Great host! Responded nearly immediately after sending in the inquiry. Note that I sent in an inquiry the night BEFORE going to New York. Blair was a very understanding and kind host and always responded quickly. We were able to book this room just hours before arriving to the apartment.
Everything was perfect, Blair is an amazing person and she was there everytime I needed. I love you Blair!!!
The location was fantastic and modern, centrally located. Blair was so great to deal with and was very responsive. We had to change and cancel our reservation during the holiday because the previous home was dirty and with rats, so in a mad panic I tried to find somewhere else in a similar position. Blair has responded to my request immediately and was very accommodating. We loved the personal touches with local recommendations. I highly recommend staying here.
The place was comfortable and perfect for our needs. It was clean and bright. I will definitely use Airbnb again and recommend it to my friends when they visit the city.
Even though Blair was not present when I moved in, she had someone present to let me in and take the keys, (even help with bags if needed).
The apartment was clean, had all the amenities needed (AC, it was incredibly hot in NYC that month), nice kitchen (granite with new appliances) although missing a stove (who bakes in NYC?). Although a bit on the small side for the price and location, it was comfortable for the duration of the stay.
Blair was responsive and friendly, although absent, and both the move-in and the move-out went very smoothly. I would recommend her to others, and would stay at her apartment again.
It was very easy communicating with Blair and she was extremely accommodating in organising an electric kettle which was there when I checked in. The apartment is not huge and perhaps as a larger than life chap it was a tad on the small side for my 12 day stay. It's situated about a 15 minute walk from the Empire State so very handy for central midtown. There were plenty of places to eat nearby and a couple of grocery stores also within reach.
My husband and I were staying at another apartment of Blair's and moved to this one for our last night. Blair was helpful in ensuring that our move was smooth. Again, this apartment was clean and fitted with everything we needed. For one night, it was most convenient. Thanks again Blair!
Blair's apartment was perfect--a great combination of charming, simple, cozy and convenient. I had no problems during my entire month stay, but if I did, Blair had made sure to leave her personal phone number for me to call/text with any concerns. Also, the apartment was fully furnished and the bathroom, kitchen and floors were completely brand new. The apartment itself is in a very quiet and cute building, yet very accessible to the hustle and bustle of 2nd Ave. I recommend this place to anyone staying in NYC, especially if working at NYU medical center-- 1 block away!
Worst experience. Potential health hazard (mold). Apathetic and unresponsive host and reservation company (Airbnb).
Upon my arrival to this apartment on 9/26/12, I noticed a strong smell of mold, which I an extremely allergic to. When I contacted Blair to inform her of the smell and express my concerns, she only responded that she had never been told about it before.
Since I had nowhere else to stay, I remained at the apartment the night I arrived. In order to have a little fresh air, I slept in the living room, by an open window, on the uncomfortable futon sofa.
The next morning (9/27/12) I could barely breathe through my nose and my chest felt tight. Despite having the window open all night, the apartment still smelled of mold, the source of which could have been anywhere in the apartment, including under or behind the dishwasher, which leaked when I tested it. The source could have also been something behind or under the kitchen cabinets or refrigerator, one of the filthy air vents (which I took a picture of, but don’t have the option of posting here), the air conditioner, or something behind the walls, floor, or ceiling.
On the morning of 9/27/12, I contacted Blair to tell her about the smell of mold again, the leaky dishwasher, and that I would likely have to find other accommodations due to the possible presence of mold. In response, Blair again stated that no one had mentioned the moldy smell before. When I asked her if any of her other apartments were available for use, she stated that they weren’t. At no time during our conversations did Blair attempt to remedy the situation or “travel issues,” as required by the Guest Refund Policy Terms.
In the afternoon of 9/27/12, I contacted Blair again and informed her that, at the advice of my doctor, whom I visited that day, I had found other accommodations (at a significantly higher cost). I asked Blair if I would be charged for the nights not stayed at the apartment. In response, she stated that I had already been charged and that it would be up to Airbnb if I would receive a refund (which is not true since Airbnb hosts can change reservation dates to allow for refunds).
Since my unpleasant stay, I have communicated with Blair and Airbnb numerous times in an attempt to receive a refund due to the conditions in the apartment (i.e. the smell of mold, the dirty vents, and the leaking dishwasher), which according to Airbnb’s Guest Refund Policy Terms, would justify a change to my reservation and a refund. However, they both refuse to issue a refund, even though they appear to be in violation of their own Guest Refund Policy Terms, which is supposed to protect guests’ health and rights.
I guess that keeping the relatively small amount of money gained from my reservation is more important to Airbnb/Blair than a guest’s health.
