12 minute drive to Dartmouth, this 140 acre piece of land proves itself a bastion of tranquility. very very private. vaulted ceilings, great light, one bed room (plus a loft with a futon, couch and comfy sleeping) allows up to 6 to sleep rather soundly. Although due to only one full bath 4 or less is optimal. a gorgeous pond perfect for swimming and lounging about watching nature in all its glory. magical trails to breath taking scenic vistas... it is all yours!!!
kid friendly, no TV (but there is a movie system if desperate). piano, trampoline, as well as other fun stuff.
truly a stunning location.
You need to see it to believe it. Lots of other great reviews on here so I won't be redundant... but we had a great time and the house is awesome.
My friend and I stayed here for three nights in early October while attending our Tuck reunion and had the best time. The house was simply fantastic. It's in a very private spot that was beautiful with the fall colors. The ride to Dartmouth is only about 15 minutes. We loved the trampoline and the outdoor area. There are trails where you can walk through the woods and to a very scenic vista.
Inside there is one traditional bedroom and then a sleeping loft which my friend used. The steps up are a bit narrow and there's no railing, so it's best for someone young and confident with heights. The kitchen has everything you need, and the bathroom was really nice. I loved the rain shower.
Mason was great and answered all of my questions promptly while I was making a decision on where to stay. Overall we had a fantastic time!
This is truly a wondrous sanctuary! In the middle of nature, with plenty trails to walk with nice views. Close to Hanover, if you want to see the Dartmouth campus. We were there during the fall foliage, which was amazing!
Host is great and very responsive. He has built a great place. Our daughter loved the trampoline, the pond, the wild animals and the giant swing in the living room!
This was a real find for us. It is on the top of a hill, out there and submerged in nature, but also close for our visit to Dartmouth. Don't miss a swim in the pond. There is a really nice loft but it doesn't have a railing which made us nervous with two toddlers who always wanted to go up there. Would have liked to stay longer.
For the first time after years of travel I was disappointed to wake up in my own bed.
"Home on the Hill" is a magical place and just what this Silicon Valley weary family needed. Off the grid and wonderfully removed from it all - Home on the Hill is a place to heal and rejuvenate.
I grew up across the river in Lyme and we return for a lengthy stay every other summer. We enjoy an old fashioned summer of long days by the family pond fishing and kayaking. This year we planned a month long stay and decided to give ourselves space from local family.
It was wonderful - I woke with the sun streaming in each morning and absolute peace and quiet, save for birds and various delightful insects. We saw ground hogs, fox, skunks and deer on a regular basis.
Our time with family was enhanced by the opportunity to relax and rejuvenate with our family of 4 each morning before joining everyone for the day.
Home on the Hill was the perfect place to host a couple family dinners and everyone, including my 87 year old mother enjoyed the nice walk to view the amazing mountain vistas.
My 12 yo son was not happy when he heard we were staying a town away from his cousins. However, when we pulled up that first night, just before dark, and he saw the amazing landscape surrounded by trees with a swimming pond and other delights, he was won over. My children are 9 and 12 and very athletic - Home on the Hill has a few aspects that could be worrisome for families with very young children. The sleeping loft is open to the great room below with no railing. We used some rope to fashion a temporary barrier in case one of the kids woke up at night and got disoriented in the new space. The stairs to the loft are narrow and care is needed to go up and down safely. With a few strict safety rules we had no problems.
We felt comfortable with the arrangement but some family members who visited expressed concern and felt it was worth mentioning to prospective renters.
Overall our stay was exactly what we needed. It even inspired serious talks about a possible move for our family to a more rural less stressful environment. My daughter who hates change decided that we might be able to move if we can find a similar place that "is private and in the middle of nature."
The home on the hill exceeded expectations. The location is beautiful and the house is lovely and welcoming. Mason will make sure you know all the things there is to know about the house and I am sure that you will fall in love with the house, the location and the beautiful fire place!
Ah-maz-ing retreat! We highly recommend you do not stay here, because we want to keep it all for ourselves! great great great vibes
Beautiful place, beautiful countryside, it really is a sancturary!
