartment - Private room · Senator St, Brooklyn, NY 11220, United States

The Serene Bedroom is perfect for couples, or a single person. It's a very quiet room, with a lot of sunlight, that comes from 3 big windows. With the blind closed you can relax in complete darkness,
making it very comfortable at any time.

The Space

Every visitor is treated by me the same way that would like to be treated as guest.
I want all my guests to feel at home, away from their home.

Private, very sunny, clean, located next to the living room and very spacious. It has 3 large windows and it gets lots of sun in the afternoon. This room gets dark when the blinds are down (2 layers in each window), so you can sleep like an angel. In this room there is a “full size" bed. There is a flat screen TV. Good heating system in the winter and in the (email hidden), but once you open the windows it gets lots of fresh air. Free Wi-Fi, fresh linens and towels provided.

The apartment is on the second floor without an elevator in the building (16 steps up to the second floor). There are only two apartments in the building. This is a very large 3 bedrooms apartment (for NY standards) with great sunlight and hardwood floors in the bedrooms and living room. In the hallway, kitchen and bathroom has white ceramic tiles. The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking and you are welcome to use it. There is a smaller fridge in the kitchen for the guest(s). The living room and the Serene Bedroom are located by the entrance of the apartment. Kitchen, bathroom and the Peaceful Bedroom are located in the middle of the apartment. The third bedroom, which we call Zen (but never available), is located on the end of the hallway. We have an iron and an ironing board, several hair dryers, there are Q-tips, cotton balls, toothpaste, shower gels and shampoos/conditioner available for use, which will make your life easier if your trip is brief.
In case you cannot use your international cell phone here, you can use the home phone to make local calls or calls within the US; the phone is located in the living room. If you need to make long distance calls you will need a phone calling card that you can buy at any Deli store.

In the heart of Bay Ridge - Brooklyn, very safe family oriented area surrounded by parks. It is perfectly located to everything: restaurants, diners, liquor stores, drugstores, banks, supermarkets (Key Food & C Town), laundromats, walking distance to shopping stores (email hidden) (Century 21, Gap, TJ Max, Modell’s sporting goods, etc.) coffee shops and cinema.
The apartment is located two small blocks from the subway (R train - Bay Ridge station), one station away you caught the express train N and it takes only 35-40 minutes to midtown Manhattan (Times Sq.), 20-25 min to Chinatown, Soho, and the Village. On the N train you can be in the Atlantic Ave station (where the new Barclays Center is located) in 10 minutes and over there you will find several train lines to transfer to. Please be aware these timings are possible during the day, non-rush hours or late at night (after 1AM), the subway/bus system operates 24/7.
If you need to take a taxi back home, it is about:
- $25 from LES (plus tip, usually we give 15%)
- $35 from Times Sq. (plus tip)
- $40 from upper east/west side (plus tip)
We are located very close to JFK, Newark, and LaGuardia airports (20-25 min car ride, around $35-40 from JFK & LG, from Newark airport, you will be charged extra for the tolls & the taxi is $60).

All renters are required to put down a security deposit, $150 and you do it through the airbnb site. There is also a cleaning fee $20 per week/per person ($10 per person if you stay only two days), this will be paid to me in cash upon arrival (I would do it thru airbnb, but they take a percentage out of it and I don't want to add that on, making it more expensive for you). If you stay for than 8 days, I will change your sheets and towels for clean ones and your bedroom will be vacuumed and cleaned weekly.
You'll be sharing the apartment with a mature and considerate female roommate ( and two friendly kitties that you rarely see, and one small friendly dog...therefore you must like pets and you are not allergic to them), they sleep with us and you can keep your bedroom door closed if you don’t want the pets to visit you. We are smokers, therefore you can smoke too. If you don't smoke, it will not bother you, because the windows are always opened/ashtrays are always empty/home is always clean and if you keep your bedroom door closed you will not smell it because we are located in different parts in the apartment (we had several non-smoker guests and our smoking was never an issue for them).. Plus we will not smoke in front of you if it bothers you. This apartment is big and each room is located in separated areas of it. I work Monday to Friday from 8am to 5pm. This is a LGBT friendly household. I'm Brazilian but I have been living in NYC for more than 20 years, I speak fluently English, Portuguese, Japanese and Spanish (I understand Italian as well). I have a great knowledge of the city and if you are a foreign I will help you to go wherever you want to. A clean home is very important to me, and due to the presence of the pets, I make sure I keep our home very neat.

If you have a small & friendly, trained dog or cat that you would like to bring with you we are open for the possibility (pets are vaccinated and spayed/neutered). There is no charge for your pet.

  • after a lot of searches I was lucky enough to come across airbnb which made my search much easier, and i started to look for a place which would be perfect for me as I was coming to take a course in Manhattan and I wanted to stay in Brooklyn, the most important thing to me was a safe and secure neighborhood and a place close to the public transport, I also care about the company because being a way from my family in a place where I had known nobody was a bit stressful..the moment i saw Serene I knew that it's the place where I want to comeback every day after a long exhausting days of studying,I just felt it was meant to be for me .. At first my communications started with Adriana- Malu's friend as she was taking care of the renting with Malu and she was really very informative and supportive.. after about a month i started talking with Malu and she was really super nice and caring person I could tell from the detailed specific replies to my answers and emails. For the single female travelers I would highly recommend Serene specially if you are traveling alone and you or your family are concerned .. HERE I honestly feel like I am home. The house and the room are very clean and the bed is super comfy I actually feel blessed every morning when I wake up after a good night sleep with no back pain or anything, and i really like that everything is included so i don't have to worry about buying soap or towels or cooking pans or anything just my own personal stuff, and she also helped me a lot with the subway system and getting around new york .Malu even cooked for me and it was really delicious and nice of her. Malu cleans my room and changes the bed sheets and provides new towels every weekend - its like a 5 starts luxurious hotel plus you feel like HOME. Malu is super sweet she is very welcoming and she has been like a mother figure and a friend. The pets are really quite and friendly.. the neighborhood is nice , quite and very safe,i was coming back home late sometimes even at 4 Am and I never had any incidents and always felt safe. It is a quite arabic neighborhood so when you walk in the street you will sometimes feel like you are in the middle east .
I would definitely come back stay in Serene again if i were to New York and I would recommend it to anybody who really wants to have a great experience in New York .

  • I was in town on business and needed a place that was close to my business. I chose this place on proximity alone. But I got a lot more than I had hoped for. The place is very clean and tidy and Malu is an excellent host. The apartment is exactly as it is pictured on the website, if not better. Malu was there to receive me at arrival. Introduced me to my room and her pets. I got fresh linens and quick tour of the place.

Although I'm a Brooklynite and knew where everything was, Malu was more than eager to help me with anything I may need.

My fellow AirBNB residents were very friendly as well. But most importantly Malu's pets were absolute angels.

I look forward to spending more time at Malu's place in the future.

  • Well I have to say that this was a truly amazing experience for me staying at somebody else's home. Adriana is an amazing host. I was very comfortable and felt like home. She was as extremely friendly and considered. She guided me through my stay in the NYC, providing me with daily tips to go around the city for shopping, places to visit and how to get their in the best economical way. She would always ask you for any assistance and help you might need. She even started doing that before I even arrived to the states (what A Host ).She even offered help to buy me things that I was not able to find.

The apartment was absolutely amazing. I found it as described in her listing profile. My room and the rest of the apartment were always clean and tidy. The apartment is equipped with anything that you might need, even a "foot massager" after a long stressful day of walking around the city. The whole apartment was always super clean. Things like using the bathroom and taking a shower, watching TV, using the kitchen and having plenty of space in the dedicated fridge was very accommodating. Even with having another guest staying at the apartment (using the other room Adriana rents out) was perfectly coordinated and managed by her in a very smooth way. I felt like I have rented the whole apartment and not just a room. Adriana as a host was always there when you needed her help and assistance. The special coffee in the morning was always a good start for the day. The pets were just amazing. I really enjoyed them as much as she did. The Location is just perfect. very friendly and safe neighborhood. the apartment's location is almost overwhelmed with grocery stores, deli's, pharmacies restaurants and shopping stores around.

All in all, this is a very nice place to stay if you ever plan to visit NYC and need to stay in Brooklyn. I highly recommend the place. I will definitely consider her place in my future visit to the US. I am planning for a family trip to the NYC next year and I will definitely have Adriana as my Number one's choice.

  • It was an amazing first experience traveling with Airbnb! I felt in love with my room and entire apartment that is beautifully decorated. It's really cozy and from the first second you feel like home. The room is very nice, for one person it's plenty of space. Adriana was always here to help and provide you with every kind of information you'll need. If you are lucky you might go shopping with her and she will help you to find amazing and not so pricey clothes. She will become your friend. If you would like to be left alone Adriana will do this, or chat with you if you'll want to. Her roommate Malu is also amazing and very funny, she will tell you interesting stories about every kind of topic! Pets are well trained and really smart, they will always be at the door greeting you and never be too noisy or dirty, because Adriana cares a lot about them, as about her guests comfort. Bay Ridge area is super safe and you have plently of things to do, even without visiting Manhattan. You won't regret staying here! PS: future guests, please, treat ginger kitty called Sunny well, she is the sweetest cat in the world!

Adriana and Malu were extremely friendly and helpful right from the get go, offering an endless supply of conversations, tips, chocolates and coffee! The apartment is very close to the R line, which is very convenient for getting around. The room was always kept very clean and the bed super comfortable. I thoroughly recommend staying here, they are the best hosts!

  • Bay Ridge, a great community, quiet, and comfortable to walk to and from trains and restaurants at all hours. The closeby R train takes you to Manhatten or downtown Brooklyn or several transfer stations - so easy!
Right on the corner from your front door is a bus that takes you Century 21 and lots of shopping!
The room is great, radio, tv, 3 windows, storage, and a comfortable bed!
Adrianna is a great source for local events and activities.
    Highly recommend the place.
